The Amusement Park.
“It’s so crowded….”
“It’s spring break, and the tickets are half-price because of the spring break special.”
Miyu and I had an incident where she was picked up at the station, but after that, we took the train without any problems and changed trains several times before arriving at our destination, a theme park. Where should we go? When we talked about where to go, Miyu said she wanted to go to an amusement park, so we came here….
“What should I do, Kazuya-kun? ….I feel like I’m getting sick. ….just looking at it….”
“Oii”
Miyu, who herself suggested this place, is already in this mess. She hasn’t even gotten in yet….
But I can’t help but understand what Miyu is trying to say. We came here about three hours after the park opened, and there was still a long line to buy tickets.
“We haven’t even bought our tickets yet, so if we can’t make it, do you want to go somewhere else?”
“No.”
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I’m fine…. Is not what I would say, but this is where I wanna be.”
“It’s okay if you say so, but if you can’t, just tell me, okay?”
“….Okay.”
After standing in line for half an hour, we were able to purchase our tickets, and after standing in line for another 15 minutes, we were finally able to enter the theme park.
“Now that we’re inside, it’s a lot bigger than I expected.”
“Yeah. But you’ll have to wait in line again to get on the rides. Many of the rides you have to wait in line for more than an hour, I think?”
“….Don’t you want to take a different ride?”
“Why the hell do you think we are here….”
At any rate, we decided to take a look around the park and started walking around the theme park without riding anything. It was lunch time, so I suggested that we eat, but she said no, because it would be a maidenly death. What does it mean to die like a maiden?
“It’s so wide.”
“It is. We’ve only gotten about halfway around on the park map.”
“Seriously…? Well, thanks to that, there’s a good distance between people, so I won’t get sick from the crowd again.”
“Yeah.”
There were indeed an endless number of people, but the size of the park outweighed that, so we never bumped into anyone or anything. Rather, I was able to look around the park in comfort.
“Fuhhh. ….Did you get a good look around?”
“Yeah.”
“There’s a bench right there. You want to take a break?”
“Yeah. Honestly, I’m tired…”
“We haven’t even gotten on anything yet, though, have we?”
But well, it’s true that the crowds and the unique atmosphere of the theme park might be hard for an indoor person, Miyu. I’m also an indoor person, but thanks to my daily part-time job, I have a bit of physical strength, so I’m okay with it.
“I’ve never been to a place like this before, but today I’ve learned that it’s not a place for someone like me…”
“Well, I don’t think this kinda place is suitable for you, Miyu..”
“…Sorry.”
“Sorry for what?”
“Because of me, Kazuya-kun… It’s my fault Kazuya didn’t seem to be enjoying….”
“It’s okay. And it’s surprisingly fun to just wander around like this with you.”
“….Thank you.”
There was no need to apologize or thank me. It’s true that we didn’t go on any rides, but Miyu and I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take a look around the park while talking to each other about this and that.
“But now that we’re here, is there any ride you want to ride?”
“That’s the one I want.”
Miyu pointed to a roller coaster.
“…Are you serious?”
“Amusement parks are all about roller coasters, right?”
“I mean, there’s going to be a huge line. There will be a lot of people.”
“I know that.”
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Kazuya-kun, you are too overprotective.”
I’ll be honest with you guys. I’m scared as hell. I’m sure Miyu will stop if I tell her I’m scared and want her to not go there, but I’ll be too pathetic to say that, so I tried to get her to give up somehow….
“Let’s go.”
“Y-yeah…”
I guess I’ll have to prepare myself for this… As I expected, the line for the roller coaster was endless, and the electronic board showed a wait time of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
“Hey, Miyu. Are you sure you want to go on a roller coaster? It looks like we’ll have to wait in line for an hour and a half.”
“Don’t worry. I’m just relieved that it’s shorter than I thought it would be.”
“I didn’t expect such words to come out of your mouth, Miyu. After you said that you were tired and felt like you were going to get sick….”
“What’s wrong, Kazuya-kun? …Are you afraid of the coaster?”
“What? No, of course not….”
“Hmm, I see. Kazuya-kun, you know. If you’re scared, we can quit.”
Damn…! How much better would it have been if I could have honestly said I was scared here… My pride as a man would never allow me to be provoked like this. Even if I knew that I would regret it later, I couldn’t back out now.
“Stop talking about such things and let’s go.”
“Kazuya-kun, you really do have a childish side, don’t you?”
“….Shut up.”
Then Miyu and I started standing in the long line. We talked a little and then alternated periods of silence. After an hour or so of standing in line, we finally began to see the place where we would get on and off the roller coaster.
“….We’re almost there.”
“I guess so. Are you scared and starting to think that maybe you should have stopped?”
It was a perfect picture. Every time I saw people getting on and off the roller coaster, I was getting more and more scared that my turn would be coming soon. I wondered if this was how death sentenced inmates felt as they waited to be executed. We continued to line up and finally reached the point where it would be our turn when the next roller coaster went and came back. And then this moment came…
“It’s finally our turn, isn’t it?”
“Oh, Ahh, Ye-Ye-yes…”
“Kazuya-kun, you’re not even trying to hide your fear anymore….”
I didn’t have the time to hide it. I’m not saying it’s pathetic, but honestly, I was so freaked out that my stomach started to hurt. Then Miyu and I were led by a staff member to sit in a certain position.
“Ahh…I think I might die today….”
“No, you’re not going to die… All the people before us are still alive, right?”
“But how do we know we’re not going to die too? We’re screwed…. Mom and Dad… I’m coming with you…”
“You aren’t going to the other side… I don’t know if it’ll make a difference, but do you want to hold my hand?”
Miyu held out her hand to me, and I didn’t hesitate to grab it with both hands. I was so nervous that my hands were sweating, and I felt bad for Miyu, but I didn’t have time to worry about that right now.
“I can’t believe you grabbed me with both hands… Kazuya-kun… You’re really scared….”
Soon after that, the roller coaster started moving with a signal from the staff. The roller coaster slowly, slowly made its way to the top. And then it reached the top. All that was left was to fall. Huh. …Am I going to fall all the way down to hell…?
“I want to be a cat if I’m born again. HELLPP!!!”
For the next two minutes, the theme park was filled with my screams of despair.
