- Chapter 102- Engaged [End of the first half]
“How are you doing?” Kaori asked in slight concern.
It has been two days since that incident. The school was closed and the media was still repeating the same incident on television and newspapers. The government was in a state of panic since, in daylight, the group of assailants took over the school,l, and a student had to risk his life to save the others.
Amidst the chaos, the person who has been in the limelight was quite silent until now. Yuichi’s apartment was crowded by the media but for the past two days, he hasn’t shown his face in public at all.
Although Kaori was worried for him she couldn’t leave her house these days because of what happened. Her parents were all over the place that’s why she could contact him through texts.
[Doing good. What about you? Anything I should be concerned about?]
Hearing his casual voice, Kaori heaved a sigh in relief. She thought he might be still depressed after what he had to do back in school that day.
“Nothing. What about the ceremony? Are you going there today?”
Kaori was invited by Hiroto to the engagement ceremony today, and thankfully, she received permission from her family to go there. It would be a nice change for her—they said.
[Hell yeah. I can’t miss seeing that guy being all stupid in happiness today.]
Kaori chuckled upon hearing that. Given how stoic and indifferent Hiroto always remains, today, indeed, they might get to see his other side.
She remained silent for some time and Yuichi also didn’t say anything.
The silence between them wasn’t uncomfortable but it indeed was unnatural. They love to talk on regular occasions that’s why this silence conveyed the complicated emotions they were experiencing.
It was Yuichi who broke the ice and asked her in a quieter tone,
[Hey…were you able to sleep properly last night?]
“Barely.” Her answer came out like she was expecting him to ask that. However, it wasn’t the case…she was just thinking the same thing to ask that’s why her response was so quick.
From the other side, Yuichi hummed before he suggested,
[Before going to the ceremony, wanna come to my apartment? Just…the two of us?]
Her heartbeat rose to hear the proposition. She was nervous; however, it was also true that the situation she was going through, can be cured by him. The complex emotions and memories that haunt her these days, she can only find an escape from it with Yuichi’s help.
Maybe she took longer than normal to respond which urged Yuichi to say,
[If you don’t want to-]
“I will be there by twelve!”

The day was special. A couple who have been madly in love with each other was going to be tied in an official knot today with a promise that they would walk beside each other for the rest of their lives.
The venue, which was booked by the Shirogane family, wasn’t huge, but its location and decorations were quite elegant and pleasing to the eyes.
The hall was decorated elegantly, capturing the essence of traditional Japanese beauty. Delicate floral arrangements of cherry blossoms and chrysanthemums adorned the space, their subtle fragrance mingling with the air. Soft, ambient light filtered through shoji screens, casting gentle shadows on the tatami mats that covered the floor.
Low wooden tables were meticulously set with intricate lacquerware, porcelain dishes, and sake cups, each piece a testament to exquisite craftsmanship. A scroll of calligraphy hung on one wall, its graceful characters depicting a poem about love and union. Nearby, a painted screen displayed a serene landscape, adding to the tranquil atmosphere.
In one corner, a small altar featured a white fan and a folding screen, symbols of the merging families. The overall decor was minimalist yet profoundly meaningful, reflecting the harmony and elegance of traditional Japanese aesthetics. The scene was a perfect blend of simplicity and sophistication, creating an atmosphere of intimate celebration and reverence.
The people gathered around and were chatting in whispers to not disturb the tranquillity of the place.
From Takeda’s side, there haven’t been many people who came since both Akiko and Ryuuske had broken off ties with their families. Only a few people, including Akiko’s mother and sister and Ryuuske’s nephew, have arrived with their families.
The rest were from the Shirogane side. Some important figures from the work, Yuki’s sisters and their families and many others.
Although there were more than fifty people the venue was big enough to comfortably accommodate the audience.
Yuichi and Kaori had also arrived some minutes ago but there was something off between them. Unlike usual they weren’t talking at all and glancing around with a red face.
Sitting on one side they were receiving a lot of looks. Some wanted to come forward and praise Yuichi for his bravery; however, seeing how the couple was fidgeting and being all embarrassed, they didn’t approach them and enjoyed the youthful sight from afar.
Amidst the busy atmosphere, the entrance of the main couple brought a sudden silence across the hall.
Everyone was looking at the two who walked hand in hand.
Miyuki was wearing a kimono white in shade with a golden floral pattern weaved on it—elevating the youthful charm and giving her a very pleasant vibe. Her hair was braided in a high bun with a wooden hairpin keeping her hair in place. A touch of makeup was everything required to make her look ethereal.
On her left was her fiancé, who was wearing formal attire, which was black in shade, and his hair was nearly combed towards the back. His crisp looks and wide shoulders seemed defined in the montsuki he wore.
There were smiles on their faces as they walked towards the stage.
The guests looked at them with awe and admiration. They looked so perfect beside each other that the photographer just forgot that they had to take pictures as well.
As they stood on the stage, Souma came forward and stood beside them.
He gave a short nod to Hiroto and cupped Miyuki’s cheek fondly, “You two look great.”
The man couldn’t help but feel a little emotional seeing his daughter getting engaged. The thought of letting her go after marriage made him feel sad.
Hiroto somehow understood the man’s emotions as he reassuringly said, “I will take good care of her, sir.”
Souma softly smiled and said, “I know you will.”
Turning toward the audience, Souma took a wine glass before addressing everyone, “Can I have your attention for a moment?”
Naturally, every eye was directed toward the man before Souma began,
“Thank you all for being here to celebrate this special occasion. Seeing our families come together to support these two wonderful people is truly heartwarming. To my Miyuki and Hiroto, we wish you endless happiness and a future filled with love and laughter. Here’s to the start of a beautiful journey together. Cheers!”
Everyone raised their glasses and wished the couple a happy life.
Hiroto glanced at his lover who was now officially engaged to him. Miyuki also looked at him with a face full of smiles.
Life has been challenging for them and surely it will become tougher in the future. But until they have each other, no trouble in this world could persist for long.
From today on, officially, Hiroto is Miyuki’s and Miyuki belongs to Hiroto.
