- Chap 45.5 Side Story 1: Crow and Ceris. Disciple and Master.
“I’m going to live a life where I’m not bullied.”
That’s what I thought, but gathering comrades was difficult. Many people had already decided on a guild to join before becoming adventurers, and most of those I approached were already affiliated somewhere. Sometimes, I was even misunderstood as hitting on someone’s girl and getting punched for it.
So… the situation has yet to change.
During the day, I complete quests, and in the evening, I sometimes get dragged into letting adventurers from the guild vent their frustrations on me. Then, one day…
“What are you guys doing?”
In a back alley.
I was beaten to the point where I couldn’t stand when a woman’s voice echoed. She had blonde hair in a wolf cut and slightly drooping eyes. She wore armor and had a sword at her waist. She must also be an adventurer affiliated with some guild…
“Huh? Who are you?”
“Oh, she’s super cute.”
The beautiful woman appeared and stopped them from hitting me. Two men approached with vulgar smiles.
“Hey, you. How about having dinner with me after this—”
Slap!
The red-haired woman slapped one of the men, making a loud sound.
“What?”
“Disgusting. I hate adventurers who beat up the weak.”
“What did you say?”
The man who was slapped had veins popping on his forehead.
“You think you can look down on me just because you’re a little pretty?!”
In a fit of rage, the man drew his sword.
“Take this!”
He took a running start and swung his sword down. The woman calmly assessed the situation, swept the man’s legs out from under him to immobilize him, and body-slammed him into the wall. The man knocked against the wall, lost consciousness, and slumped to the floor.
“You bastard!”
The other man, seeing his friend defeated, also attacked the woman.
The blade swung recklessly with all his might and missed the woman entirely.
“What the—?!”
My arm was caught and pulled in the opposite direction.
The man’s face was twisted to the point it looked like it would rip off.
“How about that? I can take you down like this without a sword, right?”
The woman said with a cheerful smile, turning to me.
“Learn your lesson and stop picking on the weak.”
She released the twisted arm and let the man go. He hastily picked up his fallen comrade and left.
Ah, it’s over. I have to thank her…
“Thank you…”
“It’s no big deal. What’s your name?”
“Crow.”
“Crow, huh? I’m Ceris. Are you always subjected to violence by them?”
“Always, or rather, it’s a recurring issue…”
“Hmm…”
Ceris looked thoughtful after my reply. A few seconds of silence passed.
“How about you come with us?”
“Huh?”
How did it come to this?

“Excuse me.”
I arrived at the mansion where Ceris lives. I was led to the living room, where two women with braided hair, who seemed to be housemates, were present. They looked surprised when they saw me.
“Ceris-sama! Is he a new guild member?”
“A man!? Ceris-sama, what’s going on?”
“Sierra, Luella, calm down.”
Sierra and Ruela, as they were called, looked very similar, probably sisters or twins.
“I found Crow here being subjected to violence by adventurers.”
“I see. So you helped him and brought him here.”
“He’s like a stray cat that’s been abandoned. Sniff, sniff… Hmm, he smells a bit…”
“What do you intend to do with him? If he’s not a new member, then…”
“An apprentice, huh?”
“An apprentice… Yeah, that sounds good. He’s cute like a little brother.”
“Uh, what?”
I couldn’t get a word in edgewise during the conversation among the three women.
Things are moving on their own.
“Crow, you’re my apprentice starting today. We’ll begin your special training first thing tomorrow.”
“Uh… okay.”
After dinner and a bath that night, the special training began early the next morning.
“Phew…”
I suppress my exhaustion and sigh.
The intense sun and rigorous physical labor naturally make my face grim.
“What’s the matter, Crow? We’re still in the warm-up phase.”
From weight training to 300 practice swings with a wooden sword to running…
And this is still just the warm-up.
“Those who can’t complete the special training won’t get food or sleep.”
Ceris smiles as if she’s enjoying herself.
This master… she’s too much of a demon!!!
