Chapter 29: Just Like a Newlyweds

“Ike-sama, we’ve been expecting your arrival. Once again, congratulations on becoming the new lord of Sulfur. It is an honor to be able to congratulate Ike-sama for this occasion.”

Three days later, I finally arrived in the biggest town of Kaldi region, Sulfur. Together with Luna and Melcott, the three of us were standing in front of a mansion that had been graciously bestowed upon me by the King. The paperwork to make me become a legal lord of the Kardi region had been completed too. 

Kardi region was a place surrounded by a large volcanic zone. The scent of sulfur could be smelled in the air. Indeed. This was the perfect place for hot springs. Right… This was the main reason why I had asked for this region. For hot springs!

Though I had been reincarnated into another world in a new body, but I still couldn’t forget my roots as a Japanese person. I wanted to soak in a hot bath!

“Allow me to introduce myself. I am Kamura. I will serve as Ike-sama’s assistant along with the maid, Gal. I look forward to serving you, Ike-sama.”

In front of me stood Kamura, a man in his 40s and a young maid with short red hair who looked to be in her late teens. Both of them were bowing their heads to me.

“I’m Gal~ Nice to meet you! Feel free to ask me for anything you need! I look forward to serving you too~”

In contrast to Kamura’s clear and deep voice, Gal looked more nonchalant. Despite their opposite way of speaking, both of them seemed to be able to work well together, almost like an old married couple. 

“Ike-sama, I will go with Gal-san to check the mansion. Please excuse me.”

“I see. Sorry for the trouble, Melcott. Gal too, I’m sure I will be asking you to help me a lot in the future. We may burden you with our request, but I hope we can work well together.”

“Ye-Yes..! Roger that!~ Now then… Melcott-sama~ If you will follow me this way…”

And so, Melcott and Gal then went into the mansion first. Kamura actually had been acting as the acting lord of Sulfur until now. As a home to many dangerous monsters, this area required a considerable amount of effort and money to maintain the public safety.

I plan to attract a lot of guests into this inn and increase the flow of tourists to this town so every resident of SUlfur can enjoy a prosperous life.”

“Wha-What….?! Did you just say you’re going to turn this magnificent mansion into an inn?! Did I hear that correctly?! I-I never heard of this before!”

“So what if it’s magnificent? I asked the king for this area solely for that intention.”

“U-Unbelievable…! I never heard of any lord that had done something like this before…! Furthermore… For the sake of the people of SUlfur?! You’ve just become our lord today, so you shouldn’t have any personal attachment to us yet, so why…..”

“Now, now. Don’t get me wrong. If this city becomes prosperous, the people of Sulfur will naturally become happier. If they are happy, their spending will naturally increase as well. If the spending of the people increases, that means my tax revenue will rise as well and when the tax revenue increases… You understand what’s next without me telling you, right? I’m just preparing all the necessary requirements to receive more money in the future.”

“I-I didn’t realize you’ve thought everything so thoroughly like this..! I apologize for my earlier assumptions! I am deeply impressed by your potential as our lord…! Please rest assured, I swear I will serve you with the utmost sincerity…!”

Kamura bowed deeply, showing great enthusiasm. Yes, there was something else I had to mention before I forgot.

“Ah, right. Kamura, you don’t need to be so formal with me. Just speak casually with me. Please tell Gal the same as well.”

“Huh?”

Kamura was stupefied. Did I say something weird…?

Kamura insisted, but I couldn’t accept his reasoning.

“Kamura, we are going to be working together from now on. I don’t want to act all high and mighty just because I’m your superior. Kamura, we both will have to work together to improve the quality of life here.”

I had learned my lesson from working at a black company. “What…! I understand! I will certainly do my utmost best to serve you, Ike-sama! I, Kamura, will dedicate myself to my duties even more from now on!”

“No,no, not for me. You should work for the sake of the people of Kardi, not for me.”

“I never expected a noble would care so much about us commoners…! To be so considerate of the common people at your age… There’s not a hint of arrogance in yourself…!!”

Ah, nevermind. It seemed our conversation was going nowhere. 

“Ah, if only Ike-sama’s compassion to his people could be directed only to me..! Of course, I know your compassion is wasted on me, but… No, no, that’s part of Ike-sama’s good points as well…! Ahhh! How lovely! What a wonderful person you are!”

Luna started speaking at a rapid speed. Her cheeks were flushed, she looked immensely happy. 

“Anyway, can you show me around first? I really want to see the bathhouse.”

“Understood. This Kamura will guide you around.”

I urged Kamura to guide us around the mansion. He bowed grandiosity to us before letting us into the magnificent mansion. On our way to the bathhouse, we took a brief look at each room. It was important to check on everything, even if it was just a glance. 

We were in the middle of the tour when Luna murmured. 

“It feels like we’re newlyweds when we’re looking around the house like this.”

Newlyweds! Indeed…! We really felt like a newlywed! We looked exactly like a newlywed looking around for a new home! Ahh, I started to feel nervous now that I realized we were acting like newlyweds! 

My heart was pounding excitedly when we finally arrived at our destination.

“Thank you for waiting. Here’s the hot spring that Ike-sama has been eager to look at.”

“Finally we’re here.”

The entrance to the bathhouse was divided by red and blue curtains. Since we were only going to tour the place instead of dipping into the hot spring, all three of us went through the blue curtain. Upon opening the door to the bathhouse… We were revealed to the sight of a magnificent open-air bath. 

“Wonderful!! This is it!! This is the hot spring I’ve been looking for!”

Although the hot spring was divided in half to separate between men and women, but the hot spring was spacious enough.

“This bathhouse is the thing Ike-sama is so eager to see? For me, the water has a strange smell to it, but… Since this is something Ike-sama likes, I’m sure I will come to like it too.”

Luna murmured as her glasses started to fog up. Ah, it was truly precious to see she was trying to like the same thing as me… Alright. All I needed to do was attract tourists to his hot spring facility—or to be precise, the hot spring inn I was planning to create. 

It would be a waste to use this hot spring only for myself and Luna. I wanted to invite the King, the Saintess, and other nobles so they would drop their money here. That would be perfect… Kukuku…! I shall use everything at my disposal to squeeze their money dry!

With that, Gal and Melcott entered the bath area.

“Ike-sama, the said guest is the Saintess herself.”

Melcott said to me, but… I couldn’t help it. I hated her. I hated seeing her.

I slowly got up from my seat.
