Chapter 18: Show Them What I Can Do

“Saintess-sama! We’ve been expecting you. Our subjugation team will protect you from here on.”

We had finally arrived at the western mountains located within the Hanbulg duchy territory. The rampaging Black Dragon was supposed to be her. In the original game storyline, the Black Dragon would’ve grown even more ferocious and stronger because of the Demon Lord’s influence and even started attacking the surrounding towns.

We ended up coming here earlier than the original timeline, but this might be a good thing. At least I got the chance to defeat the Black Dragon before it got stronger.

We might be diverging from the original timeline by a landslide, but since we could eliminate future threats that were bound to appear anyway… This only meant I could reduce the unnecessary obstacle standing before me and Luna. 

Although I wasn’t keen on it, but I also brought the artifact along with me just to be safe. As for Marsha-nee, she had to stay in our mansion. Father wasn’t around so someone from the main family had to stay behind to avoid any problem. Still, she was really reluctant to part with me until the very last moment. 

Before we left the mansion, Marsha-nee was pouting and I could see a hint of tears on the corner of her eyes. I couldn’t help but to think the original Ike should’ve treated his big sister a bit better, given how much she cared about him. 

“If it gets dangerous, you need to run away immediately, okay?! I won’t forgive you if you dare to die first!!!”

Also… Luna insisted on coming along as soon as she realized I was going on an investigation request. 

“I’m going as well. Ike-sama, if you refuse to bring me with you, I will resent you forever!! I won’t let you be alone with Saintess-sama…”

So she said. Her eyes were big and moist, just like a begging Chihuahua. The glasses seemed to add a further gleam to her already beautiful eyes. 

“You know… Nothing will happen even if I end up alone with the Saintess anyway.”

“I… I can’t help but feel anxious. I believe in Ike-sama and I know you won’t make any irresponsible mistakes, but just the mere thought of you not being by my side makes me feel so… Uncomfortable. Besides, I know Ike-sama keeps glancing at my breast…”

“I-I’m not looking at your chest in particular or anything though?!”

To be fair, maybe I did look. But only at Luna’s chest! I didn’t care about other women’s breasts! For me, their boobs were nothing but a lump of fat!

And so, Luna insisted on letting me come along. Luna looked so adorable as well today. So super adorable. 

“By the way… May I know who they are?”

One of the subjugation members cast a blatantly rude gaze on our way. He was a man with short silver hair. 

“Lancelot, stop that. They are my guests. I’m the one that asked them to investigate this area.”

“Saintess-sama’s…. I see. My apologies.”

Lancelot was kneeling and bowing his head, but his eyes were glaring at me. 

“But Saintess-sama, I strongly believe we can deal with the situation at hand just fine without the help of someone like him.”

“Lancelot!!”

“No, Saintess-sama! We will definitely slain that evil creature by ourselves! We can’t possibly put children like them in danger like this!”

It seemed this Lancelot guy was underestimating me because of my appearance. I didn’t mind their concern, but seeing him acting like this even though their side was the one that requested my presence was a bit annoying to be honest. 

“What a rude person he is…”

Luna muttered under her breath, looking clearly displeased at this silver haired guy. I was glad to know she was willing to stand up for me. It seemed for Luna, ridiculing me was the same as ridiculing her since I was her husband. I still couldn’t fully understand the noble’s mindset in that specific aspect, but if his action made Luna feel displeased, I needed to put an end to his attitude. 

“Can I say something for a bit?”

“What?”

Lancelot showed his displeasure as he looked at me. 

“Since you won’t stop wobbling your mouth, should I just show you what I can do right here and now?”

“That won’t be necessary. I’m just trying to say what we don’t need someone like you in here.”

“Lancelott!”

Alisa interrupted our conversation. Given she always smiled in a mysterious way that made me unable to know her true motives, I really didn’t expect she would raise her voice like that. 

“Please be quiet for a moment. Anyway, Ike-sama is my guest. If you can’t understand that much, then please leave.”

“Bu-But… Saintess-sama…”

“Enough. It’s enough. I’m strong enough to protect myself.”

“Well, please wait a moment. Captain, it’s fine, isn’t it? Let’s see what this boy can do for a bit.”

“Gilbert…”

A large man by the name Gilbert grabbed Lancelot’s shoulder. 

“Oi, young boy! Sorry about that. Our captain can be a bit rigid.”

“Who’s being rigid?!”

“Now, now… Calm down. Captain, I get it. You’re worried about these kids, right? I don’t know why Saintess-sama personally asked for this boy’s help, but I’m sure she has her own reason for it. But still, at this rate, Our conversation will just go in circles. That’s why…”

Gilbert slammed his chest. 

“Come at me! Then we can decide if we can work together or not! Captain, you don’t mind it, right?”

“Well, if you insist then I guess it’s fine, but…”

“What are you two doing? How dare you decide things on your own?”

“Saintess-sama, I’m sorry but we can’t afford to babysit this little boy. Our target is a Black Dragon. If we don’t have enough strength to defeat it, we might end up dead. It’s better to be safe than to be sorry. These kids are still young and while I don’t know what you’re planning on, but please consider our position a little bit too…”

“Oi! Gilbert! You’re being disrespectful to Saintess-sama!”

Gilbert tried to diffuse Lancelot’s anger by saying, “Now, now…”. Lancelot was the captain of the squad, so he should had more power and could exert his authority if he so inclined. However, just from this short exchange alone, I could tell Lancelot couldn’t be that harsh to Gilbert. Their dynamic was quite strange indeed. 

“Alright! It’s decided! Young boy! I will lend you my chest!!”

Gilbert raised a large shield that matched his burly figure.

No! I don’t want your chest! The only chest I’m interested in is Luna’s! Good grief. What a ridiculous guy!

But..

“Fine by me.”

I was curious to know how much skill had grown against someone who might become my enemy in the future. Kukuku… Alisa.. You might think you were the one using me, but I shall turn the table and use you instead. 

“I’m a member of the glorious Holy Knight Order’s subjugation team! I’m called Impregnable Fortress Gilbert! Now then! Young boy! Come at me with all your might! Let me show you how harsh reality can be! Young boy! Introduce yourself too!”

“I’m the next head of the Hanbulg family. My name is Ike Hanbulg. I’m also Luna’s husband.”

“Hanbulg… Very well! Come!!”

For some reason Gilbert’s eyes seemed to sparkle when he heard my name. At this rate, no one could tell who the real ‘young boy’ was. Not only was his stature big, but his presence was overwhelming too… I better wrap this up quickly. 

“Well then, excuse me… Wind Storm!”

“Ha! You choose the basic Wind Storm out of all things?! That puny wind won’t break my defense-… Wait-?! Wha-Whaaaaaaat?!?!?!”

With a deep scream, Impregnable Fortress Gilbert soared high into the air. Thanks to his heavy armor, shield and well-defined muscles, he was falling at incredible speed. Of course, I didn’t want him to crash into the ground and die so I used another wind magic to cushion his fall. 

“Oopfh-!!”

That being said, it must’ve still hurt even with the wind cushioning his fall. 

“Gi-Gilbert?!”

Lancelot quickly approached the fallen Impregnable Fortress Gilbert. Gilbert was still laying face down on the ground, twitching slightly.
