Aiming to be the perfect butler for my lady - Chapter 91- Another condition
Alatia was now getting a little anxious. It has been over five minutes since Kyle went down to pick Charlotte, but he hasn’t shown up. It only took him about a minute to make the round trip, given he had to take a moment of break to recharge himself. However, it was getting definitely a little too late.
The Academy staff and several instructors arrived at the spot, and some of them were now preparing to dive in, given they also knew that it was unnatural for the masked man to spend this long inside.
Alatia suddenly asked the one who was in charge of her class, “If possible, can I also accompany you?” She knew it was absurd to ask them that, and the fact she was showing such concern over the masked man might give away Kyle’s identity.
However, none of those reasons stopped her from asking that. Her heart is in turmoil, and unless she doesn’t see Kyle in front of her, safe and sound, that heavy feeling wouldn’t subdue.
However, just as anybody expected, “Impossible. Any student is not allowed to dive back in. This labyrinth is unpredictable.”
Being the Princess had its demerits. Her safety is viewed as a very important factor that’s why she could sense several instructors ready to block her if she decided to jump back in.
“What is happening here?” The domineering voice of an old man gathered every eye in his direction.
The figure of an old man with a white beard came into view, and currently, his eyes were drawn toward the lifeless body of Aron, which was being examined by the medic.
Richard frowned; this was not within the expectations from the very first venture of the first-year students.
Wordlessly, he stepped toward the labyrinth entrance before closing his eyes and placing his hand a few inches apart from the translucent entryway.
Several magic circles formed around the old man’s hand, each one of them alive and moving, while the Headmaster kept his eyes closed.
It took half a minute before the magic circles disintegrated and the Headmaster announced, “The runes were tampered to trigger with the magical signature of a certain individual.”
As usual, his investigation speed and results always make people gasp in astonishment.
Clara covered her mouth in shock before she slowly uttered, “Which student, Headmaster.”
Most of the students expected Alatia’s name to be called out, but,
“Logan was on the target.”
*******
Having no magical signature has its own benefits. Kyle was able to tread through the labyrinth without getting noticed by the monsters.
They were so huge that visibly spotting the little Kyle was near impossible; unless he committed some blunder.
“Tracking has never been my forté…” Inside this mage-like labyrinth, Kyle was moving mindlessly and keeping his senses alert to locate Charlotte as soon as he could.
He doesn’t know why this girl is reacting so dramatically to the things related to him and Alatia. In the first place, does she even know that Kyle is the same person who saved her? Or was she assured because of the similar wooden mask that he wore now and on that day?
No, Charlotte wouldn’t have reacted so strongly based on assumptions.
Then how…and why? Did she, just like Clara, fall in love with him as well?
‘That would be disastrous…’
*KLANG*
Hearing the collision from the far East, Kyle halted in his path and advanced towards the source of the noise.
Not more than ten seconds it took and Kyle was met by the figure of a large grasshopper currently exchanging blows with the familiar brunette.
‘A high A-rank, huh…’ Kyle discerned that Charlotte’s specialty to nullify the spells wouldn’t be useful against this one who solely relied on its strong and sharp claws to dig the life out of its foes.
Charlotte, surprisingly, was holding her ground while delivering minimal damage in response. However, maybe she had been taken by surprise, her left shoulder was bleeding badly, and she was breathing unsteadily.
Her condition suggested she wouldn’t be able to defeat the Hopper.
‘Let’s see…’
******
Charlotte staggered back, her left shoulder throbbing with pain as blood seeped through her torn sleeve. The large mutant grasshopper loomed over her, its mandibles clicking menacingly. The creature’s hard, green exoskeleton glinted in the light, and its powerful legs twitched, ready to strike again.
Despite the pain, Charlotte’s eyes blazed with a wild intensity. She gripped her weapon tightly in her right hand, refusing to back down. The grasshopper lunged at her, its massive body propelling forward with terrifying speed. Charlotte sidestepped just in time, swinging her weapon at its side, but the blow glanced off its tough armor.
Clicking her tongue, she twirled the dagger in her hand and augmented it with Wind Element which she copied from the Ape back then.
*TING*
The dagger finally penetrated the strong skin of the hopper, but it was too early to celebrate as, in retaliation, the hopper bashed its legs on the ground, creating several rounds of shock waves and throwing Charlotte to the ground.
“Ugh…” Trying to get back up on her feet, Charlotte cursed herself for being such a pathetic person. She came deeper into the labyrinth to satiate her rage but here…
*BRRRRIUK*
The slow and lean throat vibration of the hopper resonated as Charlotte flipped on her back and found the hopper descending its massive hind leg on her.
However, just as she thought she would get sent into the world of pain, the large creature disappeared from her view, and in its place, a familiar mask-wearing man appeared.
Charlotte stared at him with frustration and grief evident in her eyes. She looked like a child to Kyle, who had been wronged by her parents because they didn’t take her on a shopping trip.
Heaving a sigh, he took out a vial of potion before crouching down beside her.
She turned her face away; rejecting the help.
Kyle gently pinched her chin and turned her face in his direction.
Although reluctant, Charlotte turned her head in his direction and stared at those two familiar eyes through the two holes carved in the mask.
Those eyes rendered her motionless, and without even realizing it, she moved her hand to remove his mask—only to be stopped.
Charlotte smiled before telling him, “I know who you are. Why are you still hiding yourself, Kyle?”
Kyle didn’t show any reaction; rather, he fed her the potion and asked, “Can you move?”
“Don’t you want to know why I target them?”
Her counter-question made him curious as he remained silent.
Charlotte leaned forward before whispering with a smile, “Because Aron was targeting you by teaming up with your brother.”
Kyle’s eyes widened from behind the mask as he reflexively asked, “How do you know about that?!”
Charlotte laughed, “Although I enrolled recently, I had my eyes on you since the beginning, Kyle.”
Kyle narrowed his eyes before warning her, “If you ever hurt someone else because of me, then I swear I will never see your face.”
Charlotte lost all her vigor and her eyes became round. The way her expression shifted looked cinematic as she gulped and instantly responded,
“I-I won’t…so in return, c-can you come and meet me once in a while from now?”
“…”
