Day before spring break.
“So long…”
Why is it that the principal’s talk at the school assembly is so long? …The more I think about the fact that if I can get through the principal’s long talk, spring break will start tomorrow, the more my thoughts loop and the slower time seems to go by. …And the next thing I know, I’m off to the world of dreams.
“Kazuya-kun. If you don’t get up, everyone will leave.”
“…Mom?”
“Mom? ….Kazuya-kun, you’re too sleepy. ..Come on, we have to go.”
Miyu then pulled my hand and made me stand up. Then I looked around and saw that the students were leaving the gym in droves. The only ones left were the sparse number of students and teachers.
“…Was I asleep?”
“I don’t know how one can sleep through a whole school assembly, but yeah, you did.”
“…Let’s get back to class.”
Miyu looked momentarily disappointed when I let go of the hand she was holding when she made me stand up like that, but I guess we can’t hold hands all the way back to the classroom. Yeah, it’s too weird for a guy and a girl who aren’t even dating to go back holding hands in a normal way.
“Oh, you’re back at last. If Shiroyume-san hadn’t woken you up, you would have been asleep the whole time, right? If you had, you would have been woken up by the teacher in the gym where you were left alone.”
“…It would be an embarrassing and painful experience for me. I’m so thankful that you came for me, Miyu. Thank you.”
“Yeah. But it’s bad for the heart to say something like that out of the blue…”
What’s wrong with your heart? I just wanted to thank you for your help, didn’t I? Is it a new kind of sarcasm to say that thanking me is bad for your heart? ….Let’s hope not. If not, I’m going to cry. Also, after all this time, Miyu has been talking to me in the classroom, albeit occasionally, since she talked to me before.
“….Kazuya says things like that without realizing it.”
“Hey, I was just saying thank you, but why are you acting so weird? Is this a new kind of bullying?”
“It’s no good when you say you’re just saying it…”
“….Kazuya-kun’s an idiot.”
Does this mean, in essence, that I should never say thank you again? Is my thanking you really that bad? Miyu told me earlier that it’s bad for her heart, so that’s what this is about, isn’t it? I’m going to cry, now?
After about five minutes of talking with Miyu and Shinya, the homeroom teacher came into the classroom and held the last homeroom. Spring break assignments were handed out in the last class of each subject, so the only thing that was handed out in this homeroom was the report card. I’ve been submitting my work, and I’ve never gotten a red mark on a test, so my grades have been okay.
“Kazuya… I’m screwed…”
Our high school is famous for its unusually large amount of make-up assignments, so Shinya’s spring break may end up with spring break assignments and supplementary assignments.
“I guess I won’t be going out for food until I finish my supplementary assignment.”
“Ahh.. If it comes to that, you and Shiroyume-san can go……”
Looking at Shinya’s melancholy back, it’s his own fault for taking the flaw, but there’s something about it that makes me almost pity him….
The last homeroom was over and we were dismissed, despite the accidents that happened on the way. Tomorrow is spring vacation, so I’ll be working part-time, and I’ve already started my part-time shift in the morning because the first dash is crucial.
In addition, I was going to ask Shinya to join me, but he was going to have a meeting for being flawed, an event in which the flawed will be punished by the teacher in charge of each subject, so I couldn’t really ask him if he wanted to go out for crepes. He couldn’t say, “Why didn’t you also ask me out for crepes….”
“Shall we go then?”
“Yeah.”
Then Miyu and I walked out of the classroom side by side. I felt the stares of my classmates poking at me from behind, but it was probably just my imagination. Some of the girls were telling Miyu to do her best, but what was she going to do?
“We’ll have lunch somewhere before the crepes, right?”
“Yeah, sure.”
It was a little after 11:30 a.m., so it was a good time to have lunch.
“Do you want to eat something special?”
“I’m good with anything.”
“Anything is even more troublesome…”
Anyway, we decided to go to a crepe shop in front of the station, so if there was a place to go before we got there, we could just go in there, so Miyu and I lined up and went from the school to the crepe shop in front of the station. Needless to say, we got a lot of attention from the people around us…. It’s not like we’re dating or anything, but even if I told people that, it wouldn’t be very convincing.
