Chapter 18: Second Floor Guardian
Tester Life Day 6, Morning, Test Dungeon First Floor, My Room, Yagumo Sanada
The morning after the clothespin play.
I got out of bed, showered, and brushed my teeth, recalling last night.
After the masochist succubus, the tanned big-sister succubus taught me a lesson again.
Three rounds with the masochist succubus, then three more squeezed out of me in no time. As I lay exhausted, she patted my head with her tail, like saying, “Good job, good boy.”
She drilled defeat into me, but I can’t beat that incredible pussy.
Still, the bratty succubus, third up, restored my confidence. Her relentless taunting and quick surrender never get old.
I did about nine rounds total, feeling refreshed, then showered and slept.
My horniness faded after seven, but the bratty succubus’s taunts pushed me to my limit.
Even so, a night’s sleep erased any sluggishness, and I woke to a physically comfortable morning.
Mentally, I’m starting to miss sunlight.
It’s a dungeon, so I’ve got to deal, I thought, resigning myself and changing into my guard uniform.
The pants I washed yesterday aren’t dry, so I wore the leather pants from a chest. A bit short, but they don’t hinder movement.
I went to buy bento and a sports drink from the shop but remembered I forgot to check my mana. I measured it—no change, still E-rank.
“Well, it’s the day after yesterday. Horn Rabbits might not raise it anymore.”
Muttering, I bought bento, equipped my leather armor and weapons, and left My Room.
Passing students washing faces at the fountain or strategizing in uniforms with weapons, I entered the dungeon.
“Hm?”
Three hours from the second floor’s gate, I entered a side tunnel and felt something off at the front wall, supposed to be a dead end, as I approached the second right turn.
Only walls ahead and to the left, but something was wrong.
I moved closer to inspect the front and left walls.
The left edge of the front wall was a double rock wall.
There was a gap between the walls, just wide enough for one person.
Stepping back, I viewed the overlapping walls from another angle.
“If you went right and hit a dead end, you’d miss this on the way back.”
I noticed because of my experience spotting camouflaged enemies in forests. During drug cartel wars, I saw a guy ambush with an optical camo shield in an alley. I felt something off, fired, and hit a hidden guy.
A hidden passage like this—something’s ahead, no doubt.
To pass through, I took off my backpack, holding it. My leather armor scraped the walls as I squeezed through.
After two meters, I emerged, shouting “Yes!” inwardly at the sight.
It was a 20-meter-square plaza with a black gate at the far end.
This was the Floor Guardian’s room.
But unlike the first floor’s Guardian room, no Guardian was near the gate.
What’s going on? I scanned the dim surroundings.
Then, I sensed something from the upper left, instinctively raising my iron small shield. A clang and impact hit it.
I dropped my backpack, readied my machete, and faced the sound’s source—nothing.
Calmly, I held my shield forward, scanning.
No sign of the enemy.
Giving up on eyes, I sharpened my senses and waited.
A presence from the right—I raised my shield.
Clang!
Another metallic scrape and impact.
This time, I saw the culprit.
A blue rabbit, Horn Rabbit-sized, with long, reflective ears like swords.
“Its ears are like blades. Call it a Sword Rabbit.”
After its attack was blocked, it kicked a nearby wall with its hind legs, darting to a high spot in the small room.
Got it—it escapes upward after attacking.
In this dim cave, it strikes from above.
Its speed is tricky, but once you know the trick, it’s just a Horn Rabbit.
I activated Physical Enhancement, kept my eyes on the Sword Rabbit, backed against a wall, and waited for its attack.
With enhanced dynamic vision, I could track it clearly.
Like clockwork, it kicked the left wall, charging straight at me.
No time for magic.
Instead of blocking, I stepped forward as its ear hit my shield, flicking it and its body upward.
“Wind Cutter!”
With a bang, I fired Wind Cutter at the launched Sword Rabbit’s belly.
It split in half surprisingly easily.
“Durability’s lower than a Horn Rabbit?”
Speed-specialized, huh. Its fast, sword-like ears and 3D attacks are tricky.
But with Physical Enhancement, it felt slow.
Learning Physical Enhancement was the right call. Without it, I’d have struggled more.
I mulled this over, watching the Sword Rabbit dissolve.
I picked up the black magic stone it left.
“Same as the first floor’s Guardian.”
The Sword Rabbit’s stone matched the Big Horn Rabbit’s—F+ rank, same small size as F-rank Horn Rabbit stones but darker.
But calling the Big Horn Rabbit and Sword Rabbit equal strength is off. The size-focused Big Horn Rabbit was easier. Same F+ rank, but strength varies—or it’s mass vs. speed specialization.
“Whatever, more importantly…”
Stowing the stone in my backpack, I eyed the black gate—or rather, the bronze chest that appeared in front of it.
Grinning, I approached the chest.
No keyhole, like always. But I stayed cautious.
As usual, I crouched by the chest’s side, prying the lid open with my machete.
“No traps. What’s inside?”
Chests have held leather armor, an iron small shield, and a Grade 4 potion—items worth 5,000 or 10,000 DP.
Peering in with hope, I saw cloth first.
“This… a robe? Oh! A machete! And a nice one.”
I pulled out a gray hooded robe, revealing a machete in a black sheath underneath.
“Heavy… but not too much to swing.”
Only these two items, sadly. I picked up the machete—way heavier, maybe twice my old one.
It’s slightly larger, but why so heavy?
My mana-boosted strength lets me swing it fine, though.
“Whoa, assassin spec?”
Drawing it, the black blade got me hyped.
“This… iron, I guess, but not normal iron.”
The black blade didn’t look painted. I scratched it with my old machete—no peeling.
“Black iron? Whatever, looks sturdy.”
I tried fixing my old machete to my backpack, but it’s cluttered with a wooden small shield, knives, and other chest loot. It’s bulky, but I roped it down to avoid snags.
I sheathed the new machete in my sword belt.
“What about the robe?”
Spreading it, it fit perfectly, but the cave isn’t cold.
Curious, I drew my dagger and slashed the robe’s edge.
“Cut-resistant, as expected.”
I figured a chest item wouldn’t be ordinary—it’s cut-resistant like my enhanced guard uniform.
That changes things. I equipped the robe for safety.
Chests keep giving me exactly what I need.
The first floor’s Guardian chest was like that—I wanted leather armor, and it had it, plus an iron small shield, a step up from my wooden round shield.
Now, a machete—not a sword or spear, but a machete.
Is the Succubus Queen watching? Giving Guardians’ slayers what they need? Or is it automated?
“Feels automated.”
The Succubus Queen’s too busy to monitor everyone’s moves or know when testers hit Guardians.
Next chest might have a spare small shield or more leather armor.
“Getting what I need is nice.”
These are 10,000–20,000 DP items if bought. Since unused gear can’t be sold, needed items are a blessing.
Alright, next floor.
I slung my backpack over the robe and opened the black gate.
Familiar cave walls greeted me.
“Another cave…”
I’m sick of this.
Grumbling, I passed through the gate.
