After rebirth, I confessed to the losing heroine - Chapter 68- Confession

Recently Yuichi couldn’t discern Hiroto much. His outer expression mostly remains bored and indifferent that’s why Yuichi generally couldn’t discover what Hiroto thinks these days. However, at the moment anyone including Yuichi could tell that Hiroto was quite happy.

Grinning like an idiot Hiroto hummed an unknown tone as they made their way toward the station where they would unite with Kaori.

“Someone is looking quite happy today? What’s the matter?” Yuichi asked with a light shoulder jab to bring his friend back to earth.

“A single dog like you won’t understand why I am happy. So let it be.”

“…” That indifferent side appears out of nowhere and leaves Yuichi speechless.

The monetary halt Yuichi was forced to take, was broken as he hastened his steps and hit Hiroto’s back with a strong punch.

“Fuck! Are you bull or what?” Hiroto winced because that strike was intended to hurt.

Yuichi snickered and crossed his arms on his chest. Satisfied.

“That’s what you get being cocky.”

“Yeah, yeah whatever you asswipe.”

Hiroto rolled his eyes and they continued walking in silence. If something changed then it was that humming that Hiroto abandoned.

Yuichi tried again, “No seriously, what happened?”

Hiroto sighed. He knew hiding it from Yuichi was impossible since when it comes to gossip, this guy isn’t any lesser than neighborhood aunties.

“I am getting engaged to Miyuki.”

“….oh.”

Hiroto frowned as he spat, “What’s with that spiritless reaction?”

Yuichi shrugged, “I mean I knew it would happen sooner or later. Anyway, congratulations. I will have you pay at a high-end restaurant after school.”

Hiroto didn’t say anything to that but he was considering throwing a celebration party and would invite some of his close friends. Well, if only Miyuki would be fine with it.

There was a brief silence between them, before Yuichi hesitantly asked, “Hey…Hiro. Last night I came to a realization.”

Hiroto raised his brows and hummed for the speaker to continue.

With his eyes drawn towards the ground, Yuichi’s hold on his bag strap tightened as he uttered some words that he only can tell to Hiroto,

“I think…I like Kaori.”

“….oh.”

This time Yuichi frowned and glared at Hiroto for such an unenergetic response. But upon seeing Hiroto’s narrowed eyes, which said ‘Come at me if you dare’ Yuichi remembered that this bastard was just taking his revenge.

Yuichi sighed and soon lost motivation to say anything about it. Rather he focused on the matter that he was worried about,

“I don’t know how I should tell her that my feelings for her have changed so suddenly. ” Glancing in Hiroto’s direction Yuichi asked in slight anxiety, “Will she think I am not strong-willed and can fall for someone easily?”

Just two weeks ago, when Kaori confessed to him and asked whether he also liked her, Yuichi nearly rejected her. However, Kaori still insisted on going out with him on a trial basis, which was supposed to help Yuichi realize his feelings towards her.

And now, just a little over ten days have passed, and Yuichi feels that Kaori’s existence in his life is non-replaceable and he likes her more than just as a friend.

Hiroto remained silent for a moment, before he asked Yuichi, “What do you naturally feel about Kaori? And why did you fall for her so suddenly?”

Yuichi heaved a deep breath and recalled the incident that made him realize how important Kaori was to him,

“I guess it was the time when I helped Kaori to get out of some terrible situation and nearly lost her…that I realized that Kaori is someone I care for, more than my own life.”

Thinking back to that incident with that blondie, Yuichi felt rage building inside and a chill of fear passing down his spine as he remembered how helpless and broken Kaori looked in that bastard’s clutches.

“Then we began meeting regularly as usual and I felt, ‘Isn’t this how I feel with all my other friends?’. But no, I was wrong. Kaori is special to me. Meeting her regularly, chatting with her on the phone, or seeing her face every day is special to me. ”

With a smile lifting the edges of his lips, Yuichi added, “And recently I got to know that being separated from her even for one day can be really….really painful. Like it felt, I wasn’t being myself. Something was amiss.”

Taking another audible breath, he concluded, “So yeah, I think without me realizing Kaori has become a very important part of my life. And if this feeling isn’t love, then I don’t wanna find what true love is.”

There was a soft smile on Yuichi’s face as he finally voiced out his honest thoughts to someone.

If not for Hiroto then Yuichi wouldn’t have anyone else to share these thoughts. Not even Hanabi…. because of certain reasons.

“Hmm…this much should be good for a confession.”

Yuichi frowned upon hearing that and was about to say something when suddenly his eyes widened upon seeing Hiroto holding his phone.

Yuichi instantly held Hiroto with his arm and looked in his phone….only to find what he dreaded to come true

On Hiroto’s phone screen, a single name flashed near the top and a red button to disconnect the call near the bottom.

It was Kaori.

“Now hear the rest of it in a few minutes.” Saying so Hiroto disconnected the call since they were about to meet Kaori after crossing three streets.

Pocketing his phone, Hiroto turned to look at Yuichi who had his eyes still widened and looked at him like Hiroto had done something to shatter his world.

Hiroto shrugged away Yuichi’s hand and casually said, “Well, I am an efficient guy.”

Yuichi balled his fist and finally, the limitation of his tolerance broke out, “Shove that efficiency up your ass! Why did you do that?”

Hiroto gave another casual shrug and replied, “I would have suggested you confess and you would have confessed anyway. I just hastened the process and allowed Kaori to hear what you genuinely feel.”

Although Yuichi was annoyed, what Hiroto said made sense. Maybe in front of Kaori, he might not have been able to completely honest. Yuichi wanted to start his relationship with Kaori based on the complete truth.

Yuichi was about to heave a sigh and let go of the matter….only to hear Hiroto saying,

“Well also, I did this partly because I was kinda pissed at you for reacting so blandly.”

….as Yuichi thought, this guy isn’t someone who he can understand these days.
