“Where are you!? Come out!! I know you’re here!!”

“Crap, crap, crap…!”

As I watched dozens of soldiers pass by, I hid behind a massive bookshelf, holding my breath and clenching my teeth.

By the way, what makes this situation so bad is…

“I can’t use magic here…!!”

For some reason, I couldn’t use any magic in this space.

Using the fallen bookshelf as a platform, I jumped and grabbed onto the railing of the stairs leading to the second floor.

As I sprinted up the stairs to the second floor, I scanned my surroundings. 

If there was a window, I could jump out and use magic.

As I heard a scream behind me, I rushed upstairs.

The third floor was different from the previous ones. There was just a single bookshelf in a wide, empty space, and I couldn’t see any stairs leading further up.

“Damn, a dead end!? I need to turn back right away—”

As I turned to head back to the stairs, I saw that the soldiers were already climbing up.

I briefly considered jumping down, but without magical support, the fall would probably kill me.
