Chapter 16: The Fiery Embers of Vengeance ~ SIDE Hero

“Give me all the information about Ike Hanbulg! All of it! Even the smallest details are fine!”

I, Julius Guilford, formerly Tsubasa Takamura, was a hero. To be precise, I was summoned to this world as a hero. I, a former high school student from Japan, was transmigrated as Julius. 

Back in Japan, I was looked down upon by all the idiots. The ones I reluctantly hung out with couldn’t even care less about me and all the foolish women in school looked down on me. I was in despair, thinking I had to live this miserable life for decades to come. In the end, I immersed myself in playing various games and then, I was summoned to this world as a hero.

In other words, this was the start of my era. I discarded the name Takamura the moment I realized I had been reincarnated as Julius. I abandoned any remnants of that wretched world, including the name Tsubasa Takamura. I threw away all the things that those stupid people failed to appreciate and started anew in this world. 

As a hero, everyone in this world acknowledged by abilities. They were looking at me with envy, some even tried to curry my favor. This. This was the kind of future I had dreamed of. 

“Ike Hanbulg… I will never forgive him…”

My face was burned. Even though I got them healed with a Heal spell, the burn scars were still throbbing and aching. My dignity was trampled by a mere fat mob, someone who was worth nothing more as a punching bag. Moreover, this humiliation reminded me of the way those idiots from my high school stared at me before my reincarnation. Ike was looking at me with the same disdainful eyes as they did. 

I wouldn’t be satisfied until I completely crushed Ike Hanbulg to the ground. Of course, I also planned on making his fiancée mine. Honestly, that Luna girl didn’t give me the heroine vibe with those ugly glasses on, but whatever. I wanted to take everything Ike held dear right in front of his eyes and push him to the abyss of despair. That was how furious I was. 

That being said, her chest was good enough for me. When she became mine, I would make her take those ugly glasses off and wore clothes that emphasized her chest. 

Also, I was angry at those useless bunch in the church. I told them my face was still hurting, buy they insisted that my burn was already completely healed. 

“Well, I don’t really care about those people at the church. After all, the saintess is with them.”

A beautiful face. A great figure. An S-class beauty by anyone’s standard. She even had significant influence in this kingdom. There was no one else who matched me as well as she. A saintess and a hero. We would make a great couple. 

Besides, I was sure without any doubt that the saintess was in love with me. That smile of hers practically screamed that she couldn’t stop thinking about this. I knew this because I had completed countless romance games. Still… She felt somewhat familiar. As a saintess, it was only natural for her to have a complex background setting, but I felt like I had seen her before. She looked like one of those beautiful characters from one of the games I had played. 

Right. A game. This world was a game world solely created for my sake. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say I was the main character of this world. I was justice in this world. Hence why, I could eliminate the people I didn’t like without facing any repercussions. No one would dare to raise any complaints. In exchange for that, I would defeat the Demon Lord for them and bring peace upon this world. 

Ah, speaking of which… I hadn’t thought about what I would do after I saved the world. Right. I should ask the King to get the saintess to marry me. Surely she would cry tears of joy. After all, the saintess was in love with me, the hero of this world. 

“Hero… Julius-sama, here’s the information you’ve requested about Ike Hanbulg.”

“Tch. Took you long enough.”

I received a book from the maid serving me in the royal castle. I skimmed through the pages. Although the letters were written in this world’s language, but I could somehow read it just fine. This must be one of my perks as a transmigrator when I was summoned to this world as a hero. 

“Hmm~ His Brother, Raize, lost in a duel against Ike Hanbulg and was thrown into the northern monastery at the foot of the Aines Mountains. The northern monastery is known for its strict environment and rules. Heh. This could be useful for me.”

No one would notice if just one person from the monastery were to go missing. Besides, no one would give a second thought if Raiza, who got sent to the northern monastery after losing against Ike, were to hold a grudge against Ike. There was no other person more convenient than Raiza for my plans.

“Just you wait, Ike Hanbulg… You will pay the price for mocking me…”

I vowed to exact my revenge against Ike Hanbulg.

Chapter 17: A Request From the Saintess

“Ike… Just what have you done?!”

“Huh…? What do you mean, Marsha-nee? Why are you asking me that out of the blue?”

Two days had passed after we arrived home from the King’s party. I had planned on spending my day lounging around with Luna. I had just finished all my chores and daily training to the best of my abilities solely for spending lovey dovey time with Luna after all. 

Since my father was still in the capital, this was the perfect opportunity for me to let loose. 

“The Saintess came asking if she could see you.”

“Huh? The Saintess? Why?”

“I’m the one that should be asking you that question. I don’t know why she specifically asked for you! Anyway, this isn’t the time to be arguing about this. There are tons of church carriages and holy knights stationed in front of the mansion. They’re your guests, so YOU need to be the one to handle this!”

“What….”

Honestly speaking, I didn’t have any desire to see her. After all, I would have to confront her as an enemy sooner or later. I really didn’t want to reveal anything that could be used against me in the future. But of course, I knew I couldn’t just turn her away. The saintess was the symbol of the goddess, the only religion revered by the people. Turning her into an enemy would mean turning everyone in the kingdom against me. 

She was one of the capture targets in Fortune Lover, so we could proceed with the storyline without turning the saintness into an enemy. However, since I got transmigrated as Ike Hanbulg, there was a chance that she might become my enemy one day. Hence why I needed to be careful with my response. I couldn’t afford to pick the wrong choice and ended up making the whole nation my enemy early on. 

I was still in the process of building up my strength. If I was going to turn her into my enemy, that time had to wait until I knew I had a great chance of winning against her. 

“Pardon the intrusion.”

“Sa-Saintess-sama? Why are you here?! Weren’t you supposed to be waiting in the reception room?!”

Marsha-nee was in a total panic. 

“My apologies. I followed you in secret here.”

Arisa answered calmly. She was dressed in her nun’s outfit. This golden-haired beauty already had the perfect visual for the user, but now that I saw her in person… Her beauty was truly overwhelming in person. Her charm was so captivating that she could easily entice anyone regardless of gender. 

“It’s fine. Since I’m the one coming here without prior notice, I believe it’s only proper for me to come to see you directly.”

“…I heard you have something to talk about with me?”

“Yes. Actually, I have a request for you, Ike-sama.”

“A request?”

“That’s right. Of course I’m not asking you to work for free. There will be proper remuneration for your work. I will give you 30 gold coins if you can complete my request.”

30 gold coins was not a small amount by any means. 10 gold coins was roughly equivalent to the annual income of an average person in this world. In other words, the Saintess was offering me a reward equivalent to 3 years worth of income. 

“…With that kind of money, I think it would be cheaper and more reliable to send this request to the Adventurers’ Guild. Besides, I think the Hero would be far suited for any task than someone like me who’s considered as a failure.”

“Please don’t worry about the money. The money comes from my personal funds, so the church won’t be able to say anything against it. Besides… I want to avoid owing the Hero a favor as much as possible.”

Alisa made a blatantly unpleasant face at the mention of the Hero. Something must had happened between them. Well, not like I needed to concern myself with their problems.

“I see. Well, how about if you tell me the details of the request first before we start talking about the reward? I need to know what kind of thing you’re asking me to do before I can agree to it.”

“Ah, how rude of me. The request I’d like to make is to investigate the activity of a Black Dragon.”

“Investigate the activity of a Black Dragon?”

“Apparently there’s a Black Dragon rampaging in the western mountain range. I would like you to investigate that.”

“The western mountain range, huh…?”

There was a quest to defeat a Black Dragon in the western mountain range in Fortune Lover. This event was supposed to come in the middle of the playthrough though. Which meant, this event was supposed to come 3 years in the future. In that event, a Black Dragon was causing a significant destruction to the surrounding town because that dragon had grown stronger than usual under the influence of the Demon lord. In the game, one of the heroines, the Saint and the Hero would defeat the rampaging Black Dragon and receive honor and fame from it. Still… I didn’t understand why that event would come this early. 

That being said, we had a bigger problem at hand. 

“The western mountain range should still be within the territory of our family. Why haven’t we heard anything about this… Marsha-nee, do you know something?”

“No, this is my first time hearing about this too.”

“I see… That means the people in our territory might be in danger because of the Black Dragon…”

In that case, we needed to head to the western mountain range as soon as possible regardless of the Saintess’ request. It was truly unfortunate that I couldn’t spend the rest of my day lounging around with Luna, but this was also for the sake of our happy future together. I needed to cull down any sign of trouble before it became even bigger.

“Umm… Can I join in the discussion as well? Is that mission dangerous or not? If possible, I want to avoid putting my little brother in danger… It’s a dragon, which means… That monster is at least an S-rank, right?”

“Yes. You’re correct, Marsha-sama. However, please do not worry. The dangerous part will be handled by the holy knights. I’m merely asking Ike-sama to investigate.”

“I see… Yes, you did mention ‘investigate’, not ‘subjugation’.”

Alisa emphasized that the request she asked was strictly a reconnaissance duty. I just needed to investigate what was happening there and escape without fighting the dragon. There shouldn’t be any problem with that. 

“This is an important mission to save the innocents. Also, you’re allowed to think of this as a way to build an amicable relationship between me and Ike-sama.”

“I will gratefully accept the request without the building relationship part. Also, I don’t need any money. I can’t just stand here and watch our subjects suffer.”

I could just report about this to Father later on. I couldn’t keep getting his permission for every single thing and besides, I was pretty sure he would accept anything I said. 

“Your eyes have a nice glint to it.”

“Just now… Did you say something?”

“No. I didn’t say anything.”

“…”

What an annoying person to deal with. Alisa definitely said something, but here she was. Feigning innocence. 

“That’s right. I have a great idea. Since I’m already here, why don’t I come along with Ike-sama to help?”

“Why do you need to go that far? This is something that happened in our territory. Saintess-sama, you don’t need to go out of your own way to help us in person.”

I feigned innocence to test her out too. I knew why she wanted to help. She wanted to make the church took all the honor for this incident. However, I didn’t want to owe anything to Alisa. 

That being said, Alisa ended up giving me a response that was beyond my wildest expectation. 

“That’s right. Just between you and me, I don’t think the Hero will be the one to defeat the Demon Lord. I believe the person who will defeat the Demon Lord is… You, Ike-sama.”

“Huh…?”

“That’s why I thought it would be a great idea to gain your favor while I have the opportunity to do so.”

Alisa said with a beaming smile. I couldn’t comprehend what she had just said, so I couldn’t think of any comeback.
