Chapter 53: 6th Floor Guardian
Tester Life, Day 19, Evening, 6th Floor Guardian Room, Sanada Yagumo
As I touch the door, it opens automatically, just like the domain guardian’s room.
The interior is pitch black, impossible to see from outside.
Rock’s headlamp light doesn’t reach inside either.
Another invisible barrier, huh? I click my tongue inwardly and step into the room.
Once inside, torches on the walls ignite one by one, from the front to the back.
Only then can I see the room’s interior clearly.
It’s a stone chamber, 30 meters square, with a black gate at the far end.
In front of the black gate stands a goblin in leather armor wielding a sword, flanked by eight club-wielding goblins positioned like shields.
So the 6th floor guardian is a sword-wielding goblin. It’s taller than the others, about Rock’s height, but slimmer.
Its sword stance looks practiced—probably a skilled swordsman.
“Gyaah!”
Let’s call it a Goblin Soldier. The Goblin Soldier lets out a cry as soon as we enter, leading its minions in a horizontal line charge.
The distance is about 25 meters. Goblins are slower than Kobolds, but at this range, they’ll reach us in a few seconds.
I stay calm and cast magic toward the goblins at both ends.
Fireball. Fireball.
“Gi-gi!”
One goblin collapses, its legs burning from the blast’s aftermath, but those nearby dodge successfully.
As planned, they dodge toward the center, away from the Fireballs’ impact zones—I guided them there.
This slows their momentum as the dodging goblins obstruct the Goblin Soldier and others in the center.
“Rock! Go!”
Signaling Rock, who’s ready to charge, it raises its shield and short spear and rushes forward.
“Gya-gya-gya!”
Facing Rock’s incredible speed, the Goblin Soldier halts, hastily raising its sword and barking orders to its minions.
The surrounding goblins cluster to shield it, brandishing clubs despite their hesitation.
Wind Cutter. Wind Cutter. Wind Cutter.
No way I’m letting that slide. I move sideways to avoid hitting Rock and unleash Wind Cutters indiscriminately at the goblins shielding the Goblin Soldier.
“Gyan!” “Gyaba!”
The wind blades strike, wounding and staggering them, and Rock’s charge hits.
Not only the clustered goblins but also the Goblin Soldier behind them get knocked flying one after another.
I catch a glimpse of Rock’s short spear piercing the Goblin Soldier’s chest.
Nice one, Rock—went straight for the leader.
Poor Goblin Soldier didn’t get to show off its swordsmanship, taken out by Rock’s sheer mass.
Rock pulls the spear from the Soldier’s chest and stabs its neck for the finishing blow.
Meanwhile, I close the distance and quickly dispatch the fallen goblins.
Rock, pulling the spear free, finishes off the goblins rolling around.
“Good work, Rock. Solid attack.”
After taking out all the goblins, I pat Rock’s shoulder, praising its takedown of the Goblin Soldier.
It followed my training, carefully finishing with neck stabs. Smarter since evolving, it learns fast. Unlike that cocky Kobold King, who got wrecked easily.
“Wafun!”
Praised, Rock pants happily, wagging its tail.
Total Shiba Inu vibes, despite the beefy build.
I pat Rock’s shoulder again and tell it to collect the magic stones.
While it does, I open the copper treasure chest that appeared in front of the black gate.
“Grade 4 Potion and a blue medal? Oh, what was this again?”
Holding the blue medal, about the size of a 500-yen coin, I see magic circle-like engravings on both sides.
Recognizing it, I pull my smartphone from the Magic Pouch and open the photo album.
My album has pics of items for sale in the shop.
I find a photo of the same medal, tap to zoom, and read the item name and description.
“Right, Return Medal.”
Let’s see… Channeling mana teleports the user and anyone touching them outside the dungeon. In the test dungeon, it teleports to your My Room. Takes about 3 seconds to activate, during which you can’t move, so not recommended in combat. The medal vanishes after use.
Got it—an insurance policy for emergencies.
But it’s single-use and costs 20,000 DP. Plus, it’s tough to use in combat. Being immobile for 3 seconds in a crisis is deadly.
For use after combat, when you’re too drained to return, trading half a day’s earnings. Hm, I’d use it without hesitation, but other testers might get Last Elixir Syndrome.
Thinking that, I finish reading and put my phone away.
I take the magic stones from Rock, open the black gate, and see the same brick walls and torches as the 6th floor.
Just to be safe, I send Rock ahead to check the transfer circle. It barks “Wau!” so I pass through the gate.
To scout, I let Rock lead, following cautiously.
The 6th floor had no traps, but I can’t let my guard down, so we move slowly.
Five minutes later, two goblins appear—one with a rusty sword, one with a rusty knife.
So they’ve upgraded from clubs to blades.
“Rock, scatter them.”
“Waoooo!”
I send Rock charging to test how our strategy holds up.
One goblin panics and throws its knife, but Rock blocks it easily with its greatshield.
The sword-wielding goblin tries to meet the charge, hesitating, but both get knocked away effortlessly.
Rock turns back and finishes them off one by one.
Hm, riskier than the 6th floor, but the charge strategy still works.
The armor and shield might get scratched, but as long as Rock keeps its face covered, there’s no real threat.
“Good job. I’m counting on you this floor too.”
“Wafun!”
I pet Rock’s head as it hands me the magic stones, and it wags its tail vigorously.
It’s a bit early, but this is a good stopping point, so I’ll head back.
I return Rock to the Magic Seal Crystal and head to the floor transfer circle.
