Chapter 33: My Favorite Character’s Buff

“A horde of ogres, huh… They look really disgusting in person…”

We were on top of a hill a little away from Sulfur City. We could see the entire Tagonia Plain from here. Right now, this plain was completely covered by swarms of ogres. 

“Ike-sama, could you please reconsider your decision? It’s far too dangerous…”

Alisa tried to stop me. She looked somewhat flustered. The reason why ogres were feared in this world was simple. Ogres were extremely brutal by nature. Ogres often became the target for extermination in the game’s quest and the villages and towns that became the victim of ogres were always in complete shambles. In fact, not just destroyed. The ogres would toy with the villagers first before killing them afterward. Ogres were brutal and vile indeed. Many innocent victims must had fallen to the hands of ogres for Alisa to be this anxious. It seemed the ogres I knew from the original game was as ferocious as the ogres in this world. 

“Don’t worry. I only fight battles I’m sure I can win.”

“By the way… Kamura-san, do you have an estimate of how many ogres there are?”

Alisa asked. 

“The reports said there are 500 of them, give or take.”

“500?! I had never heard a horde of 500 ogres before! This situation is definitely out of the ordinary! Something is wrong here! Ike-sama, are you really sure you can win?!”

“I told you already… I only fight battles I’m sure I can win.”

I said again, a little bit irritated at the Saintess’ repetitive question. 

“Ike-sama, as your wife, I will support you to the best of my ability…! Those disgusting ogres dare to invade my husband’s territory… They even interrupted our precious time together! I will never forgive them…”

Luna muttered curses under her breath. Even through the glasses, I could see her eyes losing their usual shine. Her eyes looked a bit clouded. Hmm… But she still looked cute!

“As my wife, huh… Then, shall we go together?”

“-?! Ple-Please don’t say that part again! Hearing you emphasize that part multiple times is making me embarrassed!” 

Luna blushed, looking flustered. I was only saying that without thinking much, but seeing Luna getting so flustered and shy like this really soothed my heart. 

“…Understood. At least, let me offer you my assistance.”

Alisa said before she turned to face Lancelot.

“Lancelot, gather the knights and protect the citizens of Sulfur from the ogres. Not a single innocent citizen shall fall into the hand of the ogres.”

“Understood, Saintess-sama. Ike-dono, if you think the ogres are too much for you to handle, please retreat immediately. We will make an exit route for you.”

“Heh. You guys are such a worrywart.”

I wondered why Lancelot would say something unnecessarily cool like that. I should add that to the list of things I wanted to say someday. 

“Ike-sama, this Kamura will help Lancelot-sama in guiding the citizens to safety. I wish you the best of luck.”

With that, Kamura and Lancelot returned to the city. The enemies themselves were easy to defeat, but something could go wrong in our absence. It was best to have someone staying in the city indeed.

Well, let’s focus on my enemy for now. 

“I will end this in an instant.”

I took out the Staff of the Dragon Star and started channeling my magic power to cast a magic circle. Since these people were worrying about my safety, I better end this fight quickly. 

“A-At least, allow me to give you a buff. Enchant.”

Alisa cast a buff on me. ‘Enchant’ was a buff skill that increased one’s critical hit rate. However, this buff wasn’t really useful to me. Due to my overwhelming firepower, I could easily destroy the ogres without getting critical hits. 

“I-I will support Ike-sama too..! Quick!”

“U-UWOHHHHH?!?! Luna giving me support too?!”

A buff from my most favorite character! I couldn’t stop myself from shouting. ‘Quick’ increased one’s casting speed, movement and attack speed. Basically, she was hoping I could finish this faster so we could get back to our lovey dovey time again!

In that case… I had to finish this battle quickly! Ah, right. I should try the new skill I had been practicing in my personal time in this opportunity. 

“Auto Search.”

I focused my target on the ogres only. From my view, the ogres were locked with red markers. 

“Drop dead.”

I sneered like the villain I was as I unleashed my magic attack. The spells rained down, almost like rain of missiles. 

“Wha-What…?! To-Total annihilation? That many ogres… In an instant?!”

The Tagonia Plain was filled with corpses of ogres. Well, of course. In the original Fortune Lover game, ogres were monsters that could be easily defeated in one blow if the hero had Staff of the Dragon Star equipped. Considering Ike Hanbulg’s talent in magic and all the training I had done, this kind of result was to be expected. Not to mention, I had received my favorite character’s buff. There was nothing that could top that. I could easily obliterate anything in my way, even if my opponent were a god. Besides… There was the buff from the Saintess too. Taking down a horde of ogres was not a big deal for me. 

“Alright. All done. Let’s go back.”

Smiling, I gently took Luna’s hand and turned my back on the Tagonia Plain.
