The Beginning.
Oh ….lord…. I thought I was going to die. ….Who the hell ever thought of making a roller coaster… I’ll never forgive you. Perhaps the person who thought of the roller coaster has already passed away, but I still decided that I would never forgive him. If I have decided, I have decided!
“Kazuya-kun …You screamed, you screamed so bad…!!”
“….You’re laughing too much.”
Miyu had been laughing not only since she got off the roller coaster, but from the time she was on the roller coaster until now. ….Damn you Miyu. Even after riding the roller coaster, you still mock me. …I’ll never ride the roller coaster again with you for the rest of my life!
“Are you sulking, by any chance?”
“…I’m not sulking.”
“You’re sulking to the max, aren’t you? I’m not going to laugh anymore, and I’m not going to ask you to go on a roller coaster ride again, so why don’t you get back in a good mood?”
Saying this, Miyu strokes my head as she leans a little taller. ….I feel like I’m being treated like a child, I’m not sure if this is the next step of that, but I’ve been thinking about it for a while now. But it’s so calming. …No, I can’t calm down. Why am I feeling a sense of motherhood from my classmate? If it’s bad, it’s a crime.
“Can I ask you to stop stroking me now? It’s just plain embarrassing.”
“Muuu.. If you say so, Kazuya-kun.”
“So, what do you want to ride next?”
“I’m good with anything though?”
If that’s the case, is there any kind of attraction where I could get back at her? I don’t like the idea of Miyu continuing to make fun of me…. With this in mind, I looked at the map of the park to see what was there.
“Kazuya-kun, haven’t you been acting like a child?”
“Hmm? It’s just your imagination.”
“…Is that so?”
“Yeah.”
Well Well, I’m not sure what to do next ….Maybe a haunted house, huh? I wonder if Miyu is okay with horror type of things? I don’t know because I have an image of girls screaming when they go to places like this, even if most of them aren’t scary places…
Well, I don’t even know if I can apply the normal girl thing to Miyu. I guess Miyu would want to scream and yell if she was scared.
“Kazuya-kun. Are you thinking of something rude this time?”
“No, I don’t think I’m thinking about anything?”
“….Why the question form? Well, whatever. So, have you decided?”
“How about a haunted house?”
“I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not afraid of ghosts or anything like that, okay?”
I was completely seen through. And I guess she was still fine with it. …I feel OOOF. …But, well, it would be childish if I stopped there, so let’s just say that I wanted to go there. There’s nothing in particular that I want to ride.
“I only wanted to try it, you know.”
“I don’t know if you’re upset or something?”
“…Shut up. I can watch horror movies and stuff like that just fine.”
“Hmm.”
Miyu and I then headed to the haunted house. I had heard that the haunted house here is very scary because it is a remodeled haunted house from an actual hospital, but it really looks a little scary from the front…
“Let’s go then…”
“Kazuya-kun. I really don’t know if you’re gonna be screaming just like before?”
“You’ve been persistent since a while ago, don’t tell me you’re scared?”
“…No, of course not.”
“Well, well, well. Why do you look away there?”
“…Shut up. Let’s go quick.”
With that, Miyu took my hand and led me into the haunted house.
It seems that this haunted house has a system in which groups of several people follow a route through the house, and for that purpose, they go through a reception desk right after entering the house. After doing so, a card was given to us, and on the card it said ‘Mesu’. In other words, we are the Mesu group. After the name of the group was announced, we were told to gather at the designated place.
“What do they mean?”
“Isn’t that a gender thing?”
‘All members of the anesthesia group please assemble in the operating room. I repeat, all members of the anesthesia group please assemble in the operating room.’
“I take Mesu as a surgical knife thingi…”
“You’re elaborating in a weird way…”
The operating room is the designated area they mentioned earlier, behind a door right next to the reception desk. About 30 minutes later, the Mesu group was assembled. When we entered the operation room, there were about 10 people in the group, including Miyu and me.
“Are you all from the Mesu group? In exchange for your card, you will each receive a surgical headlight, so please come and get it.”
The surgical headlight was the small light often seen on the forehead of doctors performing surgery in medical dramas.
The staff exchanged the surgical headlight for a card with the word ‘Mesu’ on it and we put it on. The intensity of the light was adjusted so that I could just barely see my feet.
“Have you all finished installing the lights? Let me explain to you all the next part if it’s done…”
In short, they told us to follow the route, not to push the person in front of us, and not to run. Hearing all this, it reminded me of a disaster drill.
“The last thing I want to say is that you all are on your own responsibility for anything that happens to you all from now on. If anyone wants to stop now, please exit through that exit.”
What was with that…. How scary is this haunted house? What if anything is in there for real?
“Am I correct in assuming that no one will exit? …Since that seems to be the case, please proceed through that door and follow the route.”
The staff member who bowed after saying so opened the door for us and we proceeded. Miyu and I decided to follow the people in front of us at the tail end. …I didn’t mean to freak them out!
“Hey, Kazuya-kun….”
“…What is it?”
“I want you to hold my hand…”
“You were scared after all?”
“….Kazuya-kun’s meanie.”
That being said, I grabbed Miyu’s hand. I didn’t hold Miyu’s hand because I was scared. I held Miyu’s hand because she insisted. Nothing more, nothing less. …I’m not afraid of this, I’m just holding her hand, nothing else.
Then, Miyu and I followed the person in front of us from the last spot. I was prepared for the fact that something was going to happen because the person in front of me freaked out first, so to be honest, I wasn’t that scared. We walked for a little while.
“What is it? kyaaaaah!”
Miyu looked down and suddenly started screaming, so I looked down to see what it was and saw that a lifeless head had fallen there…
“Gyaaaaahhhh!!!” No, I can’t do this. …No matter how fake it is, if I look down, I’ll see a lifeless head… Perhaps Miyu thought something hit her leg and looked down, but that was a lifless head.. That would make me scream. I screamed too….
“What, what, what, oh my God!”
“H-HEADDDDDDDDDD!!”
“HELLL!” And so on, and all the people in the same Mesu group were moving on as if they were trying to escape. I tried to follow them.
“Kazuya-kun ….What should we do? …We lost our group.”
“…Seriously?”
Well, I guess I can’t blame her, but why this timing of all times…? It seems that Miyu and I have been completely left behind by the Mesu group, and it’s just me and Miyu here.
“You can’t get back up and catch them?”
“…Can’t.”
“Huh. …I don’t have a choice.”
Then I turned my back to Miyu and crouched down in front of her. I looked down and saw that a Liflesshead had fallen there, but I was a little prepared this time and didn’t scream for the second time.
“…Kazuya-kun, what are you doing?”
“What do you mean? We can’t stay here forever, can we?”
“…Sorry and thank you.”
Saying that, Miyu leaned forward on my back, albeit slowly. I stand up and am surprised at how light she feels. And I can’t say what it is, but I feel the softness that is peculiar to girls on my back.
Then I started to walk away from this haunted house as soon as possible with Miyu on my back. ….I screamed at every single event. Miyu reacted with a jerking back every time I screamed.
I know I did something wrong to Miyu, but isn’t it unfair to bury her face in my back and refuse to look at anything?
So I managed to make it to the exit, where I let Miyu off my back.
“Can you stand up now?”
“I’m fine now. Sorry for that.”
“No, it’s fine. I’m the one who wanted to go to the haunted house…”
The initial goal of scaring Miyu was achieved, but I was even more scared than she was. ….Seriously, it was far scarier than anything in a horror movie….
“In the meantime, do you want to rest somewhere?”
“Yeah.”
It was already evening when we left the haunted house. Miyu and I sat side by side on a bench a short walk away. …I feel like I sit on a bench every time after a ride or something . Well, I only went to 2 places…
“What’s left to ride, about one more, what do you want?”
“The last thing I want to do is ride on a Ferris wheel.”
“The Ferris wheel. ….that’s a good choice.. That one looks peaceful.”
“Kazuya-kun, you were acting like this before going to the haunted house.”
“Shut up. I don’t want to hear it from someone who couldn’t even stand up.”
Miyu and I rested on the bench for about five minutes and then started walking toward the Ferris wheel. Since it was already late in the evening and a number of families had gone home, we were able to get on the Ferris wheel after waiting in line for only about 10 minutes.
“The Ferris wheel goes up slower than I thought it would.”
“I guess so. But it’s better to have this peace.”
“This way, I don’t have to worry about any screaming.”
“…Again with that…”
“Fufufu~. It’s fun to make fun of Kazuya-kun.”
Miyu and I watched the view from the Ferris wheel window in silence until the Ferris wheel came to the top. It was a beautiful view of the city under the sunset sky.
“We’re almost at the top.”
“Yeah.”
“Hey, Kazuya-kun”
“What is it?”
“Thanks.”
Why am I being thanked? Is she still wondering what happened earlier in the haunted house?
“What for?”
“Everything. Including what you did earlier at the haunted house, taking me home, working for me until you collapsed, thank you for everything.”
“….What’s up with you all of a sudden?”
“If it weren’t for you, Kazuya-kun, I would probably be dead by now. But now I can live a normal life and visit amusement parks like this. It’s all thanks to you, Kazuya-kun.”
Indeed, on the day I first spoke to Miyu, she looked as if she was about to disappear, and Miyu was so weak, mentally rather than physically, that she could have died if I had left her like that.
“That was something I did on my own, so don’t worry about it.”
“I can’t do that. I was saved by Kazuya-kun.”
“…I see.”
“So it’s no wonder I’m falling in love with you, Kazuya-kun.”
“…what?”
What did Miyu just say? Does she love me? Did she really say that? No, no, Calm down me… No, Like Hell I can calm down!!
“Hey, Kazuya-kun. Do you hate me?”
“No, no. Of course not.”
“Thank you. I love you so much, Kazuya-kun.”
I love you so much? …Saying something like that directly on my face, it’s so embarrassing to hear her say that. …But what about me? I didn’t have to think about such things. The moment Miyu told me she loved me, I was embarrassed, but most of all I was very happy. In other words, I guess I already had an answer in my mind….
I never thought that I would realize my feelings after Miyu confessed them to me. ….Maybe Miyu was right about me being more of a child than I thought….
“….Me too.”
“What?”
“I mean I love you too, Miyu.”
“Then would you—”
“Ahh. Would you go out with me if you like?”
I knew I could not let Miyu say this. I can’t deny that I felt like she should be the one to say this, but I still thought I, as a man, should be the one to say it.
“Yes. …I never thought I’d see the day I’d be so happy. …I’m so glad I met you, Kazuya-kun.”
Miyu smiled as she said this, and perhaps because she was aware that I was in love with Miyu, the sunset sky and cityscape seen from the Ferris wheel window were incomparably beautiful.
This was how our love affair began.
