- Chap 73: The Objective of the Highest Ranked Demons
Alma skillfully slashes through demons as she races through the forest, her speed increasing with every step. Finally, she emerges from the woods into a clearing that appears to be a makeshift resting area. There, she discovers the source of the demons.
“Ugh, this must be where the demons are coming from.”
In front of her is a massive crystal, not transparent but an ominous red-black. Demons are continuously being spawned from it, flying off in different directions.
“This must be the source of the demons… It’s huge and obvious, easy to destroy.”
(But there’s a catch…)
Despite her suspicions, Alma readies her spear.
“Shatter everything — Gungnir!”
Her magic-imbued spear thrusts into the crystal, creating cracks that quickly spread, shattering it entirely.
The crystal breaks apart, and the production of new demons halts. However, Alma doesn’t feel relieved or victorious.
“This doesn’t feel like it’s over. There’s something more troublesome coming up.”
Alma begins to dispatch the remaining demons while activating her magical device, “Denwa,” to call her teammates.
◆
Elsewhere, the battles against the demons continue.
Crow vs. the regenerating Ifrit.
Ali and Yuma still could not gauge the enigmatic Iblis’s full strength.
Lafia faces a shape-shifting, giant demon.
Other members of the team are engaged in their respective fights.
Before Alma can report the crystal’s destruction, the demons seem to know already.
“Hmm, the crystal is destroyed? Good thinking to take it out first.”
Iblis comments, still exuding calm and confidence.
“Hey, no distractions. — Meteor Fire.”
Ali casts a spell, unleashing numerous fireballs at Iblis, who easily dodges them.
Iblis has yet to attack, only defending.
“What’s your real goal? The guests you talked about taking hostage have been evacuated. There’s no point in continuing this fight.”
“If there’s no reason, then let’s stop fighting.”
Previously, Iblis mentioned fighting while protecting hostages, hinting at some intention involving them. But now, Ali and Yuma begin to suspect otherwise.
“Our goal? Well, it’s vague, but human subjugation, I suppose.”
Ali and Yuma’s expressions harden.
“Don’t look so worried. It’s just a goal for now. We’re not ready yet.”
“So, this is just a reconnaissance for you?”
“Sharp as ever. Here’s something you should know. To defeat us — the highest-ranked demons — you must eliminate all three of us simultaneously.”
“Three at the same time…”
“There are two more like me… And your friends are already facing them. Immortal Ifrit, me with unlimited magical power, and Jin, who absorbs attacks. Can you defeat us?”
“—— I think we can.”
Everyone hears Crow’s voice through their magical devices.
“My friends are strong. We’ll win in the end. We won’t let you subjugate humanity.”
Upon hearing Crow’s confident declaration, Iblis’s face, always smiling, turns serious for a moment.
