Greetings.
“Kazuya. If you have washed your hands, quickly introduce your girlfriend to your parents.”
“I know. Miyu, will you come with me for a minute?”
“Yes, Okay.”
I took Miyu and went to the room where my parents were. In short, I go to the room where the Buddhist altar is located. I haven’t been here since last summer vacation, which means I haven’t been here for more than half a year…. I ring the bell while thinking about this. Surprisingly, many people don’t know that a Ring is a bell that rings on a Buddhist altar, and ringing it has the meaning of a greeting.
“It is said that the ringing of the bell is meant as a greeting. I’m sorry I haven’t been back for more than half a year. I was supposed to come back during the winter vacation, but due to various reasons, I couldn’t. I’m sorry for not coming back for more than half a year. I’d like to introduce you to someone. My girlfriend, Shiroyume Miyu. I’ve got a girlfriend too. She’s too cute for me.”
“It is nice to meet you. My name is Shiroyume Miyu and I am dating Kazuya-kun. Kazuya-kun says so, but from my point of view, Kazuya-kun is too good for me.”
Miyu was also sitting upright in front of the Buddhist altar alongside me, and she said such a pleasant thing. The major purpose of coming back to my parents’ house was now fulfilled.
“Thank you.”
“yes. The people in this picture are Kazuya’s parents, right?”
“That’s what I have heard too.”
My memories of actually seeing my parents’ faces are vague because I was too young, and I only know them from photographs.
“Kazuya-kun looks like his mother from this angle.”
“Really?”
“Yes. You look just like her, same eyes and all.”
I can’t say for myself, but I think it’s better to have an objective opinion from someone else, and apparently I’m like my mother.
“Your father seems like a gentleman. Maybe, but I think your personality is more like your father’s.”
“Well, that much is hard to tell, isn’t it? But I kind of wish that was the case.”
“Yeah.”
“Should we go back to the living room now? Grandma’s probably waiting for you.”
“Yeah, I guess so.”
Grandma, perhaps reading the atmosphere, waited in the living room the entire time we were greeting my parents. Then Miyu and I went to the living room where Grandma was.
“Speaking of which, where’s Grandpa?”
“He’s at his usual place.”
The usual place here is a kind of facility where old people gather to play chess, go, and other games.
“I guess so. It’s just around lunch time, so why don’t you pick up your grandfather?”
“Okay, but what about Miyu?”
“I’ll stay here.”
“Is that so? Well then I’ll be off then.”
I’m kind of nervous about leaving Miyu and Grandma home alone together, but if Miyu says so, I have no choice… Please don’t tell me any embarrassing stories about my past, Grandma….
“Well, it looks like the fool has left the house, so I guess it’s time to move on. You’ve had something to say to me ever since you came here, haven’t you?”
“…Yes.”
