- Chapter 38: Transfer to Another World
“I just wanna lose my virginity already!!”
On the way home from club activities, one of my close friends blurted it out.
“I mean, anyone would do, right? That’s awful, isn’t it? It’s because I say stuff like this that I’m still a virgin!”
“I’d even take an older bitchy woman! I’d beg on my hands and knees if I have to!!”
“Still… I’ll probably stay a virgin until I die, huh?”
He laughed as if he had already given up.
“…If I were a girl, I’d help you lose it,” I joked with a wry smile.
“Eugh, quit it! Gross! I’m not into guys, okay!?”
“Relax, I was kidding, you hopeless virgin.”
“That joke just took 10 years off my life! I’m dead!!”
“Oh my god…”
“Although, if I die, maybe I’ll get sent to one of those flipped-society worlds where being a virgin is treated like being pure or something.”
“Huh? What kind of nonsense is that?”
“You don’t know? It’s this genre I’ve been super into lately—it’s called ‘the reversed chastity concept’—”
A distant memory.
Just your average, silly daydreaming discussion.
That was all it was… or so I thought.
****
First year of high school.
It was summer break.
Tired from club activities, I collapsed into bed.
And then—
“…?!”
In the middle of what felt like a dream, I experienced the sensation of riding a violent rollercoaster in total darkness.
My vision spun wildly, and sharp pain shot through me.
When I woke up—
“!!!”
“Oh, you’re awake! Sora!”
The walls around me were stark white.
When I touched my head, I felt bandages.
An IV drip was attached to my arm.
“…What the hell?”
But none of that mattered.
What mattered was––
“Who… are you people?”
“…Huh?”
The people surrounding me in the hospital room.
At first glance, they vaguely resembled my mom and dad.
But something was off.
For one, my mom wouldn’t wear a suit like that.
And my dad… wait, what was with his skin? It was so smooth.
And was that… powder? Was he wearing makeup?
Did work stress finally make him snap?
There was also a middle school-aged girl glaring at me with an annoyed expression.
She was small, with a ponytail tied back by a black ribbon, and sharp, narrow eyes that practically screamed, I hate you.
I could immediately tell—she despised me.
Who the hell was she?
“This has got to be a dream! Yeah, I’m definitely dreaming!”
That explanation was the only thing that made sense in this incomprehensible scenario.
What a weird dream to have.
“…Ow…”
Even so, when I pinched my cheek, it hurt.
Wait. Did this mean I could feel pain even in dreams? That was the worst.
No, hold on. If I was injured, then wouldn’t this mess up my club activities––
“––Huh!?”
I threw off the pure white blanket covering me.
What I saw beneath it were legs that clearly belonged to someone who didn’t exercise.
Gone were the muscles I’d worked so hard to build, replaced by soft, squishy thighs.
And now that I noticed… my body did feel heavier.
Right.
I was going to pretend I didn’t see that.
“S-Sora…”
The voices of the people around me grated on my nerves.
It sounded the same… but also, it didn’t.
“You’re not about to tell me that you’re my parents or something, are you?”
“…!”
“I-I’ll go get the doctor—”
“––No. Answer me.”
“!!!”
They flinched at my words, startled every time I spoke.
It was obnoxious. Irritating.
As if they were rejecting the very idea of ‘me’.
“Why do you keep saying ‘I’, ‘I’? Sora, what’s wrong with you?” (T/N: Sora uses Ore)
“I don’t know. We need to get him looked at by the doctor immediately…”
“Maybe he hit his head, and now he has amnesia…?”
“…Hey…”
“I’m sure that’s it. The doctor said there weren’t any abnormalities in his brain, but––”
“We should have him checked again right away––”
“––I said, answer my question!!”
“Eek!”
“S-Sorry, Sora. We’re just as confused as you are…”
“…Sorry. I didn’t mean to yell.”
This entire situation made no sense.
Listening to them scramble around without giving me any straight answers had just pissed me off.
But… my dad would never get scared like that.
We’d argued plenty of times before!
So why the hell was he acting so shy, hiding his face behind his arms like a girl!?
“I-I’m Nozomi Sato. Your mother.”
“And I-I’m Wataru Sato. Your father…”
“I… uh, thanks for clarifying. And you?”
“Are you seriously asking that, Sora-nii?”
“Don’t be rude, Akari!”
“I’m dead serious. Can you tell me?”
“…I’m your sister! What’s with you all of a sudden!?”
“…I see.”
My head throbbed painfully as I tried to process this.
The names matched, but there was one glaring issue.
I didn’t have a sister.
What the hell was this?
Was I in another world? A parallel universe?
This insane world made no sense! The only explanation was that I was dreaming!
“Stop screwing with me, dammit…”
I looked up at the ceiling in frustration. My thoughts were a complete mess.
…Well. Might as well say it, for the meme.
“…This isn’t my ceiling…” (Late realization)
The room fell silent.
The atmosphere was almost like a wake.
“…”
Right. That joke totally bombed.
Hurry up and wake me up already! This stupid dream sucked!!
