After rebirth, I confessed to the losing heroine - Chapter 100- His past~1
[The next day]
“So you really wanna hear it huh?” Inside her room, the duo sat with Miyuki intently listening to him.
Her eyes contained a determination which told how she wouldn’t let him go until he didn’t tell his secret to her.
Today was finally the day when Miyuki would get to know the reason behind Hiroto’s actions and why he always remained concerned about Yuichi. And most importantly, how they could regress in time.
Every question that has been bothering her and making her anxious for the past month will be answered today.
Hiroto sighed, unsure if she would like to hear what he was about to say. But a promise is a promise. He couldn’t back off now.
He held her hand gently before asking her, “Miyuki…what if I tell you that…I am not Takeda Hiroto but someone who has overtaken his body?”
“I would believe in you. After all, since the day you saved me, I have seen the drastic changes in your personality and behaviour.”
Her answer greatly shocked him. Hiroto never expected she would believe such a nonsensical theory and would also pinpoint evidence which could support his statement.
He looked at her for a good ten seconds before asking, “How can you believe in something so….impossible?”
Miyuki, in perplexion, tilted her head and said, “I have experienced time regression…why won’t I believe this?”
That makes sense—Hiroto inwardly muttered.
Heaving another sigh, he squeezed her hand a little and continued with his story, “Indeed…just as you said, that day the person who came to save you, wasn’t Hiroto. It was me…”
Miyuki smiled like the fresh blooming flower, which had Hiroto curious, “Why do you look so happy?”
“No…actually, I remembered how you were smiling in contentment when you saw me that day before fainting.”
Hearing her words, Hiroto felt shy as he rubbed the back of his head and uttered, “Well, I fell for you the moment I saw you. From Hiroto’s memories I knew you were beautiful but facing you in person was a whole other experience.”
Miyuki’s face turned red as well. She used her own and Hiroto’s hand to hide her face which was burning in embarrassment. Although she has been praised for her beauty many times, hearing it from Hiroto always accelerates her heart.
The sweet silence was broken by Hiroto as he continued, “So yeah…that day, my soul took over Takeda Hiroto’s body and our soul merged. And the being who sent me into this world gave me a single task,”
Miyuki’s smile turned stiff as she finished what he intended to say, “To protect Yuichi-kun.”
Hiroto’s mouth was parted as he slowly nodded and said, “That deity granted me the power to go back a day if things don’t go well. They wanted me to keep an eye on Yuichi and protect him from every danger.”
“And what if you fail?”
Hearing her shaking voice and witnessing her trembling eyes, Hiroto knew she was scared to hear his answer. However, as much as he didn’t want to scare her, he couldn’t lie to her either,
“I….would be sent back to my previous world…and we will never be able to see each-”
Miyuki pressed her hand against his mouth with tears rolling down her eyes. She couldn’t bear to listen to what he had to say. That possibility of not being able to meet Hiroto was scarier than death. She couldn’t even think of a day when she couldn’t see him. And…for the rest of her life….?
“Don’t…please…just don’t…”
Hiroto held her hand and detached it from his mouth. Bringing his hand to her face he softly wiped the tears and continued, “That’s why my priority always remains in helping Yuichi out. Until he is out of danger I can be here with you.”
Hiroto knew it was difficult for her to digest everything right away, but in a way, it was better for her to be aware of the reason behind his actions. The next time, he has to do something by prioritising Yuichi over Miyuki or anyone else, thankfully she would understand.
Hiroto gave her some time to register everything she had heard and he kept her hand in his hold.
It took her time but she was able to calm down and ask him, “So, what is your real name?”
Hearing her question…Hiroto became blank for a moment before he hesitantly responded, “I….wasn’t given any.”
Miyuki frowned in shock before asking, “What do you mean you weren’t given one? Is it that you forgot?”
Hiroto shook his head before sighing, “No Miyuk I haven’t forgotten it rather the organization where I was trained, the people didn’t deem it necessary to give me a name.”
Miyuki’s frown remained and without her voicing it out, he knew what she wanted to ask so he went on, “As you can already guess, I ain’t a normal person. In my last life, I was sold by my parents at the age of three because of my sharp memory. I had the habit of memorizing anything I used to see and when an organization approached my parents, they didn’t think twice before selling me off for some grands. Well, that’s what I got to know when I grew up.”
His eyes travelled past her and looked at nothing but open space. He seemed to be reminiscing about those days and his lips narrated those memories,
“I was kept there until I turned seven. After turning seven years old every kid was tasked to do some missions for the organization to earn themselves a life. Like, for kidnapping, one could get food worth a week and the murder of some influential person allowed them to have a comfortable life for a month.”
Miyuki’s mouth was agape in shock. Seven years old?!
At the time when children get to understand various new and wonderful things about life and the world, Hiroto is forced to commit crimes.
“….was there not any way to escape?”
Hearing her question, Hiroto softly smiled in defeat before pointing at the back of his neck and saying, “They planted a chip on the back of every child’s neck and that chip was monitored every single minute of their day. If someone tried to escape or get caught by authorities, game over. The chip would detonate their heads.”
Miyuki gasped and covered her mouth. Tears welled up in her eyes again as she stared at Hiroto in horror.
Hiroto could understand how she must be feeling. No one could feel comfortable hearing such ridiculous things.
He has always walked on the edge of a knife in his past life. That’s why, after rebirth, Hiroto rejoices every single day. Now he no longer has to bear the responsibility of seeing people die at his hands and making their loved ones suffer because of him.
Now he had parents who gave him a name and cared for him. He has friends who look out for him without any selfish goal in mind. And finally…he has his loving girlfriend who gives him many reasons to be alive.
Life is good.
