Chapter 85: Japan’s S-Rank

I left the schedule adjustments to the Ministry of D. I didn’t personally knew any of them and of course, I also didn’t know how to contact them either. I was merely dividing our roles reasonably.  After all, we were dealing with S-rank awakened individuals. They were among the busiest individuals in Japan.

I hadn’t expected them to gather so quickly and yet, just three days later, I was headed back to the Ministry of D.

“Everyone is really curious about the skill, huh?”

We also decided to include Mio and Piroane, who had already learned how to use 【Qi Control】 and 【Energy Blast】. While I could see Mio being able to teach, I doubted the intuitive-type Piroane could explain things to others—but she was S-rank too. We couldn’t exactly leave her out of a gathering of Japan’s S-rank awakened.

If anything, we needed to make sure the other S-rank members were well aware of just what a disappointment she was. 

“Ugh, so all the awakened S-rank individuals in Japan are gathering here, huh…”

We were in the gymnasium attached to the Ministry of D. It was a special day, so no one else was around.

“Today, Mio is going to teach those S-rank members.”

“Eh? I’m just assisting, right?”

“That’s true, but there will be times when you’ll be instructing them one-on-one. In those moments, you’re the teacher.”

“Ugh… Now I’m getting nervous.”

“You don’t need to worry that much.”

Piroane smiled at Mio, whose face had clouded over with anxiety.

“There’s no one better than me, after all!”

“Yeah, no one is worse than you either.”

“That much is true!”

I’ve got to admire her sense of self-worth….

“Sorry to keep you waiting, everyone.”

Just then, Samejima-san arrived, bringing them with her. Tougo Shimazu. Youki Nijou. Shin Mouri. Each one entered with a palpable sense of power emanating from them.

“Yo, Dungeon Ojisan!”

Tougo Shimazu, whom I had met before, came over first.

“Long time no see.”

“Turns out, our reunion is coming quicker than expected, huh?”

“Yes, it certainly does.”

“Looking forward to working with you today!”

He clapped me firmly on the back. It didn’t hurt, but he seemed like the physically affectionate type.

Honestly, I’m not great with that kind of person.

“Ugh, you’re getting friendly with Tougo? Ew. Does that mean Dungeon Ojisan is actually a delinquent too? Gross.”

“Hey, Youki! Who’re you calling a delinquent?! Don’t lump me in with those soy-sauce-on-sushi idiots!”

A girl in a customized school uniform—Youki Nijou. She was still in high school, in fact.

“If you can get along with Tougo, you’ve gotta be a delinquent. Ugh, no thanks. Stay away from me.”

“You little—”

“Could you two cut the banter already?”

A cool voice broke up their stare-down.

“We all made time in our busy schedules to be here. Let’s minimize waste as much as possible.”

A red-haired young man—Shin Mouri.

“You’re Jiro Hasegawa, right? I’m Shin Mouri. Pleased to meet you today.”

“Likewise.”

“You didn’t just acquire the skill—you’re willing to teach it to us, too. We appreciate it, but… Are you sure it’s okay to be so generous?”

“I don’t mind.”

“Ha, impressive.”

He was supposedly nicknamed the Flame Mage, but his manner was that of a cool and polite young man.

That kind of personality is preferable, as far as I’m concerned.

I can’t see the bottom of his strength.

As he exchanged initial greetings, Shin Mouri was calmly observing the man called Jiro Hasegawa. Mouri was suspicious of Jiro.

The way he had entered the public eye. His subsequent accomplishments. His career track was too perfect compared to his results. Even among S-rank awakeners, most had failures that stemmed from not fully mastering their powers. That had been true for Tougo Shimazu, for Youki Nijou, and of course, for Mouri himself.

But Jiro had none.

His awakening to S-rank had come far too late. He should barely have had any combat experience, yet in Mimimi Amanokawa’s videos, he’d demonstrated precise knowledge of monster weak points.

Then there were the rapid dungeon clears immediately after. His combat guidance to D-Tubers. His efforts to spread awareness about support-type abilities. The rumor that he’d been involved with that world’s strongest sword. And the Ministry of D’s excessive trust in him.

There was something off about Jiro Hasegawa. If he were simply an overly overpowered awakened individual, that would actually be easier to accept…

But is that all? Still…There’s more to him… More… 

“Hey, Jiro, aren’t we starting yet?”

“Right. Let’s get started. Mi… Mimimi-san, are you ready?”

“Y-Yesh!”

Ah, there’s Mimimi-chan. She looks so nervous. So cute~That soft and fluffy aura…Her existence alone is  so healing~~ And then there’s Piroane-sama. The real thing is so disappointing in a way that just hits different!

This space… It’s perfect. To think he’s here with those two… Jiro Hasegawa must be hiding some kind of secret. I’m so jealous!

Shin Mouri kept thinking all of this without letting a single crack show in his serious expression.

Once everyone had been introduced, we moved on to the lesson. Though calling it a “lesson” might be a stretch. All I did was explain that to use the skill 【Energy Blast】, they first needed to acquire 【Qi Control】.

Then I told them they needed to strongly will themselves to gain the skill, believe in the necessity of it, and keep making efforts to acquire it. After that, we simply demonstrated.

At first, they looked skeptical, but when Mimimi showed them herself, their expressions changed. As blunt as it sounded, the fact that a B-Class miner-type awakened like Mimimi had mastered it in a short time must’ve pricked their pride as those praised as S-rank awakeners.

They grew more serious, and their attitude toward learning 【Qi Control】 visibly changed.  By the end of the day, all of them had mastered 【Energy Blast】.

Incidentally, during the training, I checked the status of all four participants, including Samejima-san. The skill I used was 【Analyze】.
