A Thank You Treat.
“I scored a hundred.”
“Congratulations. But I had a feeling it was going to happen…”
The test week, which had been a parade of part-time jobs, was over and classes were back to normal. Today’s math class was also a result class, and Miyu’s math score was 100, despite all the concern. By the way, I got a 78.
“Thanks to Kazuya-kun, it looks like there will be no extra class during spring break for me.”
“I’d be shocked if that were the case. And I haven’t done anything to deserve your thanks, you know?”
That’s right. I only shattered Miyu’s problems with violence in the name of logic, but I did not teach her how to solve any problems.
“Still, I was saved. So I want to thank you for this.”
“No, There’s no need to though?”
“No, but I got paid for my part-time job…”
“You got it for rent and food and you can use the rest for whatever you want, okay?”
The moment Miyu got paid for her part-time job at the bookstore, she gave me about 50,000 yen, saying it was natural since I was letting her live with me. Of course I said I didn’t want it, but Miyu didn’t had any intention to give up, so I reluctantly accepted it.
I don’t know how much Miyu earned from her part-time job, but at 50,000 yen, I think she gave me most of what she earned from her part-time job. On top of that, she still wanted to spend money on me as a thank you, which I was grateful for, but also very sorry…
“Then I’ll do that.”
“Please do that.”
“So, do you want to go out to dinner?”
“What?”
“I’ll buy you dinner. You want to go out for dinner?”
“Did you hear what I just told you?”
Why would she do that? I thought I told her that I don’t want her to thank me and that she should spend the money as she pleases. Why is she trying to treat me?
“Kazuya-kun said to spend it as I please, so I want to thank you.”
“As I said before, I don’t want to thank you for the math.”
“…You are wrong.”
“Hmm?”
“I said you are wrong! I don’t want to thank you for the math, but I do want to thank you for letting me live in this house! When I get paid and I’m going to do something for you! Why don’t you understand me! Kazuya-kun you are Thick-Head!”
“Oh, oh…. I’m sorry about that…”
Oh, I’ve pissed her off…. Her face is dyed red and she is staring at me with tears in her eyes …Could this be embarrassment? I mean, being a Thick-Head doesn’t have anything to do with it though? But how can I refuse when I’ve been told such a thing….
“If that’s the case ….Please take me for a Thank you treat.”
“Just say that from the beginning.”
“Yes…”
I’m not sure if Miyu forgave me for saying that, but she smiled and nodded in satisfaction.
“Is there anything you want to eat, Kazuya-kun?”
“I’m fine with anything.”
“Don’t anything me.”
“…Sushi?”
“You don’t mind sushi again?”
Hmm… It’s true that Miyu’s welcome party was in a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, so we went there about a month ago. Or rather, it’s been about two months since Miyu came to my house. Man time flew…. Amazing. Now then,
“Hey, Miyu.”
“What?”
“Do you mind if we don’t go out to eat?”
“Why…?”
Miyu stared at me with a fierce glare. I think she’s misunderstood me, but that’s not the case.
“No, it’s not that I don’t want a thank you treat or anything, but you promised me when we went out to eat sushi.”
“Promise? ….Oh, the one where you want me to cook for you?”
“That’s right.”
The last time we went to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, when we were talking about where Miyu usually buys her sushi, she made an astonishing comment that she made it herself, and I asked her if she would make it again at home.
“You mean you want me to make you sushi as a thank you?”
“….Not good?”
“It’s fine if that’s what you want, Kazuya-kun…”
“Are you sure?!”
“Yeah.”
“YAY!”
To be honest, I had forgotten about the promise until just now, but I remembered it well. I’ve been living with her for a while now, and I can tell you that Miyu’s cooking skills are really good. She says that my cooking is better, but generally speaking, the difference in cooking skills between me and Miyu is as wide as heaven and earth. There was no way Miyu’s sushi would taste bad.
“Well then, I’m gonna go get some stuff, okay?”
“Do you want me to help you with your shopping?”
“No, because it’s a thank you treat.”
“I see?”
“Well then, I’ll be off okay.”
“Okay. Have a good day.”
“See you later.”
I’ve gotten used to this exchange between “see you later” and “I’m off”. …In the beginning, it was very uncomfortable, but now it’s very natural for me.
After about an hour, Miyu came home and immediately started making sushi. Miyu said that she might not be able to make something that authentic because there are no pail in the house, but normal houses don’t have pail. ….After another hour or so, the sushi was laid out on the table.
“Wow, that’s amazing….”
“With a little practice, anyone can do this.”
Miyu says this as if it’s a matter of course, but I’m sure it’s not. The sushi that Miyu made looked just as good as the ones sold in the stores. There were 6 types of sushi, including tuna, octopus, yellowtail, Thai, shrimp, and squid, and the quantity was a lot too.
“Then, thank you for the food!”
With that said, I first attacked my favourite shrimp and ate it… These are store-bought shrimp, right? And Isn’t the sushi rice too amazing? I don’t know if they are really store-bough, but it’s really good….
“…It’s really good.”
“Really? Then I’m glad….”
Then I continued to eat sushi without giving it any other thought. The other five types of sushi were all very delicious. I could have eaten as much as I wanted if the sushi was this good… I may never be able to go to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant again.
“Phew. ….Thanks for the food.”
“I can’t believe you ate it all… I thought for sure there would be left over….”
“It was so good… It was the best way for a thank you treat.”
“I’m glad you said that. It made it worth my while.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
It was really delicious ….And Miyu said that with practice I will be able to make it too, but will I be able to make it if Miyu teaches me?
“I wondered if I could learn to make sushi if Miyu taught me. Can you teach me how to make sushi?”
“I don’t mind, but …Why?”
“If I can make it myself, J can always eat good sushi, right?”
“Maybe so, but …Just tell me and I’ll make it for you whenever you want.”
“Even if that’s the case, Miyu will probably get married in the future, and we won’t be together forever, right?”
“……..You’re an idiot, Kazuya-kun. I’ll never teach you how to make it.”
“Why?!”
After that, it took a lot of time to get Miyu back in a good mood, and she even made me promise to go out with her again. Well, I don’t mind going out with Miyu at all, but I have to choose the right place or else my classmates will see me….
Miyu said she may or may not teach how to make sushi, depending on her mood ….Really, why not?
