Chapter 12: Apparently, Copy Abilities and Growth Values Are Insane!
When the light subsided, we found ourselves in a town square with a medieval European-style townscape. The nearby passersby didn’t seem startled by our sudden appearance.
“Oh, Mom, it’s a hero! So cool! When I grow up, I wanna be a hero too!”
A child shopping with his mother in the square exclaimed joyfully upon seeing me in my uniform.
I wondered about the appropriateness of this high-collared student-like uniform as a heroic outfit, but if it’s popular with the kids, shouldn’t I wear it? Even though it has quite some flashy decorations on the shoulders…
“Here, in this world, dispatched heroes are respected figures among the people. Among them, Japanese heroes are especially admired as highly skilled individuals, so please refrain from any actions that might undermine the trust built by your predecessors.”
“Yes, I’ll work hard to uphold the honor of the hero’s name.”
“Good. Now, let’s check our position and the quest target location on the map. You can do that by opening the menu and selecting ‘Map’. When you haven’t accepted a quest, it will only show your current location. Go ahead and check.”
As instructed by Eskaia, I opened the map. It showed our current location as “Farme Village, Kingdom of Eroxsaltim,” and the quest target’s location was “E10052 Magic Zone Management Area” three kilometers south.
Using kilometers for distance measurements might be due to Japan’s request, but it’s quite helpful nonetheless.
“The quest target is located three kilometers south in the ‘E10052 Magic Zone Management Area.'”
“Okay, then all that’s left is to walk there. It’s good exercise, isn’t it?”
Thus, we walked for about 20 minutes and reached our destination, the ‘E10052 Magic Zone Management Area.’ There were no houses around this area, just a dense grove of trees in a forest, though the visibility was somewhat clear.
Finally, my first “Vermin Extermination”… I-I’m nervous…
“We’re here! Shoma, ready your weapon.”
As Eskaia, who had been leading the way, drew her sword, I did the same. The sword provided was about 70 centimeters long, with a decent weight but not too heavy.
As the undergrowth rustled, several green blobs emerged. Suddenly, the displays stored within them automatically unfolded upon recognizing the green objects we saw.

Green Slime
Monster Level 1
Vermin Type: Slime
HP: 15 | MP: 5 | Attack: 12
Defense: 8 | Agility: 6
Magic Power: 6 | Magic Defense: 8
Skills: Blunt Resistance

—
With the activation of the “God’s Eye” skill, these monsters were automatically appraised. One of them lunged at me.
Whoa! Surprisingly agile, isn’t it?
Trying to dodge, I accidentally touched the Green Slime, and a new prompt appeared on the display.
—
> Copy Blunt Resistance? Y/N
—
Not fully understanding, I chose YES for now. As a result, my MP decreased, and the skill “Blunt Resistance” was added to my skill list. Wow… Can I also copy skills from vermin?
While I was shaken by the newly acquired skill, Eskaia scolded me.
“Shoma! Don’t let your guard down! You can assign magic to shortcuts. Just say ‘Magic’. Then select the magic you want to use from the list. It will ask if you want to assign it to a shortcut. Now, do it quickly.”
Eskaia, who had a high level, mostly ignored the attacks from the Green Slime. Following her instructions, I said “Magic” and selected “Fire Arrow,” the weakness of the Green Slime.
A target site appeared in front of me, turning red when overlapped with the Green Slime. With a sensation of something leaving my body, a fiery arrow shot out toward the Green Slime. Upon hitting, it burned and immobilized the Slime. The remaining two Slimes were also exterminated with the same fire arrow.
As we defeated the trio, my body emitted a white light.

Eskaia, who saw the display, collapsed to the ground, looking lost at my stats.
“Hold on… Hero potential ‘SSS’ is too extreme… I’ve become the instructor for an incredibly outstanding individual… HP and MP increased by 2000 each…? and all status values by 200… Unbelievable growth values… This is the power of ‘SSS’… It’s overwhelming…”
“N-no, it’s because of me… I’m sorry…”
Touching Eskaia, who was crestfallen, my skill activated again.
Huh? It didn’t activate in the cathedral though… Is it because we’re outside? Or is it because we’ve accepted a quest?

Apart from the skills that overlap with Eskaia’s, there’s a prompt for copying these individual skills. Let’s go with MP Increase for now. I’ve got enough MP to spare. With each selection, my MP decreased significantly. But I managed to successfully copy all the skills.
It consumed quite a bit of MP, but with the “MP Increase” skill, I’ve surpassed the 6000 mark. Now, I can use some advanced magic too.
“Eskaia, are you okay?”
“Oh, uh, yes. I’m fine. After two more level-ups, You’ll already be surpassing me… Oh my… Phew…”
“No, I absolutely lack experience, so I’ll still need your guidance in the future. I’m counting on you.”
“Really? Well, if you say so… Then, let me give you some additional explanation about the magic we just used. Shortcut magic allows you to set eight spells that respond to the user’s consciousness and can be activated instantly by consuming MP. If you set other spells besides those, you’ll need to search from the menu to use them. So, it’s better not to swap them out during combat, given the split-second decision-making that’s required in battle.”
“I understand.”
While listening to her explanation, I set the eight spells with the increased MP. “Inferno Storm,” “Ice Brid Storm,” “Cutting Wind Blast,” “Grand Knock,” “Super Nova,” “Dark Hole,” “Area All Recover,” and “Area Extend Heal.” It’s a set of high-powered offensive and healing magic that I can use with my current MP.
“I’ve set them up.”
“Okay. Also, each magic has a cooldown after use, and the more MP consumed, the longer the cooldown. So, keep that in mind.”
“Got it.”
“My abilities… are nothing compared to the super hero, Shoma-kun… Even though I have a B-rank aptitude…” (´;ω;`) (Eskaia)
