Chapter 11: First Field Training
“I can’t believe he only brought clothes and personal belongings… Shoma-kun sure is decisive… or rather… and to think his father is…”
“I didn’t know Shoma-kun is the son of that Director Hiiragi from the Foreign Ministry’s Interdimensional Information Division… Since we’ve received various favors from your father before, I’ll make sure to express my gratitude properly next time. As your father said, the secret agreement with Japan was granted in consideration of our wishes. While we do want heroes desperately, we don’t wish for an influx of people from another world suddenly appearing.”
After placing his belongings in the one-room apartment that would be his home starting today, they flew from the company to the Elkhrust Cathedral with President Claude. During this time, he questioned President Claude about what Shoma’s father had said yesterday.
So, what my old man said was true after all… It seems that Japan and Elkhrust both accepted keeping their interactions a secret from the public.
“That’s why I’m telling you, keep our business matters from our world as confidential as possible. If you blabber too much, those scary guys from Public Security will come and take you away. HAHAHA.”
President Claude might be joking, but his appearance and words made me sure that they’d follow through with it.
“Y-Yes, I understand. I won’t speak a word about it. My father emphasized the same thing as well, so please be assured.”
“You’re both here. President Claude, make sure to pay your respects to the big shots in the organization.”
“Yes, yes. I’ll make sure to get permission to enter the organization’s management area. And make sure you receive combat training from Eskaia properly, alright?”
“Yes, thank you for your consideration. I’ll do my best.”
With that, President Claude waved his hand and walked away to another location.
“Shoma-kun, from now on, we’ll be starting field training together. For now, just leave your uniform here. We could only prepare a stock sword and uniform for now, but you should be able to acquire the equipment you desire before the entrance ceremony, so let us know by the time we return. Well then, I’ll go change as well.”
Eskaia disappeared into the women’s locker room located in the back left corner of the room. It seemed like this area was the changing room for the uniforms. They were divided into male and female sections, they also had shower rooms and were equipped with training equipment like a fitness club at the back. I entered the changing room on the right-hand side and saw a white stand-up collar uniform which somewhat resembled a school uniform and a sword, and began changing.
After putting on the stand-up collar uniform, I returned to the spot where I was before, wearing a faint grass-colored dress-like garment with silver-like breastplates and shoulder guards, leather gauntlets and boots, a small sword at the waist, and a bow and quiver on the back. Eskaia looked just like an elf from a fantasy novel.
Wow, it really does suit her. Her business attire is good don’t get me wrong, but this uniform suits her just as well. As expected of Eskaia.
“Ah, sorry for being late. Did you have trouble with the sword?”
“N-No, it wasn’t that difficult. By the way, you look really cool in that outfit. Just as I expected from Eskaia.”
“Eh!? D-Don’t compliment me for no reason.”
“No, seriously, you look just like an elf from a fantasy novel.”
Eskaia suddenly blushed and started to look embarrassed, which made me want to compliment her even more.
“If Eskaia were to go to Comic Market in that outfit, she’d get scouted instantly and make her debut in showbiz.”
Eskaia, who started to fidget and worry about her clothes, was flustered at my remarks.
“I-It’s not like I’m imitating elves from that world or anything. It’s just that this suits my taste, so I tried making it. I-I don’t have an interest in cosplay or anything like that.”
From her flustered expression, it seemed like she wanted to say, “I saw the elves in light novels, and their outfits were so cool that I tried cosplaying as one.”
But it suits her, so it’s fine. With her slender limbs, fair skin, blonde ponytail, and emerald double-eyes, she’s a genuine elf, so it’s okay to call her a professional.
“It suits you.”
“Shoma-kun! Don’t tease your elders! Enough chatting now. We’re starting field training now. Today, we’ll practice the main task, ‘Extermination of Vermin.'”
From a face red with embarrassment, Eskaia quickly changed into a career woman mode.
I think both versions of Eskaia are great…
“Are you listening? Try muttering ‘Quest’ from the open menu.”
As instructed, I muttered ‘Quest’, and the display unfolded, showing the quests.
“Okay. The quests are distributed by the organization to heroes and support staff according to their ranks based on requests received from various places. If you decline a request, tap the × button just like a call, and it will be reassigned to some other staff. But be careful, as repeated refusals will affect your rank assessment, and worst case scenario, you might even be fired. Now, tap on the displayed quest. We should have one prepared by the organization for training purposes.”
Following Eskaia’s instructions, I tapped on the quest labeled ‘Urgent.’
<Urgent Quest: ‘Multiple-Headed Fire Dragon Hydra Subjugation’ has been accepted.>
“I’ve accepted the quest. What should I do next?”
“Then, let’s ‘Jump’ to the nearest gate where the quest target is located. Here, hero movements are mainly teleportation. Walking or using horses is only for escort requests. Tap the accepted quest displayed, and we’ll teleport. Be careful with accidental teleports though, as people within the range of the magic circle will teleport together.”
“Understood. I’ll be careful. Alright, I’ll teleport.”
After being warned by Eskaia, I made sure no one except her was around before tapping on the accepted quest. A magic circle similar to the one when we came from the company appeared on the floor, enveloping me in a dazzling particle of light.
Um, I feel like there was something different about the request they received…
Hey! Who’s the idiot who sent an urgent quest?! Shoma’s only Level 1! Immediately contact him through the call and summon him back! (President Claude)
Sorry! We entered the wilderness, so our calls won’t go through! What should we do? (Organization Staff)
What do we do… Eskaia alone won’t be able to handle it. (President Claude)
I-I’ll urgently send a rescue request to any other available team! (Organization Staff)
