Chapter 10: Collapsing Everyday
It was three in the morning. I was still awake.
I could not sleep at all. No matter how tightly I clutched my favorite body pillow or how many times I tossed and turned, the image of Iori’s flushed red face floated behind my eyelids. The sensation of that kiss, the feel of her tongue clung to me and would not let go.
In the end, morning came without a wink of sleep.
“I wanna skip…”
My body felt heavy. My relationships with Tendo and the senior were already more than enough to handle, so what would happen to my daily life if Iori joined the mix too?
Surrounded by three girls–saying it like that made me sound like a light novel protagonist, but I could never call it a dreamlike everyday.
In my case, all of them were menhera.
But as a student, I had to go to school. Meeting Iori would be incredibly awkward, but I could not skip forever.
I finished changing and left my room. I passed Kokoa in the hallway.
“Good morning, Kokoa.”
“――――”
There was no reply. She would not even meet my eyes. Since yesterday’s incident, Kokoa had not spoken a word to me.
I headed to the living room. Normally, the bento she made would sit on the table, but today, nothing was there.
A bento boycott, huh…
I would have to grab lunch at the school cafeteria.
I put on my shoes at the entrance. When I turned back, Kokoa looked down at me from the top of the stairs.
“I’m off.”
“――――”
Even when I left the house, there was still no reply.
I dropped my shoulders and dragged my heavy feet out the door.
I walked along the narrow residential street. It was rush hour for commuting and going to school, but this area was a bit off the main road. Foot traffic was sparse.
On that narrow path, the sound of a car approached from behind.
A van passed by my side–no, it screeched to a halt right next to me.
What the?
The sliding door opened.
“Excuse me.”
“Whoa! What the hell!”
A woman in a suit grabbed my arm from inside the car. Even as I resisted, her strength was unbelievable for a woman. With the efficiency of a martial arts throw, she shoved me into the vehicle, and I tumbled onto the back seat.
The door closed. The car started moving.
–Huh.
This was a kidnapping?
Out in the open in a morning alleyway?
I did not think my family was that rich…
As I sat up, a familiar voice came from behind.
“Good day, Aotori.”
In the rearmost back seat, Yami Ayakura sat with her legs elegantly crossed. She wore her uniform.
This was her doing…
I glanced sideways at the woman in the suit. Her face was perfectly expressionless. She had not stirred a bit in this situation. Some kind of bodyguard, probably.
“What is this about?”
“Now, now. No need to be so on guard.”
The senior waved her hand lightly.
“Rest assured. I will not do anything bad to you.”
“No, you’ve already done plenty of bad things. This is a kidnapping, right?”
“What a harsh way to put it. It is just a ride.”
“Do you drag people into cars against their will for a ride?”
“It was an emergency.”
The senior’s expression turned serious.
“You still have not sorted out yesterday’s events, have you?”
“Well…”
I had not even realized Iori harbored feelings for me until then, so there was no way I could sort it out in just one night.
“I have not either. I thought about it all night. Why did things turn out like that?”
The senior placed a hand on her breasts.
“And I reached one conclusion.”
“A conclusion?”
“You are too kind, Aotori. You are kind to everyone, so people misunderstand. Yesterday’s Ototsuka did too. She mistook your kindness for special affection.”
“But I am just living my normal life.”
“–That is why.”
She never listened to what people said.
The senior fixed her gaze straight on me as she spoke.
“From now on, be kind only to me.”
“Huh?”
“Be cold to other women, and kind only to me. Then no one will misunderstand anymore.”
What was this person saying?
I repeated the words I had told her countless times since last year.
“I cannot see you as a romantic interest.”
“If we start dating, that will change too.”
“That is why I have said over and over that we cannot date in the first place…”
There was no trial period in human relationships. It was not a subscription service, and a contract with Yami Ayakura would not be easy to cancel.
“You will get used to it.”
“It is not about getting used to it.”
“It will be fine. I will make you happy, Aotori. –Anzu.”
The senior signaled to the woman in the suit sitting next to me.
“Please.”
“Yes, miss.”
At once, the woman called Anzu moved swiftly. In the cramped car, I was pinned down in an instant.
“Hey…! What are you–!”
“I am sorry.”
As I looked up, a damp cloth came into view.
No way, this was that thing from the movies…
“Mmph…!”
The cloth covered my nose and mouth.
“Mmm! Mmmph!”
I resisted desperately, but the woman’s arms did not budge an inch. She was a pro. This person was absolutely some kind of professional. Yami Ayakura, where did she even find someone like this…
My consciousness grew hazy. My vision blurred, and strength drained from my body.
“Good night.”
Someone stroked my head. The senior’s hand, probably.
…Why was there not a single normal woman around me?
With that thought as my last, my consciousness sank into darkness.
