- Chap 55.1: The Assassination of Her Parents and the Erasure of a Noble's Existence (Lulu's POV)
Lulu Naitsu has been outstanding since her childhood.
Quick to learn anything and always behaving appropriately.
Cool and collected, unattainable like a flower on a high peak. Her skin was white as snow, and her long, straight, golden hair was without a single kink. Her features were incredibly refined, her small face perfect, almost doll-like. Her large, round eyes, a deep, madder color, could form a strikingly cute expression when wide and softened.
At that time, the Naitsu family was quite famous in social circles.
Then, one day, when Lulu visited her father’s room, she sensed something odd. The air was heavy, with faint sounds from inside.
As usual, she knocked. No response.
“Father…?”
Lulu slowly opened the door, immediately covering her mouth as a stifling scent of blood hit her.
And then… she saw a horrific scene that drove her to despair.
“Father! Mother!”
Her cry was filled with agony.
The room was splattered with blood everywhere.
Her father lay face down on the desk as if he had run out of strength. Large clots of blood had fallen onto an envelope in the middle of the desk, splattering around it.
Her mother lay on the floor with a sword stabbed into her back. There was a trail of blood as if she had tried to move towards the door.
Perhaps she was trying to reach out to me…
Thinking the assailants couldn’t have gone far, Lulu hurriedly looked outside the window.
She saw masked men in black jackets and boots disappearing into the darkness.
Looking back into the room, she collapsed to her knees in despair, crying out for her parents.
Afterward, Lulu learned of the vast debt her father’s business had supposedly incurred. Of course, it was a false charge. All the family’s assets were taken as collateral for the debt, and she was forced to live a life akin to a poor commoner.
And gradually, it was as if the Naitsu family had never existed among the nobility.
“…!”
That day, Lulu was shivering in a small, shabby four-and-a-half tatami mat room.
Men in black, emanating a murderous aura, surrounded the house.
They were the same masked group that assassinated her parents. She remembered the rosary glimpsed through their robes.
She would be killed if things stayed this way.
“But I won’t be caught that easily…”
Lulu rolled up the mat, revealing a trapdoor leading to an underground passage, a route for emergencies.
Ignoring the loud banging on the door, she entered the tunnel. The underground passage led to a sewer. Running beside murky water in a space just wide enough for one person.
The space was damp and foul-smelling.
When she emerged above ground, she exhaled the stifling underground air with a “phew.”
Once in the city, people avoided her, probably because of her smell.
She decided to sleep rough halfway through her journey with nowhere to turn.
Lulu huddled in an alleyway.
“Why did this happen to me?”
Her parents were assassinated, and her own life was in danger.
Tears started to overflow involuntarily. She quickly wiped her eyes with her sleeve.
“I won’t cry. No more crying… Crying won’t bring them back.”
Drip, drip, drip…
Raindrops fell on her face. Rain poured down from the sky.
Looking around, everyone hurried by, rushing to their homes, families, and friends.
…I have nothing.
The rain continued, soaking everything.
“Maybe it’s better to just die of weakness…”
As she sank into despair, footsteps approached.
“…Could it be the pursuers?”
She clutched a shard of glass, a useless weapon.
And then…
“What are you doing here?”
The source of the footsteps appeared – a young boy wearing a mask and a robe.
“They sent you, didn’t they!”
“Whoa, wait, wait!”
Lulu brandished the glass shard, but he easily dodged.
“That was close… Calm down. I’m just an adventurer.”
“Lies! Give me back my father and mother!”
Sobbing, she hit the masked boy, who could only offer a wry smile.
——This was the first encounter between Crow and Lulu.
