- Chap 10 - The Clash of Sects: Caroline's Dilemma
Caroline went to her sect right away after Rosaline glared at her.
Caroline had never seen anything more scary than that look. Not even the threat of the big sects had scared her that much.
I can’t mess with that girl at all, but…Master Sorah is such a catch. He’s kind, handsome, and strong, Caroline sighed like a girl in love.
“Master, do you think we’ll be able to go back to Master Sorah’s sect soon?” A little red-haired girl asked.
She was Airi, the youngest member of Caroline’s sect. Before she trained with Sorah, she hadn’t improved at all, but now that she has, she is one of the strongest members of the sect.
‘See…’ Caroline tried to think of something to say, but she couldn’t because she was in the middle of her delirium.
“Master. I don’t want to be rude, but our sect is so poor. I want to live in Master Sorah’s sect, and he also looked at you with passionate eyes. Why don’t we join our sects?”
“He was?” Caroline’s face flushed red when Airi asked her a question. She didn’t even hear the crux of the question because she was so focused on the fact that Airi mentioned Master Sorah may also like her.
“Maybe… But why can’t we join our sects?”
After a month in Sorah’s sect, Airi could see the difference. While the other members trained with cheap materials, Master Sorah trained with materials from the divine world. Even the beds she slept in helped her mama.
The artwork in the garden was so pure it defied description.
Even the most basic of the paintings seemed to be alive, and their collective aura could rival that of the city’s most influential sect master.
The painting techniques they learned from Master Sorah helped them grow physically powerful, but not to the point where they could replicate any of the artworks on display in the garden.
He even provided them with brushes that were more valuable than their religion. (A/N: The protagonist painted most of the artwork in the garden, but not all of them.)
“I would also like us to unite our sect, but it’s not possible right now because of how different we are. Master Sorah’s sect is thought to be the most promising in the last few decades, while ours is, how can I put it?—”
“—The weakest of all.” Caroline felt embarrassed as she said that.
The practice of combining sects was common knowledge, and it was done for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:
There were originally two related sects working toward the same goal; when they merged into a single sect, the two sects had to have similar power, which was not the case here.
The second time was a smaller sect merging with a larger one, but in order for that to happen, the smaller sect needed to have either interesting potential or a strong relationship with the larger one; Caroline’s sect neither had nor wanted to take advantage of Sorah’s sect’s goodwill.
Airi tried to argue, “But, Master, we would be one of the largest sects.”
“Listen, my young lady, Master Sorah has already given us a lot of guidance. If we want to go along with him, we have to prove that we are more than just a sect that is taking advantage of him, so that in the future he can catch us as a sect that acts on his orders,” Caroline tried to sound convincing, even though she agreed with Airi.
If Caroline could, they would already be part of Sorah’s sect. She would be Sorah’s second wife, since Rosalina was already his first wife, and Caroline wouldn’t dare challenge her, especially after that scary look of hers.
“But, Master, aren’t we already strong?” After the time she spent training with Sorah, Airi was confident in her strength.
“Yes, you’re strong young lady, but not strong enough. Have you seen Rosalina? She’s already incredibly strong, but she still works hard. Do you know why?”
Airi gave a firm nod.
“Even she doesn’t think she’s strong enough to be in Sorah’s sect. She knows she needs to train a lot more, even though she’s already been training for months. If you or anyone else gets the idea that we don’t need to train, we’ll never be able to merge our sects.” With that line, Caroline got everyone’s attention.
All the girls in the sect agreed. (A/N: Her sect is made up of only women.)
Baruuuuuuuum!
The conversation was interrupted by a loud crash from the entrance of the sect, which was then followed by a tall muscular man. “Hey, if it isn’t the Golden Rose Sect girls, you finally came back to die.” (A/N: He used the wrong name for their sect to insult them, even if it was in a childish way.)
