Chapter 24: I’d Rather Flirt With My Favorite Rather Than Receiving a Praise

“I’m sorry, Luna. I’m back now.”

Stacking layers of body enhancement spells, I raced back to Comet Villageーto Luna.

“Ike-sama… I’m so glad you’re alright.”

“…Did I make you worry?”

I asked and Luna puffed her cheeks a bit and she said…

“Well… It’d be a life if I said I wasn’t worried…”

Ah, even though she was sulking, Luna was still as adorable as usual. 

“Sorry about that, Luna.”

I pulled her close, hugging her.

“No, it’s fine. I was just sulking a bit.”

Luna’s eyes seemed to be melting in affection. She was so adorable. I could keep watching her forever. 

“Excuse me, I’m sorry for interrupting your fun.”

“If you’re truly sorry… Can’t you be a little considerate instead?”

“Ike-sama, don’t you think you’re being a bit too cold to me sometimes?”

“Ah, of course not. No sane man would be cold to Saint-sama.”

“Is that so…”

Alisa gave me a side-eye before she put on a deliberately sad face as she muttered. 

“Well, I suppose it’s fine.”

I actually wanted to savor my precious time with Luna a little longer. Well, even though Alisa might become our enemy one day, but since we were on the same side for now, there was no need for me to be hostile to her.

Alisa was staring at something behind me. Following her gaze, I could see the villagers coming our way.

The residents of Comet Village started praising me. While I was happy about their praise, but the problem still remained. The Black Dragon had wrecked their village. They still needed to reconstruct their village. 

“Madam Luna is wonderful too!”

Someone actually recognized Luna’s merit?!

I turned my head toward the source of the voice and there, I could see the village women talking among themselves.

“I know, right? She’s so precious.”

“The rumors say she’s cursed, but I think the rumors are wrong! Absolutely wrong!”

“True, true. She’s so beautiful, almost ethereal even.”

Ahh, how wonderful. I didn’t expect I would find a comrade that could recognize Luna’s beauty. This was the happiest moment of the day. The following conversation didn’t matter to me. I couldn’t care less about anything that didn’t involve praising Luna. 

“But still, I can’t believe he actually defeated the Black Dragon.”

“Indeed. We’re truly blessed with a great bargain that we could witness this miracle with our own eyes…”

“Once I atone for my sins, I want to work under Ike-sama.”

Why were the bandits praising me too? Well, I wouldn’t mind if they really want to work under me though. The more workforce we had, the better. 

“I knew it. Ike-sama is so wonderful indeed.♡”

Luna praised me too. Nothing could win against her sweet praise. 

“It’s only because you’re here with me, Luna.”

Luna was my reason for living. I would do anything for the sake of my favorite. Well, I felt a bit awkward because everyone else kept praising me though. However, I could help raising Luna’s reputation with this incident. I was willing to endure the awkwardness if I could help Luna with this.

“May I say something too?”

Lancelot approached me. He had a serious expression on his face. 

“Well, sure… I guess?”

I didn’t feel any hostility, so I decided to listen to his words first. Maybe he was planning to challenge me to a duel to maintain the honor of the subjugation team? In that case, come at it. I would finish him at the speed of light so I could return to Luna again. 

I braced myself for the impending challenge, but then… Lancelot slowly bowed his head deeply at me. 

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t able to help with anything.”

“Huh…?”

I didn’t quite understand, but it seemed Lancelot was feeling guilty. 

“No,no. That’s not true. You did help! Thanks to you and the other knights, I was able to rush toward the Black Dragon without any worry. I know I can count on you guys to hold the ground. Thank you for that. I really appreciate it.”

I was the one that accepted Alisa’s request. I was trying to take advantage of the church even. Given Luna’s reputation, it wouldn’t be strange if the church tried to attack Luna in the midst of the confusion. A cursed individual was against the church’s ideology after all. Despite our rough start, the holy knights decided to protect the residents of Comet Village without any prejudice. In fact, I did see Lancelot was staying close to Luna, ready to protect her if something were to happen.

Hence why, I changed my mind about Lancelot. This man deserved my respect. 

“So this is the difference in our character… What a big heart. I can really feel the difference in character.”

“No,no, I don’t think there’s any difference in character or whatever you’re talking about.”

I didn’t quite understand what Lancelot was talking about, but since he seemed so sure about whatever he was talking about, I just decided to let it slide. 

“I need to work hard so that I won’t lose to Ike-sama. I need to be sure I won’t be a burden again if I’m granted the chance to work with him again.”

“Su-Sure…?”

Well, it would be troublesome if he became an enemy after he got stronger. I would prefer it if he stayed the same…

“By the way, Ike-sama. You’ve exceeded our expectations, so we’d like to give you additional reward. Do you have anything you wish to have?”

Alisa asked me with a cheerful smile on her face for some reason.

“I’ve said it many times before, but I will say it again. I don’t need any reward. I’m just doing what I should do as a member of the Hanbulg family.”

“Please don’t say that. I promise you, I won’t do anything bad to you.”

“…Alright. Then can you make sure the church will get the credit for defeating the Black Dragon? I have my own reasons that I don’t want to elaborate, but I would much prefer it if Saint-sama can take the credit for this subjugation instead.”

“That’s… I see. In that case, I’ll be sure to prepare a special reward for you then.”

Any reward Alisa could give to me wouldn’t come close to the reward of being able to spend a lovey dovey time with my beloved Luna. Right now, spending time with Luna was the most important thing for me. Now that I had done my duty, I wanted to be allowed to be a little selfish. I wanted to flirt with Luna!

“Fufu… Just leave it to me.”

Alisa was grinning from ear to ear. Not caring about her in the slightest, I just continued stroking Luna’s beautiful silver hair.
