Chaos Mate ~Revenge In This Chaotic Academy~ - Chapter 69: The Mad Wolf
Chapter 69: The Mad Wolf
Emi Side
The scene unfolding before my eyes—I couldn’t accept it right away.
Madoka… he’s no longer Madoka.
His form has transformed completely, from human to a jet-black werewolf with a body of ice.
The werewolf seems to revel in harming others, taking joy in inflicting pain.
There’s not a trace of the old Madoka, who was always calm in all situations and never acted on impulse.
So… what is this Madoka fighting right now? Are you saying this is the real Madoka?
No way… that can’t be…!!
While I’m lost in confusion, the battle between Madoka and Jack rages on.
The difference in strength is overwhelming.
Jack tries to attack from the fog with his crescent-shaped axe, but even though Madoka shouldn’t be able to see him, he slices through every threat coming from any direction.
Then, with counters—elbow strikes, knee kicks, backfists, roundhouse kicks—he dominates.
“This can’t be all you’ve got!? Come on, more, MORE! Entertain me!!”
As if the fog’s effects don’t touch him, Madoka’s movements are razor-sharp, with no wasted motion.
His words are those of a beast reveling in battle, yet his movements control that impulse.
It’s contradictory, yet it works.
Truly, chaos.
The tide has turned, and Jack’s starting to show signs of panic.
“Impossible… impossible, impossible, IMPOSSIBLE!! Why, how!? Me, inferior!? That’s IMPOSSIBLE!!”
“Impossible? That’s as good as admitting you’re at your limit. This can’t be it, right!? Feed me more of your despair!!”
Madoka spreads his arms wide, taunting loudly. No, it’s more like he’s purely showing off his power.
Jack, panting, stops attacking and stands still.
“Impossible. This power is almost like… If this continues…!!”
I hear him muttering something under his breath, but I can’t make out the details.
But in the next instant, Jack’s figure vanishes in a flash, reappearing beside Madoka. By the time Madoka reacts, he’s already gone.
It’s not like the killing intent manipulation from before.
It’s like actual teleportation.
His movements grow faster, and when he next appears before Madoka, he swings his axe, finally cutting Madoka’s cheek.
But the cut part is instantly repaired by ice.
“Nice… It’s getting a little interesting now, isn’t it?”
“When facing a monster beyond human limits, we have no choice but to use power beyond human limits as well. Allow me to use my trump card—my ‘ability,’” Jack says.
“You think that makes us equals?”
“Equals? Don’t flatter yourself, you mongrel. Having both Hope and Despair means nothing if you can’t wield them. You won’t have time to learn that—because I’m eliminating you now.”
I’d considered the possibility, but this is the worst-case scenario.
The Pokers have “abilities” too.
And they’ve improved the power of the old drug.
With the enhanced “Blood of Hope” and an Ability Tool, Jack becomes a formidable enemy.
But despite understanding the situation, Madoka seems calm.
Calm, yet ready to surrender to his impulses.
“My ability is ‘Acceleration.’ With Mist Curtain’s effects, it might look like teleportation to you. You have no choice but to submit helplessly. And then, you’ll die—pathetically!!”
Jack hides in the fog, waiting for a chance to ambush Madoka.
Madoka stays put, saying, “It’s already too late,” standing quietly.
Jack teleports in front of Madoka, swinging his axe horizontally with force.
“This is the end…!!”
Madoka doesn’t move. The fog’s effects must be eating away at his body.
But his confidence and madness remain unchanged.
“Yeah… for YOU!!”
Madoka holds out his left hand, catching the axe’s blade.
The ice spreads through the axe, creeping onto Jack’s body.
“What!? What… what the hell is this!?” Jack cries out in shock, trying to pull away, but the ice doesn’t break.
The jet-black ice invades Jack’s body.
Seeing this, I finally understand what my father once told me.
“Power, in itself, has no meaning. It just exists. It’s only when human effort, ingenuity, will, and emotions come together that power is unleashed. That’s what it means to use power. And power… evolves through humans.”
This is… evolution?
Is this what it means for power to evolve through humans?
Madoka locks the axe—and Jack’s hand—in ice.
Then, reshaping his right hand’s blade into a fist, he starts pummeling Jack’s face.
“Now you can’t escape anywhere!! It’s over… despair helplessly!!”
Madoka keeps punching Jack’s face, over and over, dozens of times.
Jack’s mask shifts, exposing his lower face. Blood spews from his mouth, splattering Madoka’s jet-black fist and wolf mask.
Jack’s at his mercy, without the strength to resist.
If this continues, Jack will die.
And I feel like Madoka won’t come back.
“Stop… Madoka!!” I scream.
It’s all I can do right now.
But I can’t help but scream.
Words have power too. If the feeling is strong enough, they can reach.
So, I pour all my will into one message.
“Please… come back!!”
Please… let it reach him!!
I scream with all my might. Because I want to protect Madoka—his heart.
“!?”
Madoka’s fist stops just before Jack’s mask.
“…This… I… am…?”
He’s regaining sanity, his body trembling with agitation.
As Madoka comes back to himself, the ice armor shaped like a werewolf shatters.
Realizing the situation, he quickly grabs the ice blade from the ground, swings it down at Jack’s head from above, and slashes horizontally, delivering a powerful blow.
“Gah!! Guhhaa!!”
“…Tsubaki-style swordsmanship, Juumonjin…!!”
By then, his right eye has shifted from blue to purple, and the ice has melted.
Confirming Jack’s unconscious, Madoka releases Byakka, collapsing with both hands on the ground.
“I… what the hell… why…!?”
Hearing him mutter, head bowed, I force my body to move, approaching and hugging him from behind.
“Madoka… I thought… I didn’t know what would happen…!!”
Tightening my embrace as tears stream down, Madoka grips my arm.
“So… you saved me… again, huh?”
His voice is frail, but the fact that he came back is more precious than anything.
