- Chapter 46: First Day at School
“School, huh…”
Two days ago, I was a virgin. Yesterday, I became a “slut”.
Was that an upgrade or a downgrade? No, definitely a downgrade.
After a whirlwind couple of days—today had finally arrived.
“A ribbon on the uniform, really…”
It was late August.
Today was the first day of school after summer vacation.
Normally, this would be the day when everyone buzzed about how much their classmates had changed over the break, but for me, it might as well have been my first day.
I didn’t know any of them, after all.
Worse still, I wasn’t confident I’d be able to have a normal conversation in this world.
Not that I had a choice but to go.
“Agh, I really don’t wanna go…”
“Yawn… Sora-nii, you’re wearing your uniform?”
“Yeah, I have to go to school, after all. Akari, want to come with me?”
“I-I’d like to, but…”
“Haha, just kidding. By the way, do you know what kind of friends I had?”
Without a phone, I couldn’t just check the message app to see my contacts or anything like that.
[Uh… contact information?]
[Sorry, my phone’s broken right now.]
[Oh… I see…]
That was how yesterday had ended with Yuuka and the others. I never exchanged contact info with them, leaving things on a bit of an awkward note.
Well, it wasn’t like they’d want to meet up again anyway. I was a slut now.
“Huh? Didn’t you just meet them yesterday?”
“Ah, no, I meant other friends. Other friends!”
“…Stare…”
“Haha. Do you know if I even have guy friends? I mean, someone like me?”
What was I doing? I was digging myself into a hole.
I hurriedly made a joke about Old Sora to change the subject.
“Old Sora-nii talked to people on the phone a lot, so… maybe you do have friends?”
“Ah, yeah. He was good at pretending to be nice. What a trashy guy.”
“Haha, this feels so weird.”
Was that self-deprecating? I wasn’t sure, but at least I’d managed to sidestep the topic.
For now, I was lumping Yuuka and the others into the “friends” category. Sorry, Yuuka.
…I really didn’t want Akari to hate me.
If she found out her big brother was a slut, she’d never come near me again.

Slide
The school was exactly where I remembered it.
Same building, same classroom—1-B.
And yet—
“I don’t recognize any of these faces…”
I muttered to myself.
In this classroom, none of my familiar classmates from the old world were here.
[If Sora’s heading there, maybe I’ll go too!]
I remembered my conversations with my old clubmates from middle school.
But if sports were reversed here, then that connection didn’t exist either.
In a way, it was a relief.
If those guys had shown up, like how my “parents” were both the same but not the same… it would’ve been tough to deal with.
“Oh, hey, Sora! Long time no see!”
“…Ah, yeah. Morning.”
“What?? By the way, we never got any messages from you. Did something happen?”
The moment I stepped inside, someone called out to me.
It was a guy.
He had dyed brown hair with a girly hairpin. He looked totally flashy.
“…About that, I hit my head and lost my memory.”
“Wait, ‘I’(ore)? And what’s with the way you’re talking? That’s hilarious!”
What was with this guy? It wasn’t funny at all.
Was he, like, a male gyaru?
He clapped his hands as he laughed—a laugh that made me feel completely disconnected from him.
“Where’s my seat?”
“What, you really lost your memory? That’s hilarious!”
“…Look, I just want to put my bag down. Can you tell me where it is?”
“Hey, Shuuhei! Sora said he lost his memory. Isn’t that hilarious?!”
“…”
Just tell me where my seat is, you flashy idiot! This isn’t funny!!
My head was starting to ache.
“Wait, Sora, is that true?”
“Apparently it is! He keeps saying ‘I’. It’s seriously too funny!”
The flashy guy called over his friend.
Was this Grand Cross? Could I cast it on these guys? (T/N: It’s either referring to Grand cross skill from Dragon quest or I do not know)
“Can you just tell me where my seat is?”
“Wow, seriously, you’re acting so weird. You’re like a completely different person.”
“Yeah, yeah. I hit my head in the bath and lost my memory, so… could you just tell me?”
“Seriously?!”
“That’s hilarious!”
“…Ugh…”
I wanted to go home already.
Why was I stuck standing near the entrance? Could someone just tell me where my seat was?
“Is that really Sato?”
“He seems so different.”
“Something about losing his memory…”
I could hear the murmurs of my classmates as they stared at me.
What was I, some kind of rare animal? I wasn’t an okapi!
Old me, could we trade places just for now? Probably not, huh…
“Wait… isn’t that the girl from yesterday?”
“Whoa, why is he here?!”
“Let’s go!”
Looking around, I spotted one of the girls from the arcade—the one who ran off the moment our eyes met.
Turned out, she was my classmate.
“Oh, there it is.”
Ignoring the two flashy guys, I made my way to the teacher’s desk.
There was a seating chart with everyone’s names on it. You know, the kind of thing teachers used.
Let’s see… I had a window seat in the back row.
Nice spot, but… crap, I was sitting next to that girl. Poor her.
“…”
She was reading a book.
She had messy bobbed black hair and wore black-rimmed glasses.
The book had a cover on it, so I couldn’t tell what it was.
It didn’t look like her friend from yesterday was around either.
“Oh, well…”
Not wanting to disturb her, I quietly hooked my bag onto the desk and looked out the window at the towering cumulonimbus clouds.
“Hey, Sora! Don’t just wander off like that!”
“Lost your memory? Does that mean you forgot about us?”
“Ah… yeah, I don’t remember. I don’t remember any of you.”
The flashy guys had followed me back. Could you not? I was finally catching a break.
“What?!”
“That’s crazy!”
They covered their mouths with their hands as they gasped dramatically.
Was that supposed to look cute? Because it didn’t.
“Then… what about her?”
One of the guys pointed at the girl reading her book.
She immediately frowned, clearly annoyed.
“Yo, Kumagawa, what are you reading?”
“C’mon, let us see!”
“Huh? Wait, stop—”
Before I could stop him, the other guy grabbed her book.
A bookmark fluttered to the ground.
“Whoa, gross.”
“What is this? You’re still into this kind of stuff?”
“Ah… give it back…”
“Seriously, such an otaku.”
“Is it because no one in real life pays attention to you?”
The book was ‘Soul World Chronicles’.
It was the same one I’d started yesterday.
The page they opened to showed an illustration of the male “heroine” in a tattered yukata, being held by the female protagonist.
What volume was this? Oh, Volume 5. What the heck happened in this one?
“Stop it, you two.”
“Whoa!”
“What’s your problem?!”
They’d spoiled me, but I didn’t care.
I snatched the book back from the flashy guys.
They weren’t strong at all—did they even lift?
“Here. I stuck the bookmark back in the right place.”
“Ah… thanks…”
I brushed off the bookmark, placed it back into the book, and handed it to her.
Her expression was a mix of confusion and fear.
Yeah, she didn’t like me. Not surprising.
I thought I could talk to her, but… guess not.
“What’s with you? You’re still Sora, aren’t you?”
“Losing your memory doesn’t mean—”
“Hey.”
I already knew.
In this screwed-up world, there was no way I could get along with people who were friends with Old Sora.
“Sorry. But I’m not the ‘Sora Sato’ you guys know anymore.”
“W-what?!”
“Gross. Let’s go, Shuuhei. This guy’s weird!”
With that, they left.
Finally, some peace and quiet.
“…”
The classroom had fallen silent.
Could the bell just ring already?

in this chapter MC is kind of annoying, you can’t expect people to accept you if you can’t accept them either
Ah yes people that just made fun of you constantly and couldn’t even tell you were your seat was, in a world where everything you knew is wrong, and you are spiraling into depression. Yes lets accept those people, easy peasy lemon squeezy. I swear people have the empathy of a broken toothpick
