Calligrapher’s beautiful character life in another world ~Daily life matchless with collection and character magic? ~
Chapter 10 Let’s go to town
Together with Gaihack, I left the cabin and headed towards the town.
There doesn’t seem to be a proper path even near the cabin.
The pale trees disappeared from the surroundings.
We passed through an area with waist-high reeds growing in an open space.
If I were alone, I definitely wouldn’t have taken a path where I can’t see my footing like this.
As the muddy ground cleared and the soil beneath became harder, we finally reached a narrow road.
“If you go left on this road, you’ll reach the town of Schliere.”
Schliere… quite a challenging pronunciation.
I take a sneak peek at the sheepskin paper I brought with me earlier.
Some of the blank words have been filled in.
Just as I suspected, it’s a place name.
Since I heard it and confirmed the sound, it seems to have been converted to the nearest sound in Japanese.
After walking for a while, the outer wall of the town came into view.
The outer wall appeared sturdy, made of stone… probably to keep out suspicious individuals.
I’m quite suspicious-looking myself, but I wonder if it’s okay…
“We’re just cautious because magical beasts occasionally come close to this area. No need to worry,” Gaihack said. He’s quite perceptive… Did I show it on my face?
“Since this is my first time in a town… I’m feeling a bit nervous.”
“It’s a good town. Crafts and blacksmithing thrive here, and there are many artisans. Even the woods from earlier and the ones on the opposite side yield good materials.”
Oh, I wonder what kind of things they make. If it’s a town of artisans, there must be a variety of interesting things.
I tell the gatekeeper our names and have a brief conversation, explaining that I don’t have any form of identification.
“If you’re with Gaihack, there’s no problem. Welcome to Schliere!”
This person is nice too…!
And Gaihack, seriously, thank you so much!
The town was much larger and livelier than I had expected.
Most of the stone houses were two-story, and the streets throughout the town were paved with cobblestones.
There were also stalls selling casual food and items that seemed to be daily necessities.
“Um… I don’t have any money or anything. Is that okay?”
“I told you not to worry, didn’t I? I’m here for you!”
From top to bottom, I’m really sorry for everything… I’ll definitely repay this kindness someday!
“You’re a life-saver, after all.”
Even though it’s not like I healed such a serious wound… Gaihack, you’re really steadfast in repaying favors.
Upon reaching the dining hall, there were quite a few customers inside.
Is it alright, though? Gaihack still has the slain beast with him… hygiene-wise…
“Hey! Everyone, the horned wolves have started showing up! When you head to the White Forest, make sure to take precautions!”
Gaihack held up the creature high, showing it to the customers.
Oh!
Applause… and responses.
It must be praise for Gaihack having taken down the beast.
I see, they’re giving a warning because a dangerous creature appeared.
…It was dangerous enough to warrant precautions.
I’m really glad we managed to escape…
Afterwards, I was led to the back and towards Gaihack’s home.
There were residential houses at the back of the shop, and it seems there’s a backyard as well.
The back entrances of several houses also lead to that garden.
“I’ll deliver this to the Hunter’s Association and stop by the vigilante group. You just go ahead and have something to eat at the shop.”
“But…”
“Whoa there! No need to hold back! Seriously, dig in!”
But… I was about to say, before I was interrupted.
Alright, I’ll gladly accept your kind offer and enjoy the meal.
Chapter 10.5 Gaihack and Miarella
“Miarella, have you seen Takuto? Did he really have a proper meal?”
“Yeah, he’s eating just fine. What’s up with that, though?”
“Remember the old cabin in the White Forest? He was there.”
“Huh? Wasn’t that place abandoned years ago when the Dire Wolves’ den was established nearby?”
“Yeah, I managed to take down one of those Dire Wolves near that cabin.”
“What? In such a dangerous place…”
“About a month ago, the mountains deep in the White Forest collapsed, right?”
“Yeah, I heard about it… A small village got wiped out… Oh…”
“Yeah, I think he might be one of the survivors from there.”
“So, you’re saying he survived and lived in that cabin?”
“Even though it hadn’t been visited in years, the inside of the room was clean…”
“But… how could he have survived for a whole month?”
“There was a smell, like roasted river fish. In this season, there are still things to eat in the forest.”
“I see… He managed to live alone without falling ill or getting injured…”
“He’s capable of using ‘Affliction Magic.’ It’s a type of restorative magic.”
“Is he really such a rare magician? That kid?”
“Yeah, and don’t you dare tell anyone!”
“I know, revealing that to adventurers could cause a lot of trouble.”
“He’s incredibly skilled, you know. Look, at these arms, take a good look.”
“Hey, hold on! Your clothes are torn and there’s blood…”
“Look closely! There’s not a scratch on me.”
“You’re right… but if you were attacked by a Dire Wolf, we need to detoxify you quickly!”
“It’s alright.”
“Even a mild poison, if left untreated, could immobilize your left arm!”
“The poison has already disappeared.”
“…Huh? But healing magic doesn’t usually cure poison, right?”
“It did this time. When I had Ganzel’s father check me earlier, there was no sign of poison.”
“There’s a healing magic like that?”
“It’s my first time experiencing something like this. I’ve never even heard of it before.”
“Do you possess some kind of extraordinary magical power?”
“It’s possible… I got injured on my face too, but it healed all of it.”
“Poison on your face… If we had been a bit slower, you might have died!”
“It must be magic from his hometown.”
“…That village that’s already gone… that kid lost his whole family, right?”
“Yeah, even though he insists he’s an adult, there’s no way he’s older than twenty-five.”
“I agree. No matter how you look at it, he doesn’t appear to be over twenty-five.”
“That’s for sure…”
“He must have been putting on a front… pretending he can survive on his own.”
“I want to let him stay with us for a while… is that okay?”
“Of course! You wouldn’t just cast aside someone who saved your life!”
“You’re truly amazing, Miarella.”
