After rebirth, I confessed to the losing heroine - Chapter 52- The past
After Ryuuske left, the atmosphere of the Shirogane residence became a lot more livelier and the strange tension between Hiroto and Souma suddenly disappeared.
Initially, Souma expected that Hiroto would be a lot nervous and the scope of their discussion would be narrowed down. However, his expectations were betrayed for good.
Not only can Hiroto hold a decent conversation with people older than him, but he also has a wide range of knowledge about current affairs, business, and even those topics that women like to talk about.
Not only Souma but Yuki was having a great time talking to Hiroto, to the point they both forgot about their daughter.
“…yes, I used to sleep late. However, thanks to Miyuki, I sleep nearly at eleven and wake up early as well.” Hiroto said, holding Miyuki’s hand tenderly in his hold.
And unlike before Souma didn’t mind it at all.
As a father, he could see how Hiroto’s tone turns extremely gentle when he involves Miyuki in the conversation or when he answers to her. The way he softly gazes at her, there is no doubt that Hiroto is very fond of his daughter.
“Miyu-chan has always been a diligent child, so it’s no surprise that she wants to discipline you as well.”
“Mom.” Miyuki protested. Although she likes to do everything on time, it isn’t like she forces Hiroto to follow her lifestyle as well.
“I don’t mind, Yuki-san. After all, if we want to have a good relationship it’s necessary to make some changes according to your partner’s demands. And it isn’t just me who has changed….even Miyuki now sometimes skips classes to chat with me~”
“—!!”
“Fufu~”
While Miyuki glared at Hiroto with her eyes widened and her hand firmly clutching his, the elder two just smiled at them.
It was really surprising that someone as diligent and meticulous as Miyuki to skip classes, however, neither Souma nor his wife had a problem with it.
The way Miyuki always burdened herself with the title of Shirogane attached to her name, from Souma’s perspective, these small changes were most welcomed.
“Madame, the lunch is prepared.”
A maid arrived by Yuki’s side before informing her.
“Ah, it’s already three. The time just flew by.”
As Yuki got up she called out, “Miyu-chan, come with me. Let’s check the preparations.”
“But mom…” Miyuki clung to Hiroto and showed her reluctance to leave him alone.
However, Hiroto noticed that it wasn’t only because Yuki wanted to check the lunch preparations, that’s why she was inviting Miyuki.
Turning his eyes in Miyuki’s direction he uttered in a whispering tone, “Go with her.”
“…okay.” Reluctantly she let go of him, before getting up and following her mother.
Once the two ladies along with the maid left, a brief silence ensued between Souma and Hiroto.
Hiroto knew that the older one wanted to say something to him as such he waited patiently.
After half a minute of halt, Souma said, “Hiroto, I think you must be aware of the tradition that we follow, right?”
Hiroto nodded.
“In today’s time, casual dating could only be regarded as a thing until a child doesn’t become an adult. After that, numerous suitors would begin to send their proposals one after another. ”
Hiroto was aware of this strange system that the modern Japanese of this world followed. Children of upper circles generally get engaged by the age of fifteen, and soon after turning an adult they marry.
It was a tradition that mostly everyone in the upper circle followed.
That’s why, even though Souma doesn’t want to force his daughter to marry next year, he couldn’t stop other families from sending proposals.
Hiroto understood that.
That’s why he assured him, “Souma-san, I am serious about my relationship with Miyuki. Although it would sound pretty immature of me to say this, when I have only started dating her three weeks ago, I intend on marrying Miyuki when the time comes.”
Souma was a bit stunned hearing the commitment from the boy.
For a moment he wondered whether Hiroto was of the same age as Miyuki.
The determination and certainty in his eyes were evident. Hiroto seemed well set on making Miyuki his bride.
“…Hiroto…have you never detested Miyuki or me for the sudden annulment of your engagement?”
The discussion that occurred regarding the annulment, was done between Souma and Takeda Ryouske. Hiroto and Miyuki never were involved and out of nowhere, the news of engagement revocation was dropped on the two teenagers.
While Miyuki looked pretty unaffected at that time, Hiroto seemed quite distraught.
However, Hiroto’s response eased Souma’s worries,
“Not even once, did I blame you or Miyuki for what happened. Although I was upset at that moment since Miyuki never reacted to the annulment, it doesn’t mean I blame her for it.”
With a soft smile, he added, “It was only me who started liking Miyuki at that time. However, since there was nothing between us in the first place, it was no surprise that Miyuki never seemed much affected.”
Heaving a sigh, Hiroto continued, “But things are different now. And about the past, then I don’t think about it anymore.”
Souma felt relieved that Hiroto didn’t use superficial words here. He was genuine and quite direct with his feelings. Even though he never blamed Miyuki, Hiroto indeed was upset when she didn’t react to the annulment.
In a way, Hiroto’s reaction was justifiable.
“If that’s the case, then are you willing to get engaged with Miyuki again?”
“Yes, I am.”
Souma couldn’t help chuckling a bit, hearing the overly enthusiastic response from Hiroto.
Hiroto has been behaving so maturely until now, that this rare childish and over-excited side seemed refreshing.
However, Souma didn’t tease Hiroto about it(for now) and said,
“Alright then, I will talk to your parents after the award ceremony tomorrow.”
Hiroto couldn’t contain his elation as he nodded with a wide and bright smile.
This meeting seemed to have gone in a much better way than Hiroto expected.
