Chapter 19.1: Even Though We Reached a Happy End, I Got Confined by the Possessive Heroines
“Phew…”
I lay on the bed, gazing at the ceiling as I thought, relieved at last to be alone.
In the end, after reuniting with Satori via the island broadcast, we spent that night at my house.
The four of us: me, Mahiru, Toa, and Satori.
The next morning, once the typhoon had passed, the two of them went home.
Toa’s house had almost no damage aside from the leaks. Apparently, some trash had scattered in the yard, but since there was no tsunami or anything like that, it would be back to normal in just a day.
On the other hand, Satori’s house was a disaster, just as in the original story.
The large tree had fallen on her room, leaving the house half-destroyed. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but it was in no condition to live in for the time being.
As a result, the Black Tide Shrine was closed too.
By the way, the mysterious monitors in Satori’s room had apparently been smashed to pieces by the fallen tree. When I saw her yesterday, she was clutching her head in despair, saying, “The surveillance cameras are unusable!”
For some reason, Toa had been shocked too, so they probably weren’t being used for anything good.
That was the one moment in this typhoon that made me happy.
The only thing that bothered me a little was how composed Mahiru seemed, but with this, I could say my privacy was protected.
Even the company that made those surveillance cameras surely hadn’t anticipated this kind of use.
Anyway, that’s how we managed to reach a peaceful resolution, but my goal of escaping the island and heading to the city remained unfulfilled.
In fact, it felt infinitely more difficult to achieve now.
Because…
“…Hm?”
The doorbell at the entrance rang unexpectedly.
“…Who could it be, this early in the morning?”
Reflexively, images of two people popped into my mind. But there could be other possibilities too.
After all, I had used the island broadcast without permission, so complaints had come from the community center staff and some islanders.
On the flip side, I often got words of encouragement—or whatever they were—like “Make Satori happy, you hear?” or “A real man takes responsibility, right?”
The whole island felt like it wouldn’t let me go, which was complicated.
Ding-dong.
The chime rang again, and I got up from the bed, heading to the entrance with a heavy heart.
“Big brother, should I get it?”
“No, I’ll go.”
Mahiru, who had fixed her bedhead, poked her face out from the bathroom with wide eyes.
My sister and I exchanged glances for a moment.
Then, tentatively, I opened the door, and…
“Senpai, you’re so slow~”
There stood Toa, beaming with a full smile. She wore her usual uniform, but she was heavily equipped: a carry-on suitcase in her right hand, a pillow in her left, and a school bag slung over her shoulder.
Even for an overseas trip, she wouldn’t need this much luggage.
What on earth was going on? As I tilted my head,
“Se~npa~i.”
Toa said it with a smile that was both calculated and innocent.
“I’ve come!”
Oh. So she had come.
But before that, there was something I needed to confirm.
“You came yesterday too, right?”
“Yes!”
“And the day before that too, right?”
“Yes!”
Well, that was fine.
There was no issue with that in itself, but still…
“What’s with all that luggage?”
“It’s a week’s worth!”
The problem was this luggage.
She had been coming every day, so why did she need to bring a week’s worth?
I couldn’t understand it at all.
“Why a whole week’s worth?”
“Because that’s obvious~ From now on, I’ll be staying at Senpai’s house.”
As she said it, Toa barged right into the house.
For a moment, I thought Mahiru had given permission and glanced back, but Mahiru shook her head vigorously.
So there was no permission for an overnight stay…
“I didn’t permit it, right?”
“But~ because of the leaks, I can’t go home~”
Toa whined in a sweet voice. It just sounded like an excuse to me.
“Didn’t you say it would be fixed in a day?”
“The leaks can’t be dealt with until the repair people come~ So right now, Akari-chan is using my room. There~fore, Senpai!”
Toa stepped closer and whispered it with a mischievous smile.
“Can I sleep in Senpai’s bed?”
A moment of silence. Her statement was so bold that my thinking stopped, but calmly considered, there was no way I could nod.
“I refu—”
“—Of course not!”
Mahiru’s sharp voice cut off my words like a stab. She widened her eyes and glared at Toa with a look of utter disbelief, then
“Big brother’s bed belongs to his little sister!”
She declared it boldly.
“It’s not, though.”
It was so wrong that I denied it without thinking.
No, no.
In times like this, I should just listen.
Otherwise, scary sparks would fly my way. I had learned that.
“But, but~ it’s not fair for Mahiru-chan to hog it all~”
“That’s what siblings are. Siblings are the ones who vowed to sleep in the same bed in sickness and in health!”
“It’s not, though.”
Siblings weren’t in such an impure relationship.
But Mahiru’s wild claims didn’t stop.
“Siblings are one body and soul to begin with! It’s only natural to be together when sleeping, when bathing, even when going to the toilet!”
“It’s not, though.”
“Anyway! I won’t forgive anyone who approaches the sacred domain of siblings, no matter how many there are!”
Mahiru declared it in a clear tone.
“My bed is my own sacred domain, though.”
