Chapter 31: Reality Is a Shitty Game, so He’s Not Wrong

By utilizing the teleportation trap, I managed to jump down from the middle levels to the lower levels. Then, I started searching for another teleportation trap so I could jump to the deep levels.

“Found it. Looks like I can reach the deep level with this.”

I found my fourth teleportation trap. All in all, it had taken me about three hours to find four teleportation traps. I had a pretty good pace here.

〈He’s already at the deep levels.〉

〈The heck with this exploration speed?!〉

〈The other examinees are still at the middle levels, right?〉

〈And all of them are the top A-rank explorers.〉

I stepped on the fourth teleportation trap and my surroundings changed. I could feel the density of the magic power in the air increasing significantly compared to before. The graveyard of the deep levels of Inokashira Dungeon stretched from the 21st floor to the 25th floor. This place was said to be filled with horrifying undead monsters and true enough, within this vast space, countless gravestones of various sizes were lined up. Ominous atmosphere filled the air from the eerie surroundings.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been in the deep levels. I think I will have to be extra careful this time.”

First, I put on my equipment.

〈Huh? Wait. Old Man, when did you change your outfit outfit?〉

〈The equipment he’s wearing looks unfamiliar to me.〉

〈I’m an explorer too, but I’ve never seen that kind of equipment before.〉

〈It looks super cool though.〉

This was the equipment I liked to use in the past. They had been collecting dust in the storage for years and now I took them out specifically for today. I had a helmet, armor, leg guards and two bracelets. Each piece was custom-made from materials I had found in the dungeons. 

〈I tried searching for it using AI search, but I received ‘NO DATA’ from the result.〉

〈For real?〉

〈Does that mean Nishida is going all out today?〉

〈That said, he’s still using his kitchen knife though. LOL〉

〈Footage from the deep levels is insanely rare though.〉

“GRRRROOOAAAAHHH!!”

“Oh. An undead monster right off the bat.”

I swung my kitchen knife down and a straight line appeared from on the Dragon Zombie’s head, going down to its back. However, the dragon kept charging at me, but before the dragon could reach me, its body was split in two. The dragon collapsed on the ground with its rotten guts spilling out everywhere. 

〈What was that!?〉

〈I thought Nishida was about to get eaten!〉

〈When did he cut it!?〉

〈Imagine the stench though. Must be awful…〉

“Undead don’t feel pain. I forgot we need to be extra careful against them. I will keep that in mind for my next encounter with an undead monster.”

〈HUHHHHHHHHH?!?!〉

〈Didn’t he get splattered by the dragon’s guts?〉

〈There’s not a drop on him.〉

〈How is that even possible?〉

GYUUOONNN!!

“Oops.”

I dodged the swing of a giant scythe that came from behind me. Turning around, I saw a floating skeleton monster. It was a Grim Reaper.

〈So scary!〉

〈Huh?! Where did that thing come from?〉

〈A Grim Reaper!〉

〈You can tell it’s a dangerous monster just by looking at it.〉

“Grim Reaper can approach its target without making a sound and that scythe of his has an instant death effect. A tiny cut can kill you if you’re unlucky. Also, Grim Reaper is a ghost-type monster, so physical attack has no effect on it.”

〈The heck?! What kind of outrageous monster is that?!〉

〈What a shitty game. They need to nerf that monster to make the game more balanced.〉

〈This is reality though.〉

〈Reality is a shitty game, so he’s not wrong.〉

“Well, my knife has the effect of nullifying any physical immunity though. His immunity doesn’t really matter to me.”

I sliced the Grim Reaper in half, right through the top of its skull.

〈What kind of knife is that? LOLOLOL〉

〈Nishida himself is the embodiment of absurdity.〉

〈I can watch this without worrying about anything.〉

 “The next thing to come is a Gazer, huh?”

A blob of flesh came falling from the sky with a high-pitched scream. The blobby mass of flesh had countless tentacles sprouting from its body. A slit formed in between its flesh and a giant eyeball appeared.

〈Uwah, so disgusting.〉

〈If only those tentacles looked a little better, maybe I would get a bit excited watching it.〉 

〈Nobody’s here for Nishida’s tentacle play though. LOLLLL〉 

〈That’s not true.〉 

〈What?〉 

〈Huh?〉 

〈I mean….〉

The Gazer could pull its opponent to a world of hallucination by using its eye. Hence why, I had to proceed with caution. Gazer could also use various kinds of troublesome magic. 

“But still, hallucinations don’t work on me.”

〈Nishida is too invincible.〉

〈So what does work on him?〉

〈Looking For: A way to defeat Nishida.〉

〈RIP Gazer〉

I jumped forward and thrusted my knife right into the Gazer’s weak spot. Its eye. It was an instant death.

〈Three monster battles in a row and all of them end in an instant.〉

〈So this is the deep level.〉

〈Anyone but Nishida would’ve been dead by now.〉

〈This is so scary. I nearly wet myself.〉

“But still… Don’t you guys also think there are too many monsters? I mean even for a deep level, the monster shouldn’t come in rapid succession like this.”

I started to have an ominous feeling about this. Not to mention, the concentration of magic density in the air was far too high for a deep level floor. At first, I thought my senses were a bit off because it had been a long while since I went into the deep level, but…

“Well, maybe I just happened to get teleported to a spot with a lot of monsters. I will keep on exploring.”
