Chapter 3: I Will Never Forgive Anyone Who Dares to Insult My Favorite Character

“Uooooh!! Luna!! I’m back!!”

I ran back to my room as fast as I could. I was having trouble breathing, but as long as I could get back to her side even a second faster, I didn’t mind the pain.

“Ike-sama… Welcome back!”

Luna jumped into my arms once again. Oufu… This was happiness. This was the best feeling ever. However, if she jumped a bit too energetically, she might end up breaking her glasses.

“Pardon the intrusion, Ike-sama… Oh my? Who is this?”

“You… Why are you here?”

This was Euclid, a maid in the service of Ike’s older brother, Raiza.

“I’m just running an errand. Raiza-sama asked me to deliver something to Ike-sama.”

In Fortune Lover, Ike was bullied by his older brother, Raiza. Whether his older brother’s bullying contributed to the reason for this or not, but Euclid also sometimes mocked Ike. “Nice to meet you. I’m Luna Olhein, Ike-sama’s fiancée.”

Euclid blatantly sneered at Luna.

“Euclid, are you mocking me?”

As Luna’s fiancé, insulting her was tantamount to insulting me. She was my to-be wife and I was her to-be husband after all.

“Oh my? Did I say something bad about you, Ike-sama?”

Euclid smirked, clearly mocking me. She was being pretty bold, even though Euclid was a maid. As the servant of this house, she should have known that I, the master, had a higher standing than her.

“Oi, don’t get cocky.”

“Don’t get cocky? Oh my, you’re pretty energetic today. Or perhaps… You’re trying to make me laugh? My, Ike-sama is kind even to commoners.”

“If that’s the kind of attitude you choose to take, then let me give you something to consider. For instance… I wonder who’s been embezzling the Hanbulg family budget for years?”

“….And do you have any evidence? Of course not. You’re just bluffing.”

“Is that so? We will see if I’m just bluffing or not. But, that’s not all, right? Collaborating with the head butler to abuse your authority and only employing the people that will follow your orders…”

“H-How did you-?! Don’t tell me.. The head butler told Ike-sama… Did he betray me?! Impossible! He was supposed to be deeply in love with me…!”

Euclid’s provocative attitude suddenly changed. She looked clearly flustered as she held her head with both hands like a distressed heroine. 

“Do you understand now? That I’ve been letting you swim freely?”

“M-My apologies! I was wrong!”

“That being said, although you may be useless, I can use useless people like you to lure out other useless people…”

“Me? Useless?!”

“Yeah, of course. You are useless. The most useless person ever who thinks you’re worth shit even though you’re worth nothing. Just so you know, I will never forgive you. Until now, I’ve let your attitude slide, but anyone who dares to insult my wife will suffer, so much so that they wish they’d be dead instead.”

Pretty sure I must’ve looked like the worst villain ever. It felt so darn good though. This was the result of reading all the background story and character background provided by the game company. Still, I didn’t expect my useless knowledge about the game would be proven to be useful in this way.

“Now, get the hell out of here.”

“What a coward! You only dare to act like this just because Raiza-sama is away! I will make sure you regret this!”

Euclid hurled before she left the room. 

Don’t underestimate me. Make me regret it? Heh. I will make YOU regret it. Be prepared to taste the consequences for disrespecting Luna.

“Ike-sama, if I continue to fall even more in love with you, I…”

“Hm? Did you say something?”

“N-No. It’s nothing.”

Luna quickly adjusted her glasses. Due to the reflection on the lenses, I couldn’t quite see her expression. I was so consumed with fury to punish Euclid that I had failed to hear Luna’s words… What a horrible mistake!

However, by peeking through the gap in her glasses, I realized Luna’s cheeks seemed to be a bit flushed. Could it be?!

“Luna! I’m sorry, did I push you too hard when you’re not feeling well?!”

“Huh? Uh? No?!”

I placed my hand on Luna’s forehead and just as I feared…

“I couldn’t believe I failed to notice how high your fever is… We need to get you back to your room, no, use my bed for now! Getting you some rest is our top priority!”

Darn it! She must be suffering from a cold and yet, she didn’t show any sign of sickness whatsoever!

Ah, Luna, you’re so kind…

“U-Umm… I’m afraid this will only make my temperature rise even higher…”

Luna seemed to be muttering something. I failed to hear it again but I didn’t want her to exert more energy than necessary, hence why I didn’t ask her to repeat it again. 

It’s fine. I understand. You must be feeling sick, right?

And so, I spent the whole night nursing Luna back to health.
