Chapter 4 Let’s start walking
But even so, this definitely doesn’t look like Japan, does it?
No, there’s even the possibility that it’s not Earth.
I mean, you can take things out from that weird screen.
Could it be?
Is this the trendy otherworld everyone’s talking about?
…Furthermore, it feels like the difficulty level of life just got cranked up…
With my stomach settled, I take another look around.
The surrounding trees… are they birch trees?
Probably, considering their white trunks.
But they seem oddly soft.
The ground has hardly any slope.
Could this be a forest on a plateau or something?
If it’s not a jungle or virgin forest, maybe there’s a path nearby?
“Trash… what should I do with it?”
I tried putting the trash from after I ate into that screen.
But since it’s neither food nor a collectible, it couldn’t be stored.
I’ll shrink it down and put it in my pocket or something.
Can’t just litter in the woods, that wouldn’t be right as a person.
Still, the sun is high.
It was evening before I came here, but it’s like midday here.
For now, I decide to start walking.
I doubt anyone will ever come here.
“If it’s another world… are there fearsome beasts or something?”
Walking cautiously, I ventured forth, and after a while, I heard what sounded like water.
There might be a river around here.
If I follow the river, maybe I can find a settlement!
As I started to move in the direction of what seemed like a run, there was something there.
“… This could be trouble.”
Not large, wolf-like… no, with oddly short legs… but it has horns!
Definitely a creature I’ve never seen on Earth!
Is it growling at me to intimidate?
If I look away, it might pounce.
But if I don’t run…
Without breaking eye contact, I slowly inch backwards.
Its body, thud, sinks down.
It’s about to leap at me!
The moment it kicked the ground, I lowered myself and bolted diagonally forward.
And just like that, I dashed without looking back!
Running full tilt.
I can’t afford to take in the surroundings.
Can’t even glance behind.
Passing by a large rock, I tried to hide and circled around it.
Then, right as I reached the muddy soil beside the rock, my foot got caught, and I tripped… slipping and sliding down.
…and came to a stop…
Caught on a tree root, I managed to halt myself somehow.
Maybe because I slid backward, it seems I only have minor scrapes – thankfully.
The drop didn’t seem significant either.
It seems the creature didn’t catch up; I’m relieved.
I scanned the area, looking for a place where I could perhaps walk.
…There’s something like a roof below.
“A house…? No, maybe some kind of hunting lodge?”
Regardless, I’m saved!
For now, I’ll head there… and if there are people… wouldn’t that be more dangerous?
Is it okay to make contact like this as someone from another world?
