Chapter 96 “Final chapter, Last time I’m 40 years old”
“Dad, what should we do about Harlow’s fox?”
“Hmm, let’s try setting up a trap first.”
“Can I give it a shot?”
“Sure. But make sure to put up a sign so nobody gets hurt if they step on it.”
“I know!”
With that, Stan left the house.
Stan…
Stan is a child from the Elven village. He lost his father early on and lived with his mother until she passed away two years ago. Saran and I adopted Stan as our own child. He’s already fully part of our family. He’s twelve years old. He’s adorable!
I’ve turned forty.
Recently, I found a strand of white hair on my head, and it was quite a shock.
It’s been nineteen years since I came to this world.
The hero, Blanversh, hasn’t appeared before us since then. He’s been faithfully guarding his position as the hero, traveling the world. Recently, I’ve heard that his son accompanies him in his training. He checks on the shrines about once a year, teleporting in as he pleases. It would be nice if he dropped by.
The hero must be really busy.
He seems to appear everywhere, and thanks to him, I’ve been completely spared from getting caught up in any major events. I work as a hunter in the Elven village, supply fur to the city, and even handle the extermination of pests a few times each trip. I’m just your average hunter.
The Orthodox country hasn’t said anything to us since that incident. Blan is on track to become a recognized hero in history. Well, he probably already is. Even if there were any major events, Blan would immediately resolve them. Our roles are pretty much obsolete.
Thanks to the Sword we provided, I guess.
He’s truly the protagonist of this world.
To ensure that we’re not caught up in strange situations and can live peacefully, Blanversh kept his promise…
Moreover, you know what? Ever since that incident, Blanversh has been wearing the raccoon hat we lent him all the time! I had actually forgotten to ask for it back, but now he wears it wherever he goes. It became a huge trend as the “Hero’s Hat” or “Blan Hat,” and its value has skyrocketed!
Well, it’s quite the life, isn’t it? Starting with a clear aim and working on it. While it’s not possible to mass-produce fur, it has allowed us to make a decent profit in various Elven villages. For the Elves, it’s more like a momentary bonus in their long lives, so it doesn’t really change their modest way of living.
Anyway, I’m nothing but grateful to Blanversh. Thank you.
“Later, make sure to check it out, Shin.”
“I know.”
Saran’s smile is leaving wrinkles at the corners of her eyes. But she still has a lot of energy, and she’s young!
Now that Stan has turned twelve, I’m gradually teaching him hunting according to the village’s tradition. We’re not using guns. Right now, Saran is teaching archery and swordsmanship, while I’m teaching traps. I’ve improved the Elven-style traps, and they’ve become quite powerful, but still, the pitfall trap remains the most effective.
When I showed this to the blacksmith in Topuros, he was able to replicate it, and now it’s being used not only in the Elven village but throughout the entire Kingdom of Julliard. It’s not only hunters but also farmers who find it convenient for pest control, helping reduce agricultural damage.
While my wife and I are aging gracefully, the villagers remain youthful. It’s a bit awkward since they’re still just as they were when I first came to this village.
Saran is an Elf, but her race is a bit different. Her aging process is closer to mine.
Well, that can’t be helped either. I’m happy, though. I don’t really want a wife who stays forever young like everyone else.
The village chief is as usual.
Lately, he’s always wearing a hat.
Did he go bald?
Perhaps he went bald?
There are plenty of people who still look cool even when they’re bald. Let’s take it gracefully, Chief…
The children who were small when I arrived are now fine young men.
Elven children grow at about the same rate as humans until they’re about sixteen, and then they gradually age, extending their lifespan to around two hundred years.
When Stan turns sixteen, I’ll teach him to use my gun. Sixteen is considered adulthood for Elves.
Just four more years.
I’m now forty-four years old.
The Elves don’t really want my gun.
“They’d make you do all sorts of things if you had it,” they say with a laugh.
When I first came to the Elven village, Goddess Nanotesu said, “In about a hundred years, the Demon King might resurrect.”
I probably won’t live to see the Demon King, but Stan and the people of this Elven village will someday face the Demon King and his minions.
At that time, I want them to be able to protect the village.
My digital radio, which I used to communicate with Nanotesu, broke, and I can’t use it anymore. I haven’t communicated for over ten years now.
The Magic Bag is still usable.
I can still go shopping.
I’ve earned enough money to stockpile over twenty thousand rounds of ammunition and more than ten firearms, but I’m not sure how long the Magic Bag will last.
How long can gun ammunition be stored? A hundred years is probably impossible. Although I’ve stored a large amount in the Magic Bag, I wonder what will happen.
If I leave the bag open before I die, Stan might be able to access the stockpiled ammunition, so perhaps it might be effective for storage after all, assuming Nanotesu takes care of it.
I learned how to use a gun from my grandfather when I was twenty years old. He was seventy years old at the time. He was active in the Hunting Association until he turned seventy and passed away the same year he retired. It must have been a tough and arduous job for an old man. But with no one else to take over, he persevered.
Just like my grandfather, I need to teach Stan how to use a gun properly. And, in true Elven fashion, he should also learn to handle a bow and sword to protect himself. Should I start taking him on hunts? Is it too early? I’ll have to discuss it with Saran to decide.
“Well, there’s still a long way to go,” Saran says. She loves children, so she probably doesn’t want to put them in any danger as a doting parent. I think we’ll have to be stern and strict to train them properly. I’ve been scolded plenty by my grandfather too.
“The folks at the Hunting Association coddle the young ones. Listen, you need to take this seriously; otherwise, accidents can happen. Keep a keen eye.”
… Grandfather. Now it’s my turn to train the young ones.
The lifespan of people in this world is still quite short. The average lifespan of the kingdom is fifty years. If I could live to be seventy like my grandfather, I’d be considered an elder. I’ve got just a little over ten years left in my life. That’s how it feels.
In the next ten years, I’ll teach Stan everything I can. It would be nice if he could find a wife and maybe even have grandchildren. However, Elves are quite indifferent to such matters. Seeing the faces of grandchildren while I’m alive might be a bit difficult.
“What’s wrong, Shin? You’ve got a strange expression.”
The way Saran says it, her choice of words. That kind of straightforward way of speaking is a bit…
“Well, it’s just… you know.”
“What is it?”
“Well, I was wondering if I could see my grandchildren’s faces before I die.”
“Don’t worry about that. Look, there’s Kano chan and her five children!”
Milno and Kano, who got married the year I came to this village, now have five children. I really wish they wouldn’t invite us as a couple to peek in on them… And all five of them are girls.
“Everyone loves Stan so much, you know.”
“Really!?”
“Yeah, because Stan’s a great guy. He’s a hunter, and he’s skilled with both swords and bows. Among the kids, he’s the best.”
… That’s how it is.
I still can’t quite distinguish between the handsome men and beautiful women among the Elves.
Each one of them is remarkably handsome, beautiful, handsome boy, or beautiful girl.
I still can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that Saran didn’t have any suitors.
“But Kanochan and her daughter, the younger one, are around the same age as Stan. But the older one, Manochan, is already an adult.”
“In the world of Elves, the age difference doesn’t matter much.”
“Well, that’s true, but…”
“It’s become a competition to see who can secure an engagement.”
Among Elves, it’s not uncommon for engagements to be decided by the time they reach the age of sixteen as adults. Saran, however, has never had an engagement, I hear.
“Thinking about Stan’s marriage… What’s the point of worrying about it now?”
“He won’t be an adult for another four years. Then, another eight years until marriage, and maybe another ten years until they have children?”
“That’s right. It probably takes that long.”
Saran comes up from behind and wraps her arms around me, giving me a comforting rub.
“That’s why you don’t need to worry about a thing. Just live a long life, Shin…”

Thank you so much for accompanying us on this journey.
I express my gratitude to all those who have supported and read my work for a long time.
This story has had various experiences, from reaching the top spot in the daily comprehensive rankings for the first time, to bringing attention to my past works that were wandering at the bottom due to this story’s influence.
Receiving numerous feedback, I found joy in crafting responses.
A work that I casually wrote while wandering at the bottom has been acknowledged and ranked.
It’s truly surprising.
If a story is interesting, its ranking will rise. I was the most surprised. For those who think, ‘It’s impossible for an unknown work at the bottom to rise,’ it’s not like that. No, it wasn’t. Let’s continue to write interesting pieces without giving up. They will surely be recognized. However, predicting what will be recognized is quite uncertain.
This work is like a culmination of my previous novels.
I borrowed settings I liked, favored lines, the rhythm and pace of sentences, characters, and much more from my past works. I don’t think I’ll come up with anything more interesting than this from now on. That’s how I feel.
Thanks to everyone’s support, this work has been published as a book!
The first and second volumes of ‘Thrown into Another World: The Adventures of an Active Hunter from Hokkaido’ are available now. The concluding third volume is scheduled for release on November 19, 2020. Please look forward to that as well. It has been adapted into a manga by Cultmaga with art by Karutama, and the first volume of the manga is also currently available.
The second installment of the series, ‘Monsters Appeared in Hokkaido, So Local Hunters Took Action’ has concluded!
Set in modern-day Hokkaido, since Shin didn’t die and go to another world that time, this time another world has come to Hokkaido… At this rate, the cows at the municipal ranch might be eaten!
Shin, a municipal office worker, teams up with the local hunting association members to cooperate with the police, government, and even the self-defense forces to exterminate the monsters from another world. This is a completely new story in a spin-off style.
