Dominate Another World with a Brainwashing Skill!? No, If Anyone Finds Out, I’ll Be Executed, So I’ll Live Honestly and Upright! - Chapter 74: Saintess Rosary
Chapter 74: Saintess Rosary
After Rosary finished giving us a full tour of the grand cathedral, we found ourselves in the tourist rest area, sipping tea while chatting about life at the Royal Academy.
“Oh my! So there’s going to be an inter-class competition next month? That sounds simply marvelous! I’d love to go and watch! Do you think it’s possible for outsiders to attend?”
“There should be a public viewing area, so I think you’ll be fine.”
“Wonderful! I’ll ask Sisley to make sure I don’t have any duties on that day!”
It seemed like Rosary had always admired the Royal Academy. She listened to Loug and me with wide, sparkling eyes, completely captivated by our stories. She mentioned earlier that she couldn’t enroll due to certain circumstances, but I wondered if it was because her skill wasn’t suited for combat…
I was curious, but asking why she couldn’t get into the academy would be way too insensitive. Besides, I wasn’t exactly in a position to talk, considering I faked my skill to get in…
“Hugh is amazing, you know! During the entrance exam, when he used his skill, flames just went whoosh all over the place!”
“Whoosh, you say? That sounds incredible! I’d love to see it! Could you perhaps demonstrate it right now?”
“The cathedral would burn to the ground…”
It seemed like Loug and Rosary had hit it off completely, chatting away excitedly. The two of them kept up a lively conversation, while I sat back and listened, occasionally chiming in to correct their more outlandish remarks. Their energy was just too much for me to keep up with.
After a while—
“There you are, Lady Rosary!”
A voice called out, and a young woman hurried toward us.
She looked to be in her early twenties, with neatly trimmed navy-blue hair styled into a short bob. Her sharp, amber-colored eyes and well-defined features gave her a composed and elegant appearance. She stood around 160 centimeters tall, wearing a white chest guard lined with red accents, and a sword hung at her waist.
She wasn’t a member of the Royal Knights, was she? It felt a little strange for someone to be carrying a sword inside the cathedral…
“Oh, Sisley! Perfect timing! Why don’t you join us? Sir Hugh and Sir Loug were just telling me all about the Royal Academy!”
“I appreciate the offer, but it’s time, Lady Rosary. You need to start preparing for your afternoon duties.”
“Oh dear, is it that time already? My apologies, Sir Hugh, Sir Loug. Unfortunately, I have some duties this afternoon that I simply cannot miss. I’m afraid I must excuse myself. Thank you ever so much for the delightful conversation.”
“Thanks to you too, Rosary! Do you think we’ll get to talk again sometime?”
“Of course! I’ll be staying at this cathedral for a while, so please feel free to visit anytime! I’d love to hear more about the Royal Academy!”
“Yeah! I’ll definitely come by again. See you, Rosary!”
“See you too, Sir Hugh!”
“Yeah, see you around.”
We waved back as Rosary energetically waved her hands and walked away. Her companion, Sisley, glanced back and gave us a polite nod, which I returned.
She seemed like Rosary’s attendant, but… who exactly was she?
“That person earlier… she was a Holy Knight, right?”
“A Holy Knight?”
“They’re the knights directly under the Church of Divine Gifts. We learned about them in history class, remember?”
“Ah… now that you mention it, I think I remember something about that…”
“Hugh~? You do realize that the midterm exams come before the inter-class competition, right? I don’t want to end up in a different class from you next year!”
“Ugh… I-I’ll do my best.”
At the Royal Academy, class assignments for the next year are based on overall academic performance. I barely managed to get into Class A during the entrance exams thanks to my skill performance, but there’s no guarantee that the same trick will work next year.
Loug, on the other hand, is ranked second in academics, right after Lily. Including her skill performance, she ranks third overall in the entire grade. She’s practically guaranteed to stay in Class A next year. If I want to stay in the same class as her, I’ll have to step up my game and actually study harder.
I wouldn’t like being in a different class from her either.
Anyway… Holy Knights, right? I was starting to remember what we learned about them in class.
“If I remember correctly, Holy Knights are the ones who protect key figures within the Church of Divine Gifts and guard religious ceremonies, right?”
“Yep, that’s right! And to add to that, they also deal with corruption within the Church and track down heretics. That’s why it’s a bit surprising to see Ms. Sisley following Rosary around so closely…”
“So Holy Knights are assigned to protect people who hold important roles in the Church, huh?”
“Yeah… So, who exactly did we just let guide us through the cathedral…?”
I shrugged at Loug’s puzzled expression and said, “Who knows…”
It’s not like I hadn’t considered the possibilities. She did mention that certain circumstances prevented her from enrolling in the Royal Academy. Maybe it wasn’t that her skill didn’t meet the requirements—maybe there was another reason entirely. If that’s the case, then Rosary might actually be…
“Well, she introduced herself as just an ordinary nun. Whatever her real identity is, I think she doesn’t want us to treat her any differently.”
“Yeah, you’re right! I’m really looking forward to talking with Rosary again.”
Loug brought her hands together in front of her mouth and smiled warmly. She must have really enjoyed their conversation.
Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to visit the cathedral again on our next day off. Since Rosary said she’d be staying here for a while, we’d probably get the chance to see her again.
