Chapter 46 Elven village wedding
Upon returning to the village, we were delighted to find that Milno-kun and Kano-chan’s new home was already completed!
It was built as an extension to the main house, creating a beautiful new log cabin!
Saran and I measured the size of the bed with a ruler, and today, we begin our preparations for the wedding.
In the village, the preparations for the celebration have started. Meanwhile, at our home, Saran is covered in wool while I’m covered in feathers as we work on making the futons.
We neatly arrange the tools and items we bought for the new house in the rooms.
On the day of the wedding, from the morning onwards, we have a grand celebration with delicious food and plenty of drinks. We also generously share the alcohol we brought from the town.
“Yay! This is exactly what I wanted!”
A gift from me to Milno-kun, kept secret from Kano-chan.
A large magic lamp is hanging as part of the present.
When you rub it, something like a “magic lamp” doesn’t come out, okay? It’s just a convenient lamp that glows when you inject a bit of magical power into it. Since there are very few humans who can use magic, it wasn’t popular and was quite cheap. But it’s perfect for the elves who can use magic effortlessly. As a joint thank-you gift for building both mine and Saran’s home and Milno-kun and Kano-chan’s room, we bought lamps for every household in the village as a celebratory gesture and distributed them to everyone.
“Ahh!”
Kano-chan exclaimed in excitement as she peeked into the new home.
“Why is the lamp a problem? You secretly added it to Milno-kun’s shopping list, didn’t you?”
“I told you it’s not allowed!!”
“Why is it not allowed?”
“It’s obvious, isn’t it? We’re newlyweds, it’s our wedding night, and everyone will come to peek!”
“But without this, I wouldn’t know what to do!”
“I absolutely don’t want it!”
“You went to watch Shin-san and Saran-san’s wedding night too!”
Is that so, Kano-chan…
“What are you two talking about?!”
The village chief arrives and scolds them.
Wait, why is the village chief here in the first place?
“For the village, the marriage and procreation of young people are crucial endeavors! It is a cherished village tradition for all villagers to bless and witness this. Don’t start complaining now!”
Wait, are you just a pervert…
And now even the village chief is eager to see this event…
“Don’t you dare sleep together before marriage! Know the rules! Leave immediately!”
“Oh nooo!”
Kano-chan runs away. Ah, hahaha.
“(Milno-kun…)” (whispering)
“(Yes?)”
“(Wasn’t it customary for young men to undergo a night-time ritual before marriage?)”
“(…Kano said it’s absolutely not allowed, so I ended up refusing…)”
Kano-chan is quite the jealous type. I also declined, though.
The village’s young people look at their new home with envy.
Shiny dishes, cooking utensils, a cozy bed, and various daily necessities – all the things we bought from the town.
“I wish we had this…”
“If you like it, then hurry up and get married and start having children! Stop idling around and settle down! The young folks these days are just…!”
…Do we have to prepare this every time there’s a wedding, village chief?
It’s too much work. This isn’t really an effective measure for dealing with the declining birthrate.
Do you even realize how big of an event it was this time?
At twilight, a serene wedding took place by the lake – a majestic, sacred, and beautiful ceremony.
“To the newlyweds, may happiness be with you.”
As the village chief made the declaration, everyone joyfully jumped into the lake, splashing water all around the couple. Of course, Saran and I joined in the fun.
“Congratulations!”
“Congratulations!”
“Eeeek!”
Milno-kun and Kano-chan laughed as they ran away.
Ah, hahaha.
“Aren’t you going to watch it, Shin?”
“…No, I won’t.”
It’s such a strange custom. Even if it’s part of the village tradition, I prefer not to be involved in this.
“I’ll go! If they get to watch, then I’ll watch back!”
What kind of reasoning is that?
“Good night. I’m going to sleep now.”
“Already?”
Hush… hush… hush…
Ah, it’s been a while since I had such a peaceful night…
Clunk.
In the late hours of the night, Saran returned.
Her clothes made a soft rustling sound as she slipped into the bed.
“…Shin, are you awake?”
“…I just woke up.”
She embraced me tightly.
“…Shin, marrying you was the best decision I ever made. I truly mean it.”
What on earth happened?
“Hold me close, please.”
Sure, if that’s what you want.
“Shin-san!”
The next morning, I noticed Milno-kun with teary eyes, chasing after me.
“What’s wrong?”
“Please tell me!”
“Tell you what?”
“I’m begging you!”
“I’m saying, tell me what you want to know!”
I’m sorry, but I can’t deal with any more troubles.
I ran away at full speed.

・Remington M700 .375 H&H Magnum
In reality, the .375 H&H Magnum for the Remington M700 was discontinued after this 50th-anniversary model, and it’s no longer in production. It is a premium and memorial model. Nowadays, it has been surpassed by the more powerful and accurate .338 Remington Ultra Magnum.
The .375 H&H Magnum was introduced in 1912. Although it is not the most accurate ammunition, it has gained a certain level of popularity due to its historical reliability, powerful stopping power, and ease of use in taking down large African game animals for over a century. It strikes a good balance as a magnum cartridge amid the plethora of magnum ammunition available today.
Despite its confusing name, it is entirely different from the .357 Magnum revolver cartridge.
The magazine holds three rounds. It is a short to medium-range, anti-large-monster battle rifle capable of penetrating even the core of a Lyle Slime, impervious to swords and spears. The ammunition costs $2.5 per round.
You might think there are countless modern large-caliber rounds available, but consider that the .22 LR Long Rifle, beloved by beginners, was introduced in 1887, the popular 9mm Parabellum in 1902, the .45 ACP in 1905, the .30-06 Springfield commonly used for hunting in Hokkaido in 1906, and the .50 BMG used for Barrett anti-materiel rifles, famous in Hollywood, was developed in 1910. It is not unusual for ammunition developed over a century ago to still be on the frontline.
In fact, many users consider these ammunition types that have remained on the frontline for a century to be much more reliable than the latest ammunition.
By the way, “Magnum” originally means a bottle twice the size of a standard bottle for alcoholic drinks. The term was used in gun manufacturers’ marketing to imply, “It’s filled with a lot of gunpowder.” There is no clear criterion for what ammunition can be called “Magnum.”
