Chapter 4: The Beautiful Sisters Next Door
(Ah~ I’m so tired… I just want to sleep…)
“Ara, Mamo-kun? Are you okay now?”
I turned toward the calm, mature voice.
“Ah, Yuki-nee. Good morning. You knew?”
“Yeah, we heard from Auntie and were worried about you.”
Yuki-nee is Kisaragi Yukino-san, who lives next door. She’s a college student and my childhood friend’s older sister.
She has a gentle and soft demeanor and is famously beautiful in the neighborhood.
Her glossy, long, straight hair has a slight perm at the ends since she started college.
She’s the complete opposite of Onee-chan, and to be honest, she’s someone I admire.
Since her parents are rarely home due to work and she often takes care of her younger sister, she exudes a motherly charm, making her a wonderful older sister.
“Thanks. I’m completely fine now!”
I patted my chest to show I was okay.
I’ve loved Yuki-nee, who’s taken care of me since I was little, too.
Whack!!
“Ouch!”
A shock ran through my butt; I thought a scooter had crashed into me.
“Don’t look at my sister with those perverted eyes! You, Mamoru, of all people! Are you an idiot?”
I hurriedly turned around and stepped back.
“What was that!? What if you broke a bone!? And what’s with ‘you, Mamoru, of all people’?”
“Of all people means of all people! You just got better, and you’re already doing this? You should just sleep forever.”
Standing there was the younger sister of the Kisaragi family, Kisaragi Natsumi.
She’s my childhood friend, the same age as me, and in the class next to mine, so she’s one of the few people I can talk to without holding back… a friend?
Her toned body, sharp nose, and strong-willed eyes exude a different charm from Yuki-nee, making her part of the neighborhood’s famous beautiful sister duo.
As for Natsumi, I completely deny it, though!
“Sis, don’t be so nice to a guy like him! What if he gets the wrong idea? If you have business with my sister, you go through me first.”
Natsumi ranted at Yuki-nee and me, then flipped her blonde twin-tails, crossed her arms, and stood defiantly.
As I rubbed my butt and stared at her, Natsumi turned her face away.
“W-What? Got a problem? You, Mamoru, of all people!”
She glanced at me sideways. What’s that about?
“Natsumi! That’s not okay. Mamo-kun just recovered; what if he fell and hit his head?”
Yuki-nee scolded Natsumi.
“Huh? I didn’t mean it like that… What’s that! Are you an idiot?”
Natsumi seemed flustered by Yuki-nee’s words but quickly spat out a retort and ran off toward school.
(So fast!)
Natsumi, with her incredible athletic ability, disappeared in no time.
“Don’t run, it’s dangero—-! Call me when you’re heading hom—!”
Yuki-nee shouted after the fleeing Natsumi.
“Sorry, Mamo-kun. She’s like that, but she was so worried when she heard you collapsed that she tried to barge in. She stuffed her bag with all sorts of things to bring over, and I barely managed to stop her, saying it’d cause more trouble. Natsumi’s a kind girl, even if she doesn’t seem like it.”
“I know. If Natsumi had kicked me for real, I’d be in the hospital for sure.”
Natsumi has been doing taekwondo since she was little and even placed second nationally in middle school. She’s probably the strongest around here.
“Exactly! She’s gotten even stronger, and if she kicked you for real, your bones would turn to dust.”
“Dust, huh…”
A chill ran down my spine.
(Huh?)
I felt a bit dizzy.
“Ah! Are you okay? Maybe you’re still not feeling well?”
Yuki-nee hurriedly rushed to my side.
“No, I’m fine, I’m fine! Just a little dizzy, that’s all!!”
“But…”
To reassure Yuki-nee, who was looking at me worriedly, I tensed my body and opened my eyes wider than usual to show I was okay.
“I’m fine, don’t worry!”
My voice came out louder than I intended.
“…Yes… Mamo-kun is fine… No need to worry…”
“Yuki-nee?”
Yuki-nee swayed as if the strength had left her body, muttering, and her eyes seemed to lack their usual light.
“Yuki-nee?!”
“…Huh? What?”
Yuki-nee snapped out of it at my voice.
“Huh? What was that? …Oh, sorry, you seem okay. I’ve got to get to university, so I’m off. Don’t be late, Mamo-kun.”
“Yeah, see you later.”
Yuki-nee waved and walked toward the station.
(…? …Ouch?!)
My right eye hurt for some reason.
Did Yuki-nee seem a bit off, too?
“Crap, I’m gonna be late!”
For now, I hurried to school.
