Chapter 60: Final Episode – After Reaching the Happy End
Time passed, and two years went by.
I ended up living in Tokyo. After a lot of ups and downs, I graduated high school and finally got a job at the game company I had always dreamed of working for.
I had made my dream come true at last.
The three girls living with me were each walking their own paths too.
After graduating high school, Satori Jindaiji started working at the surveillance camera company run by the Jindaiji family.
She was apparently developing a new type of surveillance camera that was not only better for crime prevention but also extremely effective during kidnappings and confinement.
I was too scared to ask where that passion came from, but for her it really was the perfect job.
Mahiru Akiyoshi and Toa Watarase both went to the same university and were throwing themselves into club activities and part-time jobs as college students.
Their glamorous campus life made me a little jealous, but their part-time job was at the surveillance camera company, and they belonged to a very suspicious-sounding “human observation club,” so whether it was truly glamorous was up for debate.
Also, Mahiru was often late for university classes. She especially couldn’t wake up for first-period lectures.
All in all, the two years since leaving the island had been completely peaceful.
Sometimes I woke up handcuffed, or found someone had slipped into my bed, but it was still completely peaceful.
After all, there was no official kidnapping going on.
I wasn’t sure if that was because the three of them had grown up, or because I no longer had long vacations, but lately I hadn’t been confined at all.
The only thing that still bothered me was that whenever I talked to a female coworker, I would instantly get a flood of messages or phone calls.
There was a real chance I was not only being tracked by GPS but bugged as well.
Information society had advanced even further these days. It was terrifying; I couldn’t say anything careless.
“Haaaaaaaawn…”
Right now, in the middle of work, I stretched hugely at my desk in the office.
Then my eyes happened to fall on the ring finger of my left hand.
Three rings gleamed there like chains.
Each one had a different pattern and shape, but they all shared one thing—they were far too possessive.
They were so heavy that they wouldn’t come off easily. No, these were rings of oath that I probably could never take off for the rest of my life.
After gazing at their shine for a while, I ended my break and went back to work.
The current project was a novel game set on a certain island.
The island was closed off, powerful families imposed insane rules, and the protagonist and heroines desperately struggled within that world.
It felt strangely familiar, but at least no one in the game would be as possessive as these girls or get kidnapped.
I still didn’t know how the story would end, but I was sure it would be one that players could enjoy.
That was why I wanted to put everything I had into creating it.
No one would die. No one would be unhappy.
—A story with a happy ending.
The End.

Epilogue: What Happened to Black Tide Island Afterward
“Hey… we’re already adults now, right?”
“The coming-of-age ceremony was fun, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah, yeah. Which means we’re proper adults now.”
“Yep.”
“And proper adults don’t normally go pulling out handcuffs on a weekday afternoon and locking someone up, do they?”
“But today’s Golden Week?”
“That’s not the point…”
It happened one May.
I’d finally gotten a long stretch of days off for the first time since starting work, and I woke up feeling excited about the rare vacation.
Then I felt something weird around my wrists. Still half-asleep, I opened my eyes and there was Satori, straddling me.
More precisely, Satori was in the middle of snapping handcuffs onto my wrists while straddling me.
“Huh?”
And just like that, I ended up confined starting from the very first day of Golden Week. I had absolutely no idea what was going on.
What part of this was golden? It wasn’t bright at all. If anything, my future looked pitch black.
The room lights were off; only the light filtering through the curtains illuminated us.
Even so, the handcuffs never lost their presence.
They gleamed coldly and confidently in the dim room.
“It’s your first long break in a while too, right, Satori? Wanna go somewhere while we’ve got the chance?”
If things kept going like this it was going to be a full-week course, so I made the suggestion with both hands restrained. Satori shook her head without changing her expression.
“No need. Golden Week is full of people.”
“Sure, everywhere’s crowded, but—”
That wasn’t the issue. No matter how much she wanted to avoid going out, there was no need to physically prevent me from leaving.
No matter how you looked at it, Golden Week and confinement had nothing to do with each other. They were completely unrelated events.
Yet Satori, somehow convinced they were connected, looked down at me and said,
“Staying home is better, isn’t it?”
trying to brainwash me.
“That’s not the problem. I was planning to spend the whole day lounging at home anyway. Mahiru and Toa are away on a club trip, so I was just gonna eat cup noodles and stay in all day.”
“Yep.”
“Meaning the handcuffs don’t change anything whether they’re there or not. So could you take them off, please?”
I begged desperately.
But from past experience, Satori had never once willingly removed the handcuffs.
“No.”
“Why not!”
“If it doesn’t make a difference either way, then leaving them on is fine, right? It calms me down.”
“My heart’s pounding like crazy over here!”
“I’m feeling excited too, you know?”
Her cheeks flushed faintly with embarrassment as she slowly reached for the hem of my shirt.
Why did this feel so familiar?
Handcuffs, being straddled, shirt slowly taken off—this exact situation.
Even though I hadn’t experienced it in a while, my body remembered all on its own.
“It’s been a while since we’ve had any confinement.”
“There’s no such thing as ‘confinement withdrawal.’”
“It’s hard to lock you up once you start working. It’s okay, right?”
“I’m telling you it’s not!”
But no matter how much I refused, the sequence had already begun.
Unfortunately, it was starting.
A destruction of dignity for the first time in three years.
“Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine Akira is mine…”
“UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

“Phew… that was brutal.”
When lunchtime finally arrived, I was released from the dignity destruction at last.
Satori had gone to the living room to make lunch, so I had a brief moment of freedom.
While trying to gather the scattered pieces of my dignity, I opened my phone.
“…Uncle?”
Apparently Satori’s uncle had called while I was being thoroughly destroyed; I hadn’t noticed at all.
“There’s a message too. That’s rare.”
I opened the chat and found a single photo had been sent.
“Let’s see… who is this again? Same class… I can’t remember the name, but it’s definitely that guy.”
Four people were in the picture.
Around my old male classmate stood a long-haired girl with black hair, the blonde gal, and a petite girl—all three wearing wedding dresses.
In other words, this was a wedding photo—
“Those guys got married. Never thought a married couple would come out of that four-person group.”
I was genuinely shocked.
Thanks to the ridiculous “four-person group” rule Satori had made back then, fate had somehow looped around and tied someone’s red string. The world really is full of mysteries.
That said, one thing bothered me.
“Aren’t three people wearing wedding dresses?”
When I thought about it, that didn’t make sense.
Normally, a wedding is between one groom and one bride.
Anything else is impossible.
Yet here they were, openly holding a wedding with four people. The more I looked at the photo, the stranger it seemed.
“No way…”
An impossible hypothesis flashed through my mind, but I immediately shook my head. No way.
Then I saw Uncle’s next message and involuntarily rubbed my eyes.
――Come back to the island and you can marry all three.
“…………Huh?”
I couldn’t understand what he was saying.
Because that went against this country’s laws.
――Bigamy.
Marrying again while already having a spouse is punishable by up to two years in prison.
That’s why Satori and I aren’t married. We live together, but we’ve never submitted the marriage registration.
We even signed a contract to remain single for life, so sneaking off to marry someone else is impossible.
Either way, Uncle’s message was completely insane.
“Even on Black Tide Island, bigamy isn’t allowed, right?”
Yeah, definitely. It has to be.
It’s probably just a joke, a roundabout way of saying he misses me and wants me to visit.
I haven’t gone back once since moving to Tokyo, so this is probably his way of telling me to come home soon.
“Maybe it wouldn’t be bad to visit after a long time.”
I wouldn’t mind showing my face once in a while.
Golden Week ended up with me locked inside for various reasons, so maybe I’ll go home at the end of the year.
The question is whether I’ll be able to return to Tokyo afterward, but I’ll just have to trust Satori and the others.
I have no choice but to trust them.
“Akira, lunch is ready.”
“Got it. Coming now.”
While thinking about year-end plans in my head, I headed to the living room.
If the day ever comes that I return to the island…
I think I’ll bring the game I made with me.
