Chapter 2: Assessing the Situation
This world is the game called Mistlutin Imperial Chronicles.
It is a novel game, and at times you fight through wars or adventures.
The protagonist is an illegitimate child of a baron’s family, but thanks to his natural cheerfulness, he becomes friends with the crown prince and the main characters.
Then, together they save the country in a classic story.
And… the one in front of me is the villainess Yulia, who had her engagement broken by the crown prince.
I won her at the auction, and now she stands before me with the slave mark applied and her chains removed.
“………”
“Why not say something?”
If you stare at me like that, it makes me embarrassed!
What is this!? A cool-type beautiful girl is totally my strike zone!
Contrary to my heart, Alvis’s tone stays stiff.
It seems changing years of speaking habits is impossible.
“Why did you buy me?”
“What do you think is the reason?”
Then, she glares sharply at me.
Yes, this! This strong-willed feeling is what I love!
She is just like a female knight… I really am a pervert.
“…Do you plan to humiliate me? The same way Lord Guftaf would.”
“Hmph, do not lump me in with that scum.”
I would never do that to my favorite!
No! Alvis’s actions up to now have been bad!
This man Alvis has never done anything cruel to women, but he fully embodies arrogance.
He thinks he is the greatest and looks down on everyone else… or at least he did.
“…Is that so?”
“Yes, I simply ruined that fellow’s plan because I dislike him.”
“Then what do you intend to do with me?”
…What should I do? I had not thought about it at all.
In the story, she gets humiliated by Lord Guftaf and eventually takes her own life.
To begin with, the moment she became a slave, her house was ruined, and you could say the Forseti marquess family is destroyed.
In other words, Yulia has nowhere to go.
“Let me ask instead. What do you want?”
“What I want… I have never thought about that.”
“Then think about it. Until then, stay at my mansion.”
“…You are a strange person.”
She says that and shows a puzzled look.
If anything, I am the one who is puzzled.
For now, I take her back to my mansion.
Then, the head butler Sebas hurries over.
“Young master Alvis! I told you so many times not to go to the slave auction!”
“Quiet, you are as noisy as ever. I will not go again, so relax.”
“What do you mean by that? …Oh, the lady behind you… could it be.”
“Come on, introduce yourself.”
When I urge her, she tilts her head curiously.
And that slightly annoyed look in her eyes is perfect… I really am a pervert.
“…May I speak without permission?”
“Of course. To begin with, you do not need my permission.”
“…Understood. I am late in introducing myself. My name is… Yulia.”
“It really is Lady Yulia.”
“I no longer need to be called lady. I have lost my family name and become a slave.”
Then, the light fades from her eyes.
Oh no, she remembered her situation.
…Maybe I should just go with the flow here.
“Yorba! Are you there!”
“Yes, yes, young master, I am right here.”
“Do not call me young master.”
“Young master will always be young master to me, no matter how much time passes.”
The one who appears from the stairs is an old woman nearing sixty, named Yorba.
She is Sebas’s wife and also the head maid who takes care of me.
Since I have almost no contact with my real family, these two are naturally like family to me.
“Good grief… Do whatever you want.”
“Oh my, you usually push back more…”
“Quiet. Anyway, clean this woman up nicely.”
“Hehe, if that is the case, I will gladly. Young lady, this way please.”
“Eh? B-but…”
“Just go.”
I push her back gently and leave the rest to Yorba.
Yulia nods, still confused, and follows Yorba.
Then… Sebas directs a sharp gaze at me.
“What do you plan to do?”
“It is obvious. I will place Yulia under my protection.”
“So you will not treat her as a slave?”
“Of course. I will not allow anyone who would do that.”
She has already received punishment… and to begin with, even that punishment is vague.
If anyone tries to hurt her further, that person is my enemy.
Then, Sebas grabs both my shoulders.
“…Young master! I am deeply moved!”
“Uh, yeah?”
“I have known her since she was a child! She is absolutely not the type to do anything dishonorable! You saw through that and now placed her under your protection! And to avoid unnecessary conflict, you chose this timing… Brilliant!”
“I-I see.”
“Yes! If you had intervened before or after the engagement was broken, it could have split the country! When did you come up with such a plan… Wait, could it be that?”
He seems convinced somehow, even though I do not really understand.
For me, it is simply because I just regained my memories earlier.
Actually, I have not fully grasped the situation myself.
The one thing I can say is that I will protect her… yes, no matter who the opponent is.
“Well, something like that. Now, I have things to do… You know what it is, right?”
“Of course, sir. But let me help…”
“No, you stay with them. Now… I will go deal with the nuisance.”
I leave the rest to Sebas and exit the mansion.

I like the way MC talks, with confidence and doesn’t stutter like a bumbling fool.
Also thank GOD he isn’t one of those obnoxious “villains” who are forced by the story to speak horrible words against their will when they want to say something gentle. I absolutely despise those types because then it makes no sense how people are drawn to them.
