Chapter 95: 9th Floor Guardian and Impact
Tester Life – Day 41 – Morning – 9th Floor – Yagumo Sanada
Clearing the rubble blocking half the staircase entrance, we start descending… but Rock gets stuck.
The staircase isn’t wide, and Rock, nearly 1.5 times my width in full armor, can’t fit.
Smirking at Rock’s shocked face, I tell him to return to his Magic Seal Crystal.
He perks up, as if just realizing, and trots to Sayaka’s side to crystalize.
Sayaka picks it up, wipes it with Rock’s dedicated cloth, and hands it to me.
I shoot her a look for spoiling him, but she just smiles wryly, finger to her lips.
Sighing, I pocket the crystal and descend with Saizou leading.
At the bottom, wall torches are already lit, and Saizou’s on alert.
The room’s larger than past Guardian or Monster Trap rooms—40 to 50 meters square, a vast stone chamber.
A black gate looms at the back. In the center stands a goblin resembling a heavily armored Hobgoblin with iron full-body armor, a greatshield, and a longsword—let’s call it a Goblin General. Behind it are two Goblin Wizards, and in front, eight regular sword-wielding goblins.
It’s like the 8th Floor Guardian beefed up, with archers swapped for wizards.
I summon Rock.
As he materializes in black light, the Goblin General roars.
“Gyuoooo!”
“Fireball! Fireball! Fireball!”
I launch Fireballs at the eight charging goblins and bark orders.
“Sayaka, deploy Water Wall at full power and snipe wizards with Ice Arrow! Rock, hold the General! Sheena, sync with Rock to crush it! Saizou, skirmish! I’ll handle any goblins that slip through!”
“Yes! ‘Water Wall’! ‘Ice Arrow’!”
“Indeed, a rapier works well against full armor. Let’s go, Rock.”
“Von!”
Sayaka casts rapidly, Rock charges the General, and Sheena follows.
Saizou darts along the wall, blending into shadows, targeting goblins scattered by my Fireballs.
“Fire Bullet! Fire Bullet!”
The wizards’ Fireballs launch at Rock, so I shoot Fire Bullets, intercepting them midair.
Sayaka’s two Ice Arrows pierce through the exploding Fireballs, nailing both wizards’ chests.
Rock, sparks raining on his helm, closes in on the General.
Good thing we got that helm, or he’d be bald again. As I think this, Rock’s greatshield slams into the General’s.
The General staggers but holds. Sayaka’s remaining Ice Arrow hits its helm’s forehead.
It doesn’t pierce but knocks it back, freezing the helm and blocking its vision.
Sheena seizes the chance, thrusting her rapier into the unarmored knee joint.
The General’s knee buckles. As Sheena aims for its throat, four goblins—survivors of my Fireballs Saizou hasn’t reached—charge me from both sides.
One collapses, a knife in its back. Beyond it, Saizou stands.
Nice work, I think, drawing my machete. I dodge a goblin’s sword and slash it down.
“Wind Cutter!”
A goblin tries circling the Water Wall from the other side, so I sever its legs with Wind Cutter.
Sayaka finishes it with a dagger.
The last goblin pauses, glancing at the General, where Sheena’s rapier pierces its throat and Rock’s short spear its gut.
Resolving itself, it raises its sword and charges me.
But a Poisoned Dagger buries itself in its neck.
The goblin, shocked, turns and collapses.
Saizou stands there, looking down at his kin like trash.
He pulls the dagger, bows to me, and leaves, likely to finish off wounded survivors.
Watching his back, I mutter, “He’s good.”
All goblins turn to magic stones, and I take them from Saizou.
The General was just a beefed-up Hobgoblin, its stone E+ rank.
Opening the treasure chest by the black gate, I find a green spellbook.
“Looks like a wind spell… Wind Ball or something?”
The cover has geometric patterns and a distorted orb bursting on impact.
“It’s an Impact spellbook. I’ve seen it before. It’s a beginner spell but versatile, favored by shield-users,” Sheena says.
“Impact… so, a shockwave. Shield-users like it, so it’s cast through shields?”
Like a game’s Shield Bash—sounds useful.
“Let’s learn it.”
“A wise choice. Hehe, I might not keep up with you soon, Danna-sama.”
I shrug at Sheena’s playful grin.
During break spars, I barely match her speed. She’s too fast, that rabbit. Her sharp ears block sneak attacks, and her 3D wall-kick attack landed a hit. That leap’s insane.
Musing, I open the spellbook, which burns away as usual.
Checking my memory, I grasp its use.
It’s a shockwave spell, but its range is narrow—effective only near contact.
As Sheena said, it’s a shield-user’s spell.
I order Rock to strike my small shield with his Black Iron Short Spear.
He complies, swinging upward.
I block and cast.
“Impact!”
The spear bounces sharply upward, throwing Rock off-balance.
“Waf!?”
He’s stunned.
“Nice. Angling it before casting could make it even better.”
Mana cost is like Fire Bullet, half a Fireball. Solid power for the cost.
I practice parrying to trip Rock or blasting his gut to knock him back.
Rock’s unharmed—his Black Iron Full-Body Armor absorbs the shock, taking negligible damage.
The spell’s meant to create openings, fitting for a beginner spell.
It’ll shine in close combat.
After testing, I open the black gate, revealing a brick-walled passage.
With a Return Medal, I pass through.
As expected, no transfer circle.
“Like the 5th Floor.”
“Such a setup is rare. In my world, dungeons were all stairs, no transfer circles,” Sheena says.
“Right, your world’s dungeons were millennia old. This is a test dungeon—demons are experimenting.”
Her world had monsters outside dungeons, possibly killing humans and bringing souls back. Earth has no monsters, so transfer circles might lure more humans.
Like the shop’s quirky items, the Queen’s tinkering.
After 15 minutes down a straight, trap-free passage, we reach a massive copper door, 5 meters tall, etched with a goblin in bulkier armor and a greatsword than the General.
“Goblin King, D-rank. High physical ability, great leadership, boosts same-species combat power with multiple special abilities. Stronger than its rank,” Sheena says.
“Sounds fun.”
I’ll take the lead this time. Rock might not hold it.
But first, mana recovery and food. I’m horny too—let’s satisfy hunger and lust, then face the final battle.
“Let’s eat lunch.”
“Hehe, such composure before a Goblin King. As expected of my Danna-sama.”
It’s just my sex drive, but I keep that to myself and grin.
I pull the plush carpet from my Magic Pouch, give Rock a sports drink, Saizou a pile of candy, and set out bentos to eat.
After filling our stomachs, with no monsters around, I strip Sayaka and Sheena naked for a two-hour 3P.
