Top Secret
Author’s Preface:
The previous chapter was a little too pretty, so this one contains much raunchier material. It doesn’t matter much to the main plot, so feel free to skip it if that’s not your thing.

Shiina Bookstore.
It had a tiny non-adult section up front, barely ten tatami mats at most — almost like camouflage.
18+ Area Beyond This Point
Once you stepped past the laughably flimsy curtain, the place opened up.
Everything beyond that was R-18. Shelves packed tight with every kind of item you could imagine.
For some people, it was a utopia.
For me, too, of course.
“…”
I gave a small bow from my spot at the R-18 register.
In this shop, there was no need to greet customers. I wore a mask, supposedly for infection prevention. Questionable customer service, maybe. But this place wasn’t “normal” to begin with.
That was part of why I liked it.
The moment I heard voices daring each other to go in, I could tell they were probably students from a girls’ high school.
Young girls full of curiosity and desire, stepping into a place they shouldn’t.
Wonderful.
As if I’d ever warn them off.
Once inside, they went quiet fast. That earned them a big youth bonus in my book. If they got too loud, I’d have to throw them out, after all.
They probably wouldn’t buy anything. Still, they’d shown me a good scene, so I let it pass.
Then there was the opposite type. An older couple — maybe husband and wife — openly flirting while browsing the goods section.
Good for them, honestly. They were completely in their own little world.
People like that rarely bought much, though. They looked like big spenders, but they usually weren’t. If I had to guess, they were here to hype each other up before some fresh and awkward act waiting for them afterward.
At that point, wasn’t this basically foreplay?
Minus one hundred points.
I didn’t care about sales all that much. If a place like this ever started selling out constantly, I’d start worrying about the neighborhood.
Still, I knew what kind of customer mattered most. Not the flashy one-time buyers who came in, spent hard, and left.
No.
The important customers were the ones who came back on a regular basis.
Subscribers were king. The same reason adult websites pushed memberships so hard.
And one customer in particular always came at the perfect time.
Weekend evenings. Around seven to nine.
“!”
I bowed the moment I saw him.
“Oh. Hey.”
The regular customer I valued more than anyone else in the shop.
If I had to describe him in a phrase: light and shadow. Like an erotic item painted in classical oils.
A simple black spring jacket with the sleeves pushed up. A white shirt underneath, just thin enough to hint at toned muscle. Hair set neatly with wax. A faint trace of perfume.
And then his eyes.
Beautiful. Dangerous. Swallowing.
Moonlike.
If he looked at a woman like that in bed, she’d turn into a wolf.
An adult boy. There wasn’t a person alive who hated that combination.
The curious schoolgirls squeaked the instant he walked past them. Just by seeing him, they understood what kind of place this really was.
Yes. Those girls were definitely coming back someday.
Even the older woman from the flirting couple stared without thinking.
Well, fair enough.
“I’d like to check out.”
“…Certainly.”
Inside his basket:
five boxes of condoms,
a large pack of lube,
and a case of sleep drink.
He always came straight to the register with zero hesitation. His time in the store was incredibly short. Once I finished ringing him up, he probably wouldn’t return for another two or three weeks.
As an employee, that made him a dream customer.
“Um…”
“Yes?”
I never did this normally. But if I could turn a valued customer into an even more valued customer —
“P-points…”
“Points?”
“My apologies. Would you be interested in making a point card? You use this store often, so…”
He blinked. That was a look I’d never seen from him before.
“Ah… not sure.”
Was he troubled? That stirred something in me.
“No, it’s okay. I’ll use these right away.”
He wasn’t like the first time I’d seen him, all easy confidence. He looked more like a high school girl who had wandered into the R-18 section and didn’t know what to do.
“I don’t really have anything like that on me, so it’s fine.”
“…Understood.”
“Sorry, after you went to the trouble of asking.”
“Not at all. But just to confirm —”
This was age verification. That was all. Not because I was curious.
I would never pry into a customer’s private information for my own selfish interest.
Certainly not.
“— You’re not a minor, are you?”
In that quiet shop, our eyes met.
“…Would this count as proof?”
The moment he slowly held it out, I felt like I was being swallowed.
A flashy black-and-pink card. A membership card for a love hotel.
And not just any membership card.
Gold.
I had no idea how many visits it took to earn that rank. I was still a virgin, after all. But I knew the place. A hotel a little away from the nearest station. A place where countless acts had happened on those beds.
“I’m glad you know the place.”
“…Excuse me. That will be 3,100 yen.”
“Here.”
Just like always, he tucked it away as if nothing had happened and packed the condoms, drink, and lube into his bag.
I knew perfectly well that a love hotel membership card wasn’t legal age identification. But no matter how hard I tried, those words wouldn’t come out. There was a pressure about him that refused them.
“Would you like a paper bag?”
“No thanks.”
“Understood. Here’s your receipt.”
I handed it over. He turned away.
“Thanks.”
“We look forward to seeing you again.”
“Oh, and one more thing.”
“Yes?”
“Thanks for always being here. This really is a good shop.”
“Ah… no, not at all…”
“Haha. See you.”
Then he slipped back out through the curtain.
“…Ahh.”
If it had been anyone else, they might’ve missed it.
In the card holder he’d opened, tucked just behind the hotel card, something else had shown for a brief moment. Blue and black patterning. The words Tsukigaoka. Part of a birthdate.
That had definitely been —
I let out a strange little laugh behind my mask.
Goodness. You really shouldn’t peek at customers’ personal information like that.
“So he’s a high schooler…”
I whispered it where nobody could hear. His classmates probably didn’t know. His parents probably didn’t know. Maybe not even the girls he’d slept with knew.
“Maybe I’m the only one…”
Pleasure surged through my brain.
Honestly, this was basically sex.
“Heh.”
“E-excuse me… I’d like to buy this…”
“Ah, sorry. Right away.”
And just like that, I returned to my normal work. Night deepened. Golden time was only just beginning.
Even so, my own peak had already ended.
People said customers were gods. Personally, I preferred men sexier than gods.
“Thanks for always being here. This really is a good shop.”
…
Maybe next time we could talk a little more. Wouldn’t it be nice if two weeks passed already?

“Yeah… I’m switching stores.”
