After rebirth, I confessed to the losing heroine - Chapter 106- Reunion
[Yuichi’s POV:]
It has been a long time since I have come here. Almost three years since I walked out of this door and never looked back. I never had the intention to nor the situation ever forced me to come back here.
However, now, I have a reason.
Hanabi.
When I wasn’t able to contact her, I suspected that something must have happened. Her involvement with the school invasion matter was a very risky game. She could have been caught by the anti-terrorism team or might have been captured by news channel cameras.
The people she was dealing with were assailants from foreign countries who invaded the school with the intention of mass killing. Naturally, as a father, Hotarou-san would get concerned about his daughter.
And now, he has made a strict decision to detach her from me. Completely.
In a way, that was the best option. After all, not only during the last incident, I have involved Hanabi in many other illegal stuff like hacking public cameras and all.
Hanabi was the daughter of a criminal but that doesn’t make her a criminal as well. However, while helping me, she has indeed broken the law numerous times. So in a way, my exclusion from her life was a good thing….
….but no. I cannot part ways with my best friend. She was there when I was nothing but a mindless thing moving on instincts. I was broken beyond repair when I lost my family. She brought me back to life by slowly providing me the warmth which I thought I had been robbed of. She is the reason why I can trust and love people and why I look forward to a better future.
She has given me a life and now, her existence has become a vital necessity for me. If Hanabi herself says that she no longer wants to talk to me, then I will back off. However, if she was being restricted against her will…
[Hey man, why does it seem you are thinking something oninious, again?]
The voice that came from the earbud brought me back to reality as I realised where my thought process was leading me.
Not good. Can’t let that side resurface. Not only Hanabi but Kaori and Minami would get hurt to see that side of me.
“It’s nothing.” I briefly replied to Hiroto since I couldn’t let the others around me know that I was talking to someone on the phone.
The earbud was something Hanabi gifted me. It looked like an ear stud so visual surveillance couldn’t discern it as a piece of communication.
Thankfully I wasn’t checked by an electromagnetic detector.
Currently, I was sitting on the couch wordlessly and waiting for the man who provided me the chance to start a new life.
“Boss is here.” The right-hand man of Hotarou-san, whom I know very well, announced the latter’s arrival.
I got up from my seat as I saw a familiar face appearing from the shadows and taking the high-backed seat before gesturing me to sit back down.
Hotarou-san didn’t look much old and apart from that extra tattoo he had in the middle of his brows, I couldn’t find a single difference in him.
“I hope you are doing well, Hotarou-san.”
“That…I am. What about you brat? Are you tired of your boring school life already?”
His tone suggested that he was all fine taking me back, even though I didn’t know why. I was a good fighter, I know. However, it doesn’t mean I was almighty. I have lost several times as well, and even in the gang, I was merely one of those golden ducks who laid eggs through underground fights.
Well, I didn’t ponder on that matter and came to the point, “Hotarou-san, can I ask you why you prohibited Hanabi from meeting me?”
The eyes of the right-hand man, who goes by the name Jack, narrowed. However, I didn’t pay attention to him and kept my gaze straight at my ex-boss.
The person took out his usual cigar, and Jack lit it up after stepping forward.
“Yuichi…do you remember the conversation we had before you left?” The cloud of smoke he released hit my face, but I didn’t show any reaction since my whole focus was on the question he asked.
Without thinking much I responded, “That…if I decide to return, I won’t be allowed to leave again.”
“Correct, and as such, unless you are back with us, I am not going to answer a single shit you ask about. Got that?”
He pointed his fingers, which were holding the cigar in my direction while forwarding his final decision.
I leaned back in the seat. There was nothing unexpected that has occurred until now. But then again, if this had been the conclusion, I wouldn’t have come here in the first place.
[Yuichi, ask him.]
I inwardly took a deep breath and asked the man what Hiroto told me to ask, “The Steel Serpent…you have been trying to gain their control for the past ten years right?”
Jack flinched and moved forward with his hand already on the holster. However, Hotarou-san raised his hand and gestured for him to stop, which brought Jack to a halt.
Hotarou-san narrowed his eyes before uttering in a heavier voice like he just woke up, “Boy…do you have a death wish? You know how much it pisses me off to hear about those c*nts, right?”
The only gang in Shinjuku that hasn’t surrendered to Hotarou-san is the Steel Serpent gang. And that topic always makes Hotarou-san angered.
I leaned forward and held utmost certainty in my voice when I asked him, “If I can make them obey you….will you let me meet her again?”
Silence followed by my words. It was not me who suggested the idea of offering something in exchange for Hanabi. Hiroto said it would work. I told Hiroto that Hotarou-san wouldn’t agree to this at al-
“I accept your offer.”
“Eh?”
“Huh?” Along with Jack, I also exclaimed hearing the response from Hotarou-san. This was too unreal for me to believe, but thankfully, Hotarou-san soon clarified.
“Forget about obeying, if you even force them to collaborate with us, I will let Hanabi meet you like before.”
I couldn’t believe my ears. This man who prioritises his daughter over everything agreed to this deal this easily?! How in the seven world…
“But,” Like he heard my inner voice rejoicing which urged Hotarou-san’s expression to turn grim as he warned, “If you fail, you have to leave the school and come back to the gang.”
Hearing those words, I felt a chill run down my spine. I had no intention of returning to this world again and leaving my beloved girlfriends behind.
With my eyes turning serious, I responded, “I won’t disappoint you.”
