Chapter 13: The Power of the Ayakura Family
“Excuse me.”
He stood there at a loss in front of the fainted Senior Yami when the basement door opened.
The woman in the suit named Anzu appeared once again.
She looked down at Senior Yami, who lay there half-naked, and let out a sigh.
“That’s so typical of the young lady.”
Typical, really? As if this sort of thing happened every day.
“I’ve already contacted the school. It has been reported that both you, Master Aotori, and the young lady are absent due to illness.”
“…I see.”
In that case, going to school now would only lead to more complications. He had no choice but to give up on today’s classes.
Anzu took a smartphone and a uniform out of the paper bag she held in her hand.
“Here you are. The data transfer has been done perfectly. Please rest assured.”
She was so thorough. When this woman had left earlier, both the uniform and the smartphone should still have been intact.
It seemed they had planned this in advance.
“Thanks.”
He took them and immediately turned on the smartphone. He checked the contents.
The app layout, photos, contacts, and chat history were all back to normal. The only difference was that Raimu Tendo’s and Iori Ototsuka’s contact information had been deleted.
“I’m sorry for the trouble the young lady has caused you.”
She bowed her head.
It felt so perfunctory that he did not sense even a shred of apologetic intent.
He did not think “sorry for the trouble” made it all okay…
As a minimal act of resistance, he said,
“What would you do if I reported this whole series of events?”
“We have taken thorough measures to ensure no evidence remains, including surveillance cameras. Please feel free to do as you like.”
In other words, no one would believe him no matter what he said. Compared to the Ayakura family, his social credibility was less than a speck of dust. Resisting would be pointless.
“Young lady, excuse me for touching you.”
Anzu crouched down beside Senior Yami. Then, with unbelievable ease, she scooped up her body.
“I will take the young lady to her bedroom. As for you, Master Aotori, we will see you home.”
“Sigh. Then I’ll gladly accept your offer.”
He took off the uniform Senior Yami had sliced open and put on the new one.
As he climbed the stairs from the basement, the dim space gave way suddenly to dazzling light that struck his eyes.
He emerged into a corridor that could be mistaken for a museum. The floor was covered in an expensive deep-red carpet. The ceiling lights were ornate chandeliers.
Whoa… It was his first time here, but the Ayakura family estate was insane.
“Proceed straight down that way to the entrance. I will lay the young lady down, so please wait there.”
“Um, what about my bag?”
“It has been prepared in the car. Rest assured.”
That was a relief. He had no desire to buy replacement textbooks.
He parted ways with Anzu and proceeded down the corridor as instructed.
He reached the entrance. It too was extravagantly luxurious. The ceiling soared in an atrium, with staircases leading to the second floor at both ends. He waited for Anzu in front of the massive front door.
In the meantime, he reflected on the day’s events. He had been abducted, imprisoned, threatened with a blade, hugged and embraced, and Senior Yami had fainted.
The current time was just before noon. All of this had happened in a mere half day. He just wanted to go home now and rest quietly.
“—Sorry to keep you waiting.”
Anzu returned. Senior Yami was nowhere to be seen. She must have laid her down in the bedroom.
“Then, I will drive you.”
Outside the entrance, a different car from the van used for the abduction was parked. It was a luxury sedan.
He got into the back seat. His school bag sat on the seat.
Anzu took the driver’s seat, and the car started moving. The scenery outside the window flowed by. After a stretch of silence, Anzu spoke.
“The young lady looked so happy.”
He could see her smiling faintly in the rearview mirror. It was a crime, so he could not praise it, but this woman seemed to care for Senior Yami in her own way.
“I see.”
That was all he could say.
It took about twenty minutes from the Ayakura estate to arrive in front of his house. There was little foot traffic in the residential neighborhood on a weekday.
Of course, it was the time when ordinary people were at school or work. He felt a twinge of guilt.
“Thank you for today. Until next time, then.”
“I’d rather not see you again.”
He responded to the farewell greeting with sarcasm as he got out of the car.
Anzu bowed her head through the window, and the car drove off immediately.
“Sigh…”
He felt an overwhelming wave of fatigue. But because of Iori, things had turned into a fight-like atmosphere with Kokoa too, so he could not exactly relax at home…
Come to think of it, what did Kokoa usually do when no one was home?
He stood in front of the entrance. He inserted the key and opened the door.
“I’m ho—”
“Kaname big brooo! I looooove yoooouuu♡♡♡♡♡♡”
However, his homecoming greeting was drowned out by a scream from the second floor. It was slightly muffled, but there was no mistaking it as Kokoa’s voice.
