Chapter 10: How to Remove the Handcuffs
The third day of my confinement life had ended, and I had safely made it to the fourth day.
To call it safe seemed a bit too much, given how much my dignity had been shattered, but since I had barely avoided crossing that final line, overall it was probably okay.
However, there was no sign of me being released anytime soon.
At this point, even they must be getting tired of sticking around constantly, right?
With that in mind, I tried offering some words of appreciation as a test, but all three of them claimed they had been sleeping unusually well ever since this lifestyle began, their skin was glowing, and if anything, they had excess energy.
—Excess energy.
That would normally be a good thing, but unfortunately, as the one being confined, I could not have been more disappointed.
“Today is that day, huh…”
Early in the morning, I looked away from Mahiru, who had slipped into the bed and was sleeping soundly with gentle breaths, and my gaze drifted to the calendar pinned on the wall.
August 7th.
This date was deeply etched into my memory. It was the day when a major event from the original story unfolded—one I could never forget. Specifically, it was the day the total annihilation ending occurred.
In the original story, Black Tide, Great Serpent, Island of Prayers, toward the end of the tale, after you finished conquering the heroines (Satori and Mahiru), you were presented with three choices.
1. Go to the hot springs
2. Go swimming in the sea
3. Stay holed up at home
These were the three options. They seemed harmless enough at first glance, but later on, this choice led to tragedy.
As a typhoon approached the island, choosing 1 meant getting caught in a landslide and total annihilation, while choosing 2 meant getting swept out to sea and total annihilation—terribly cruel fates.
In other words, the only correct answer was 3, but there was no way anyone without prior knowledge would pick the most boring option of staying home.
Even I, on my first playthrough, had unhesitatingly chosen 2 because I thought I could see the heroines in swimsuits at the beach.
As a result, I had met that merciless total annihilation ending.
Just when I thought I had reached the ending, suddenly the heroines’ screams and their bloodied figures appeared, making the despair all the more intense.
It was a bitter memory that once again taught me this game was a depressing one.
And the reason such an unpleasant memory resurfaced was simple: the day the typhoon hit the island was today.
“Is this cabin going to be okay?”
In the original story, staying holed up at home was the only right answer. But now, I was confined in this cabin.
It was the same in terms of holing up, but I could not imagine this drafty wooden cabin withstanding the strong winds.
In other words, if things stayed like this, we might end up with a bad ending.
There was also one other concern. A concern I absolutely could not ignore.
“…This is bad.”
Fortunately, it was still quiet outside. It did not seem to be raining yet, and pleasant light streamed in through the window.
However, that did not mean I could let my guard down. If my knowledge of the original story was correct, the typhoon would approach this island in the afternoon today.
I had to somehow escape from this cabin before then.
I resolved myself and began devising an escape plan when, at that moment, the cabin door rattled open.
“Senpai, I heard about it~ You wet the bed yesterday, huh?”
The one who appeared was Toa Watarase. She entered in her school uniform, grinning mischievously, and for some reason, she held a diaper in her hand, instantly bringing back yesterday’s trauma.
“I didn’t.”
I denied it immediately, but Toa Watarase’s eyes still sparkled. If anything, she glanced pointedly at my lower body and said,
“But but, this morning when I passed Satori, she was muttering ‘Akira, bedwetting’~”
“Satori did⁉︎”
“A high schooler wetting the bed is really pathetic, you know. You really can’t manage without me, can you, Senpai?”
“I’m telling you, I didn’t. It’s a misunderstanding.”
When I kept denying it persistently, she finally seemed to realize her mistake.
“Oh, come on. No bedwetting after all… What a shame.”
Toa Watarase openly slumped her shoulders.
It was crazy that she was disappointed I had not wet myself.
I seemed to remember her being a more sensible underclassman before, so how did she end up like this?
This was probably all the fault of those three girls. I really could not forgive them.
“But but, if you wet yourself from now on, it’ll all work out in the end, right?”
“—Huh?”
“It’s just a matter of sooner or later.”
Toa Watarase’s eyes took on a sadistic glint as she began tracing her finger along my thigh. Slowly, slowly she traced it.
The atmosphere felt like she could make me change into a diaper right now.
So, to shatter that atmosphere, I let out a big retort.
“Why do you even have a diaper?”
“There was a whole bag of them placed in front of the cabin.”
“Who the hell left diapers outside?”
It had to be Mahiru, no question, but right now she was using my stomach as a pillow and sleeping soundly. Even if I wanted to grill her, I could not.
Well, whatever. Right now, the priority was dealing with the underclassman in front of me.
As her finger crawled along my thigh, sending electric shocks through me each time, I desperately racked my brain.
A way to escape this cabin, avoid the diaper danger, and still dodge the bad ending. The answer had to be somewhere in the original story.
“Toa!”
I grabbed her hand as it touched my thigh and locked eyes with her, my gaze serious.
Toa Watarase’s playful eyes widened in surprise for a moment.
Then, after we stared at each other in silence for a while, I made a certain proposal.
“How about you and I—do a rehearsal?”
“…A rehearsal?”
“I told you yesterday, right? I won’t stop you from leaving the island. So, let’s do that rehearsal. You and I, the two of us, escape from this cabin.”
It felt just like an elopement. That was exactly the true ending from the original story, one of the correct paths the protagonist chose.
So this time, I decided to borrow that answer.
“………………”
Toa Watarase’s eyes widened for an instant. But soon she grinned and said,
“Got it. You and I will live together forever.”
She said it while practically licking her lips.
“This is just a rehearsal, okay?”
“I get it. It means we’ll be together forever, right?”
“No, that’s not—”
“Even if the whole world is against us, we’ll elope together, right?”
“That’s totally not—”
“Senpai, when it’s time to die, we do it together, okay?”
Was she really going to be okay?
I was a little worried, but surprisingly, Toa Watarase was quick on the uptake. I wanted to believe she would be fine. Or rather, I had no choice but to believe it.
“Then, I’ll go ahead and free you now.”
Toa Watarase pulled a small pin from her pocket and skillfully fiddled with the handcuffs. They clicked and clacked, and then the handcuffs came off right away.
“Huh? It opens with just a pin like that?”
I could not close my gaping mouth at how easily the handcuffs had come off.
“Handcuffs are surprisingly easy to open, you know.”
“No way. You should have taught me sooner.”
“There’s no way I’d teach you that. Besides, I only learned how to do it myself last night.”
That was awfully timely.
“More importantly, why did you even learn how?”
“I practiced thinking about the future.”
“Thinking about the future?”
That was weird. The words did not connect at all. And yet, why did I have such a bad feeling about it?
“…Ahem.”
For now, I decided to pretend I had not heard that.
