- Chap 34: 【Pandy's side】He is the Pinnacle of Leadership
“——Is being the ‘strongest’ really that impressive?”
In a daze, Pandy responds to Lulu’s question.
“Being the…strongest…is obviously…impressive.”
“I thought you’d say that. But from our perspective, that’s the wrong answer.”
Lulu says this and then places her ring on Pandy’s finger, healing his wounds.
“Just so you know, if you attack like that again, I won’t hesitate to kill you.”
“My wounds… they’ve healed… Thank you, I understand…”
Not wanting to experience such pain again, Pandy nods in agreement.
“To continue from earlier, being the strongest doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the best. It varies depending on the place and the people.”
“…What?”
“Even if you have power, if you’re alone, you wouldn’t know if you’re the strongest. Being ‘the strongest’ is an evaluation from others, not a title you claim yourself. But even if you have people around you, you might be reviled as a monster or envied and betrayed because of your strength… Sometimes, being the strongest can also mean being the worst.”
Pandy, who has never experienced the hardships that come with strength, couldn’t understand what Lulu was saying.
What’s wrong with being strong? If some oppose, make them obey with power.
“You seem confused. Let me change the question. Do you understand how significant it is to give a powerful weapon to someone stronger than yourself?”
“If they’re stronger than me… it would only benefit them. Plus, I’d become weaker.”
“Exactly. Yet Crow — he willingly gave up being the strongest.”
“…!”
He gave up his strength, his claim to being the strongest?
Confirming Pandy’s reaction, Lulu continues.
“It’s true, right? He would’ve been the strongest in the Devil’s Triumphant Return if he hadn’t handed over such a powerful weapon. There’s no obvious benefit to deliberately weakening oneself.”
Pandy ponders.
If he had a powerful force, would he willingly give a part of it to someone else?
The answer is — NO.
If one possesses such immense power, they charge ahead alone.
The strongest, the winner, the self-made, the one and only…
Earning titles at the end of such journeys, followers come due to the overwhelming trust in that strength. Those deemed as inept eventually realize their authentic capability and trail behind them.
That is what being the strongest means.
“Using the power gained from the effort for revenge, or arrogantly wielding the fortune-obtained strength to dominate… all are individual choices. But people can be drawn in by more than just strength. That is — one’s character.”
“Crow-sama reached out to us when we were abandoned. Not just that, he gave us powerful weapons even at the risk of weakening himself or being betrayed.”
“Mm, so we, the Aries, protect the Master.”
“To protect, one needs strength. So, it’s natural to become stronger.”
“Gratitude can empower a person like nothing else. That’s why we swear loyalty to Crow and worship him. This bond wasn’t formed by the strongest but by his character, his “kindness.” It’s something other guilds don’t possess. That’s why the Devil’s Triumphant Return is strong. Moreover, he usually seems negative, humble, and somewhat unreliable. But when he’s determined, he looks unfairly masculine and leader-like. It’s obvious to fall for such a person.”
Lulu continues further.
“Crow will eventually become the pinnacle leader amongst all the guilds. We’ll ensure that. And if anyone threatens his position, we’ll ruthlessly crush them.”
Her eyes were serious.
He was seen as vital by those around him and the strongest in the guild. But once he steps into another guild, he’s beaten down.
Pandy was engulfed in a sense of loss he had never felt before.
“Hah, I’ve lost in every possible way…”
He had picked a fight with the masked guy, no, with an incredible opponent.
I can’t hand over a part of my power to someone else, even if it’s the best method to strengthen the whole guild.
That’s because my desire to be stronger than others prevails.
…He truly is the pinnacle of leaders.
“Ah, thank you for sharing this… I won’t think of becoming the leader of Devil’s Triumphant Return anymore, and I won’t go against Crow either. I’m sorry for the arrogant attitude I’ve shown until now!!”
Pandy bowed deeply, touching his forehead to the ground.
“I see; you’ve had a change of heart.”
“Yes, your words have changed me. I’ll think of ways to become stronger again with my companions.”
“Good.”
The Devil’s Triumphant Return never ends on a positive note, just like that.
“If it’s just words, anyone can claim they’ve repented.”
“H-Huh…?”
The women smile creepily.
“There are still two days left. We’ll engrave it deep into your body, so you never think of embracing a woman again…”
“Eh… Ah… Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!”
…
“Achoo!”
“Crow-san, do you have a cold?”
“No, I don’t think it’s a cold… Maybe someone is talking about me?”
Crow handed out weapons to the members merely to create legendary weapons; there wasn’t any profound intention behind it.
Yet another of Crow’s misconceptions.
