ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“Thi-This is bad!! The Black Dragon is approaching our village!!”
In the original Fortune Lover storyline, the Black Dragon was nestled deep within the western mountain range. The encounter location with the Black Dragon in Fortune Lover never changed regardless of which route the player took. So why would the Black Dragon come all the way to this village on its own volition?
Besides, the timing was just too convenient. At this rate, the residents of Comet Village—no, my subjects—would be in danger. I had to avoid the worst possible scenario at all costs.
“I heard dragons are drawn to strong magic power… Could it be that the dragon was attracted by the magic spell Ike-sama unleashed just now..?”
“But he only used a beginner-level spell though?!”
“It’s not about the level of magic used. The dragon must be drawn by the magic power residing in Ike-sama’s body!”
“The magic power he has… Could it be..?!”
In that case, the dragon might also be targeting Luna. After all, Luna was the final boss of Fortune Lover.
“But why is the Black Dragon drawn to human’s magic power?”
“Well, to eat of course. The dragon sees magic power as a source of food.”
“WHAT?!”
Of course, Alisa was one of the great suspects here, but if the dragon truly came here because of someone’s magic power… Then the Black Dragon might be coming to eat Luna.
How dare it! The audacity!! My favorite character is not food! I will turn the tables and make you the prey instead! Whether you’re edible or not is not important here.
“Ike-sama! The dragon is coming after you! I knew Ike-sama was strong, but I never imagined the dragon would be attracted to you too… This is a blunder from our side. Please, escape with Luna-sama. The church will hold the dragon off for you to make your escape.”
“No, it’s fine. The Black Dragon is closing in as we speak now. Saint-sama, I’m sorry, but can you please set up a shield to protect this village? This village definitely can’t afford anymore destruction. I will go face the dragon now! Body Enhancement!”
In the midst of the chaos, I activated Staff of the Dragon Star, the artifact resting in me.
“Ike-sama, where did that staff come from—”
I quickly cast body enhancement magic on myself and kicked off the ground with all my might to accelerate my speed. I didn’t have the time to hear Alisa’s words until the end. I needed to eliminate any threat to Luna as soon as possible. Any second was precious.
I could fight with ease if I knew Alisa would use her defensive magic to protect Luna and the village. I didn’t plan on revealing the artifact I had here, but I changed my mind. I couldn’t take the risk. Any threat to my favorite and the lives of the villagers had to be eliminated at all cost.
Fueled by momentum, I used the Staff of the Dragon Star to knock down the Black Dragon, slamming the huge lizard to the ground. I knew the staff wasn’t meant to be used like a bludgeon, but I wanted to avoid getting Comet Village caught in the dragon’s breath attack range. Besides, you could technically use a grimoire as a blunt weapon. Of course you could also use a staff as a bludgeon.
“Sorry about this, but my favorite is waiting. I need to wrap up our meeting quickly.”
I unleashed a multitude of magic circles and shouted.
“DROP DEAD!!”
I cast all attributes I could muster with all of my might at the dragon. Black Dragon had no elemental weakness, so I had no other choice but to overwhelm it with brute force. But still, with the combination of the strongest weapon and my knowledge of the game, the dragon stood no chance against me.
“GROOOARRRR!!”
The Black Dragon laid flat on the ground, twitching all over. While the artifact’s power certainly helped in defeating the dragon, but it seemed the intensive training from Marsha-nee was not in vain either. I hardly felt anything. I didn’t feel tired and I still had a lot of magic power left.
“Alright. Time to return to Luna.”
I used magic to reinforce my body again and headed back to Comet Village, no, to Luna.

Chapter 23: The Saint’s Plan SIDE Alisa
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
I, Alisa Vanded, am a saint.
A saint was chosen once every 10 years from among the nuns serving the church. The most outstanding nuns would be chosen as the saint. I was elected as a saint candidate and coincidentally, I was the strongest one out of all candidates. That was why I was chosen to become a saint.
Unfortunately, I didn’t possess any supernatural powers like being able to hear the voice of God. If I did, I would probably be more confident in myself. That being said, I had received many privileges as a saint. The other nuns were staring at me in envy and the quality of my meals had improved significantly. I even had personal nuns in charge of attending to my needs.
However, since I was used to doing everything by myself, I didn’t like this change. I only felt frustrated. The privilege felt stifling. I admitted, I used to admire the existence of a saint back when I was young. The nuns that raised me often told me tales about how amazing saints were. Hence why, when I was genuinely happy when I was appointed as a saint.
Ironically, I felt more like myself becoming my anointment as a saint. Not to mention, now that I had become a saint, I was bound with my duty to pray for the peace of the people blessed by God’s favor.
“Saint Alisa… If the Demon Lord were to appear, would you fight alongside the hero?”
Consequently, I was asked by the King to help the still-unknown hero in defeating the yet-to-be-born Demon Lord. I could never forget the conversation I had with the King.
“Of course. The existence of the Demon Lord is bound to threaten the lives of the people favored by God. It is my duty as a saint to alleviate that fear.”
“Oh…! How reassuring! Then, let me introduce you to the Hero! This is Julius, he’s a hero! He was summoned to this world not too long ago. I hope you can continue to help him.”
“Guhehehe~ Nice to meet you, Saint-chan.”
I couldn’t shake away the unsettling feeling I had when I met the Hero for the first time.
“Even so… Can’t he do something about that lecherous gaze of his? He truly disgust me.”
The Hero was always looking at me with lecherous eyes. Since I had vowed to serve God, I couldn’t marry anyone in particular and yet, the Hero was overflowing with unfounded confidence. I could tell the Hero believed he could own me. He really gave me the creep.
To be honest, I had high hopes for the arrival of the hero. After all, a hero was an existence meant to save the world. Since he was sent to this world by God, I thought he must be someone with a noble soul. However, the reality was unlike my expectation. Hence why I kept making various excuses to keep my distance from Hero Julius.
One day, the King asked me to set up a defensive barrier for him. Apparently, the Hero was going to have a spar with a man by the name Ike Hanbulg. I didn’t know what kind of man Ike Hanbulg was, but from what I could gather from the King’s words, it seemed this person had a particularly bad reputation. Anyway, this man wouldn’t have anything to do with my life. Once this spar was over, I would have nothing to do with him.
Or so I thought.
“Drop dead, you asshole.”
When Ike-sama defeated Hero Julius by a landslide, I felt an immense sense of relief. That was the turning point that caused me to be interested in a man named Ike Hanbulg. I wanted to know more about this man named Ike Hanbulg. I was thirsting for the smallest detail of his information.
Driven by my purely intellectual curiosity, I decided to pay the Hanbulg Duchy a visit. I knew it was rude of me to come by unannounced, but I couldn’t help myself.
“Yes. Actually, I have a request for you, Ike-sama.”
In order to evaluate his ability, I set up a minimum goal for him to achieve. Investigate the Black Dragon. Once he pinpointed the location of the dragon, the church could handle the rest.
That being said, Black Dragon was a dangerous monster. Despite the danger lurking, Ike-sama accepted my request without any hesitation. The reason? Because he knew the subjects of his territory were in danger.
On the way there, I became increasingly anxious.
What if Ike-sama’s sense of justice got the better of him and he rushed to defeat the Black Dragon on his own? He wouldn’t be able to come out unscathed if he dared to face the Black Dragon.
However, before we could even begin to do any sort of investigation, the Black Dragon itself came our way.
“Ike-sama! The dragon is coming after you! I knew Ike-sama was strong, but I never imagined the dragon would be attracted to you too… This is a blunder from our side. Please, escape with Luna-sama. The church will hold the dragon off for you to make your escape.”
I asked Ike-sama to get to safety, but…
“No, it’s fine. The Black Dragon is closing in as we speak now. Saint-sama, I’m sorry, but can you please set up a shield to protect this village? This village definitely can’t afford anymore destruction. I will go face the dragon now! Body Enhancement!”
He said before he dashed toward the Black Dragon and in an instant, he slammed the dragon into the ground. Then without giving the dragon any opening, he unleashed a multitude of magic circles. The barrage of spells almost looked divine, as if it were a miracle of God.
Of course, I had to keep that thought to myself. I would be accused of blasphemy if I said that out loud. We suffered 0 casualties. It was nothing but a miracle, given how ferocious Black Dragon was.
No one could have predicted this outcome. Not only did Ike-sama confronted the dragon on his own, but he also defeated it in an instant. He was like the heroes of myths. This was definitely an achievement that deserved to be celebrated.
But… This was Ike-sama. I knew he would decline any form of reward I proposed to him. He was the truly complete opposite of the rumor. Given his age, it wouldn’t be weird for someone like him to act like a child. It was only natural for a nobleman his age to be protected by the adult knights.
And yet, he was actually someone with a lion heart. He truly cared for his subjects and more importantly, his fiancée, the person closest to him. Most noblemen regarded their fiancées with a feeling furthest from love. Speaking of fiancées, I also wished to get along with Ike-sama’s fiancée.
Let me said this first. I held no ill feelings toward Luna-san. After all, I was also abandoned by my parents. I was discarded in front of the church as a baby. Hence why I didn’t even have any memories of my parents. I had been serving God ever since I could remember. Well, I could say it was a good thing I didn’t have any memories of my parents. In a sense, I didn’t have any memories of being abandoned by my parents either. I was raised by the nuns in the church. One particular nun was basically my adoptive mother. Moreover, I had great power in me too, although my power might be of different nature to her. My abilities just happened to not come with a cursed label.
If our circumstances were different, I might end up the same way as Luna-san. Right. I just had a great idea.
I came up with a way to improve my standing in Ike-sama’s eyes while also helping his fiancée, Luna-san. They would surely be happy about this. I didn’t want to risk getting refused by him, so I would keep this plan of mine as a surprise until the very last moment. Well, one could also say this was a little payback for the way he treated me.
Hiding the smirk from forming, I waited for Ike-sama’s return.
