Chapter 8

Maki’s POV

In the second semester of my first year of high school, a boy in my class confessed to me. That was the first time I was ever confessed by someone.

But I already have Haru-kun, so of course I turned him down on the spot.

However, after being confessed by that boy, I realized that other boys beside Haru-kun also looked at me that way. I started to become conscious of the gazes of other boys.

I started to wear light make-up to school, started to care about cosmetics, fashion, I even tried to smile and be friendly whenever I talk to people.

In the second year of high school, I continued to be like that at school. In the first year, I only hung out with girls, I only had girls contacts on my phone, but in the second year, I began to make friends with boys and exchanged contact information with them as well. I started to spend more time together with mixed group of girls and boys at school and after school.

Because I spent a lot of time with boys, some of them confessed their feelings to me that year.

Of course, I turned them all down, but I began to feel superior about it, I got carried away.

I always thought that the boys weren’t interested at me at all, so at that time, I felt happy that I was popular among the boys.

But, the one I truly love was Haru-kun after all. At first I didn’t intend to get along really well with the boys.

Having a smartphone, having a boyfriend, had lost my virginity, to be popular among the boys.

With my high school life going great, I was getting more and more carried away.

As summer break was approaching, I began to make plans with my friends.

Go shopping for swimsuits, go to the beach, drinking party at karaoke.

As we were talking about that, a boy in my class name Sudo said,

‘We can have a drinking party at my home, my parents won’t be home at night.’

Sudo-kun’s father was working away from home alone, his mother apparently went to where his father was on the weekends. So, from Friday noon to Sunday night every week, there was no one at Sudo-kun’s house.

At Sudo-kun’s suggestion, everyone said,

‘Oh, that sounds great! Let’s have a drinking party at Sudo’s house!’

It was decided immediately.

On the last day of the first semester, on the day of the closing ceremony, we went home and changed clothes, then gathered at Sudo-kun’s house for a drinking party.

I didn’t have part-time job that day, so I decided to tag along.

There were five boys there, including Sudo-kun and four girls, including myself.

We often went out to hang around together, we also went to family restaurants and karaoke after school many times before. So I was relaxed from the beginning and I was looking forward for the drinking party.

Once we all gathered at Sudo’s house, we decided to go shopping at a nearby convenience store.

Three of the boys went out to buy some alcohol, because if it were the girls who went to buy them, our age would be easily revealed and they wouldn’t sell it to us.

While we were waiting for them to come back, we talked about my boyfriend.

‘Maki-chan’s boyfriend is at Danda high, right?’

‘Yeah, that’s right.’

‘No way! Seriously!? Danda high is full of nerds, right?’

‘Then, Maki-chan’s boyfriend must be studying all the time.’

‘Even though summer break starts tomorrow, he is still studying?’

‘Ugh, that sounds really boring.’

I was quite pissed of by their words, they didn’t know anything about my beloved Haru-kun. However, I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it so I just laughed it off.

Despite that, the drinking party itself was really fun.

It was my first time drinking alcohol, so I just drank a can of beer. My face became really hot and I started feeling tipsy. We all had fun getting excited together and blabber around like idiots.

We all made a promised to continue having drinking parties every week during the summer break.

We all went home around 11PM that night.

I thought that my mom would definitely get mad at me if I went home drunk, so I took a break alone sitting on a bench in a nearby park to sober up. When I passed Haru-kun’s house, I saw that the lights in his room were already off, so I thought he must’ve gone to bed. I didn’t send any message to Haru-kun that night and went to sleep immediately after taking a shower.
