Chapter 21: I Will Make Sure You All Can’t Ever Speak Another Word Ever Again

“Yaaahooooo! Kill everyone except the women and children!! Take every valuable things with us!!”

Litany of screams echoed all around. The bandits dared to attack a village that was already destroyed by the Black Dragon… Their actions were so despicable that I felt sick in my stomach. I couldn’t believe there was someone even scummier than the original Ike Hanbulg. 

“Captain!! These guys aren’t just ordinary bandits!!”

Impregnable Fortress Gilbert shouted, causing the bandit gang to get even more riled up. 

“Oi,oi,oi? Is this guy a masochist?!”

“Nice! We can attack him as much as we want!!”

“Don’t go dying on us so easily, tough guy!”

“Ugh…! I’m a member of Holy Knight Subjugation Squad!! Don’t underestimate me, for I am Impregnable Fortress Gilbert!!”

Gilbert took on the bandit gang’s attack, but the bandit’s fierce assault showed no signs of stopping. Indeed. While what the bandit gang’s words might make them look amateur-ish, but their combat skills, their teamwork and even their individual abilities were far superior to what one would expect from normal bandits. 

And more importantly…

“This is bad… There’s too many of them.”

Lancelot muttered with a sour look on his face. 

The bandit numbered around 30 or more just at a single glance alone while there were only around 10 holy knights in here. We were clearly fighting a losing battle since we had to fight the bandit while protecting the villagers at the same time.

“Everyone! Do not break our formation! We are the subjugation squad under the direct order of Saintess-sama! We must not falter in front of mere bandits!!”

“Ha! Staying in formation won’t save your ass!”

“Hyahahahaha!! We will take our time killing you!”

“Fresh meat! So much fresh meat! What a bargain!! What a bargain!!”

The bandit gang’s fierce assault continued unabated. They were using melee weapons like swords and hatchets, but these weapons seemed too high-quality for a group of bandits from the outskirts of the kingdom. 

That wasn’t the only odd thing here. This situation was way too suspicious. No matter how outnumbered we were, we were still the holy knights. Normally, any ordinary bandits would feel scared if they had to fight against a trained army like the holy knights. Especially if the bandits truly came here to pillage a village that had been devastated by the Black Dragon. At least, if I were in the bandits’ position, I would choose to run away instead of fighting. 

“Don’t underestimate us! We’re not going to lose against mere bandits like you guys!”

Lancelot shouted as he swung his sword at a speed too fast for the bandits to follow. Combining both sharp movement and efficient weight shift, he attacked three bandits at the same time with striking precision. There was no wasted movement. Just from this short attack, I could tell how skilled Lancelot was. 

“Ugh…! Not bad!”

“This guy… He’s not a bargain!”

“Nice, nice!! This guy is so much fun to fight!!”

On the receiving end of Lancelot’s precise attack, the three bandits backed away, keeping their distance. These three bandits were far too skilled for a mere bandit.

“I see… Assassins pretending to be bandits…”

Lancelot glared at the three most skilled bandits. Indeed. Just as Lancelot said, the bandits were probably assassins. Normal bandits would immediately run away if they saw a group of holy knights at the village they intended to plunder. And yet, instead of running away, these people looked eager to fight us. They were fighting on equal footing against the holy knights even. 

This was the most plausible deduction. Everything would make sense if these people were actually assassins. 

“Ha! So what if we are?!”

“Whether we’re assassins or not, you’re all going to die here anyway!”

“We’re going to get a bonus if we can kill you guys here! Hahaha!! What a bargain!!”

“Don’t underestimate us! As long as I, Lancelot, am here, I won’t let any of you lay a single finger on Saintess-sama!! I will bring divine retribution onto you all!!”

Indeed. Their target must be Alisa, after all Luna and I were a bonus. We only decided to come with them to the western mountains right after Alisa asked us to help her. But still, if they were truly targeting Alisa or maybe me… Their plan wasn’t that good to say the least. 

“Well, whoever their target is, it doesn’t change the fact that they’re my enemies though.”

The fact that they attacked a village within my territory remained the same. Alisa might be their target, but that didn’t really matter to me right now. 

“Oi. What do you guys think you’re doing in my territory?”

I stepped in front of the bandit gang. I couldn’t let them continue wrecking havoc as they pleased on my land any longer. Of course, I wouldn’t kill them. Luna was here, so I would just make them feel a little bit of pain—

“OI,OI,OI! Look at this kid! He’s trying to play the hero! Ha! You think that bluff is going to work on us?!”

“What’s with this chubby guy?! Heh. Let’s roast him and eat him! He looks juicy!”

“Yaahooo! Look at those jiggling fat! This is a bargain festival! So many juicy fresh meat!!”

“I see. I guess I need to make sure you all can’t ever speak another word ever again.”

I changed my mind. I wouldn’t only make them suffer the worst pain possible. I planned on killing them for real. 

My veins popped up in my head, throbbing, as I summoned a purple magic circle. 

Since they had decided to be rude to me first, I decided to not hold back. They shall pay the price for provoking me. 

“Prepare to get electrocuted! Thunderbolt, 30-shot barrage!!”

I fired a barrage of thunderbolts at the bandit gang. Loud, crackling ‘ZUGAGAGA’ sound echoed. 

“””ARGHHHH!!!”””

Not a single one was left unscathed. My thunderbolts rained down upon all of them. 30 bandits were now lying flat on the ground. All of them were trembling, flickering like a dying rat. 

“Thunderbolt is a beginner-level spell, right? A beginner-level spell is enough to take down a gang of bandits in one shot?! Is this even possible?! I think you need to be at least an S-rank magician to pull this off!”

“Oi,oi… Did that guy really attack all the bandits and nothing else?! What the heck with that accuracy?! And that rapid-fire rate?! Wow, what a terrifying guy.”

“It seems so… What incredible control over magic. I’m glad to know he’s on our side.”

Alisa said she was glad I was on her side, but in the near future, she would be on the hero’s side and become my enemy instead. What a strange girl. She had seen how I clashed with the Hero on the day of the King’s so-called birthday party. Why would she ask me to help her instead? Nonetheless, I didn’t have any intention of letting my guard down around her.

“Ah..! Ike-sama! You’re so amazing!♡”

Well, it seemed I had gained another brownie point in Luna’s eyes. 

“Ike-sama, thank you very much for your help. For now, let’s interrogate the bandits—”

Just when we thought things were finally settling down…

“GROAAAAAARRR!!”

A thunderous roar echoed from a distance. 

“Thi-This is bad!! The Black Dragon is approaching our village!!”

A young man, who was guarding the entrance to the village, ran to us in panic. 

A new threat kept coming one after another to Comet Village.
