- I’m Gonna Live with You Not Because My Parents Left Me Their Debt But Because I Like You
- Chapter 189: The Sports Festival begins!
Fortunately, the weather was fine for the height of the rainy season, and the sports festival was held as scheduled. Many parents and graduates with too much free time on their hands had come to see their children in action, and even though the opening ceremony hadn’t started yet, the school grounds were filled with a strange kind of excitement.
In the midst of all this, I gazed out at the brilliant sunshine from the simple tents set up for each class in the schoolyard, muttering to myself in resentment that I didn’t have to put up with the sky.
Even though it was still before nine o’clock, I couldn’t stop sweating because of the high humidity.
“I’m starting to get somewhat nervous, Yuya-kun, even though I’m sure you experienced this last year.”
“It doesn’t matter. Let’s just get out of here, okay? I mean, Kaede, you’re definitely not nervous, are you?”
Kaede talked to me, squeezing my hand. Despite her words, she seemed to be enjoying herself.
Thanks to her, I was about to line up to listen to a long and thankful speech by the principal and guests, but the hateful stares from the people around me were chipping away at my life.
“Ehehe. Last year’s boring talk by the principal seemed to be bearable with Yuya-kun.”
“That’s the best thing, but I might not be able to stand it in many ways.”
Mostly due to the protesting looks of “don’t flirt” and the hateful looks of “change that” from the people around me. It was not that I didn’t want to hold hands with Kaede, but I’d like her to refrain from doing so right now.
“Uuh… okay. If you say so much, I’ll leave just for now. Just for now.”
She said it twice because it was important and pulled her hand away. But it had the opposite effect, because the distance between us was not getting further, but rather closer, so close that our shoulders were touching.
The soft and refreshing scent of citrus made me feel at ease, but the beautiful white collarbone peeking out from the neck of her gym uniform and the sweat soaking into it gave her a healthy glow that made my heart beat faster.
“Fufu. What’s the matter, Yuya-kun? Your face is red? Ah!? Maybe it’s heat stroke!? We need to get some water in here!”
“I’m fine, just don’t come any closer to me! I’d rather you leave me alone for a bit so I can heal!”
“Yuya-kun, don’t underestimate heat stroke! Are you planning to retire before the gym festival starts? Are you going to lie down in the infirmary for a day? I’m not afraid of that, because I can legally take care of Yuya-kun!”
Kaede smiled slack-jawed as she said this. Why did I feel uneasy even though I should be happy that she was taking care of me?
“It is said that when you are in your hometown, you should follow your hometown culture, and gym clothes are not appropriate for taking care of Yuya-kun. I still need to change into a nurse’s uniform!”
“Yeah, I could tell that Kaede wasn’t going to take care of me properly. I wonder why she’s cosplaying in the school nurse’s office!?”
“My mother told me. Boys have a weakness for nurse’s uniforms.”
Kaede showed off her knowledge that Sakurako-san had given her in a way that sounded like the decisive words of someone who had traversed the way of heaven and controlled everything.
“Yeah, I think I got it. I can’t catch a cold for the rest of my life. I can’t let Kaede take care of me.”
“How could you say such a thing!? Please let me take care of Yuya-kun! I want to take off your sweaty shirt and give you a hug and wipe your back!”
Kaede’s cheeks were steaming, and she huffed and puffed while sniffling as she moved her face closer to mine.
If she nursed me like that, I don’t think it would make me feel better. No, it might make me feel better in a different way, but I won’t say anything more.
“Both of you. You can flirt all you want, but leave it at that, okay?”
It was Nikaido who called out to me with a dumbfounded look. With a sigh, she grabbed Kaede by the shoulders and pulled her away from me.
Thank God.
“You’ve got to get a grip, Yoshizumi. That’s why Kaede spoils you endlessly, you know?”
“Oh, AAH… I’ll try to be careful.”
“Kaede too. I know you love Yoshizumi, but you have to do it in moderation, okay? Are you planning to turn everyone in the class crazy before the gym festival even starts?”
“Yes… I’m sorry I got carried away. I will reflect on this.”
Kaede looked down with a pout. If she were a puppy, she would have her ears and tail down. I couldn’t help but imagine how cute she would be. I feel like petting her head and spoiling her.
But if I don’t resist that urge, what would Nikaido say?
“Yes, yes. Yoshizumi really is a clod when it comes to Kaede. It’s written on her face that he wants to pet Kaede.”
“… that’s ridiculous.”
“I know I’ve said it many times, but Yoshizumi has a tendency to show it on his face. Look, the opening ceremony is about to start, so I’m going.”
When Nikaido told me to look around, I saw that all the classes had started lining up in the school yard. Shinji and Otsuki-san had already joined them. It was rather late for us who hadn’t lined up yet. I didn’t want to stand out any more than I already have.
“Come on, don’t be sullen forever, we’re coming too, Kaede.”
As I said this, I naturally took Kaede’s hand and started walking. I was afraid of what Nikaido would say if she saw me doing this, but when I saw Kaede’s happy face, I couldn’t let go. I couldn’t resist the look on Kaede’s face.
“Ehehe. Let’s work hard to win this year’s sports festival, Yuya-kun!”
With Kaede’s support, I didn’t feel like I could lose.
